Fantastic restaurant in the heart of Modbury. The food was absolutely delicious. My wife was allergic to one element of her dish and the chef swapped it out without any fuss. We shared a sticky toffee pudding (one of the best I've ever had) and the chef plated it separately for us to make it easier to eat. Couldn't fault the cooking or the staff. Refreshing to see the bill doesn't come with a service charge already added, we tipped anyone because everything was so good! We will be going back.
Fabulous hotel. My room was immaculate. Breakfast was delicious. The owners are a very friendly and welcoming couple. Particularly enjoyed them joining in with our leg pulling cholesterol free egg gag haha. Thank you for a great stay during what was a very sombre trip.
Relaxed, comfortable stay over 5 nights, with great tasty food both at breakfast and dinner, with meat from local suppliers.
Evening meal a little on the expensive side: We had the pork chop and the fish of the day which was plaice. Both meals were delicious and perfectly cooked.
Friendly, helpful, very attentive staff.

Parking is chargeable from 6pm - 8am in car parks at rear of hotel. However, after 6pm you may be able to get a space in the main road. Council enforcement here does not come into effect until after 9am and you're allowed 30 mins. So if you're clever you don't need to pay for parking and have a relaxed breakfast!

Been to this pub every year for the past 6 years. The last 4 years since the new owner took control.. Gone to another level!
Some say the food is expensive... You pay for quality - it's quality!
Go across the road and pay £2 less for a microwave meal... Say no more.
Rooms are very clean.... Bathroom and robes a credit to their standards.
Staff were very accommodating and couldn't do enough for us and make us feel welcome. Great food, dinner was exceptional and breakfast very good with some choices. Bathroom was excellent, clean and modern with a powerful shower (one of the best we've had!) and excellent complimentary toiletries.

Been here a few times now and I really enjoy the whole experience. The new Landlords have really nailed this place!
I thought I would leave a review because I have stayed here for 3 weekends now. Each time I have been made such a fuss of and made to feel so welcome. I am very surprised about the negative reviews because it doesn't correspond to my experience there. I also speak about my whole party which was at least 4 people each time. The hospitality is absolutely top draw.
First of all the food is absolutely spectacular. Such a lovely menu and you always walk away very satisfied. The Roast Dinner is a highlight on a Sunday. I really enjoy the salad bar. Chips are really nice! And the Coffee is superb! I also have to say that relaxing by the fire after a good feed is a lovely feeling.
5 star accommodation, so cosy in the rooms and romantic but also great for families. It is just such a lovely and cosy pub. Roaring fire with lovely seats. Great atmosphere. A truly incredible selection of beverages. Really tasty and wholesome food. Choice of two bars. Love the old school vibe of this place. The St Austell beers are a real highlight. There is a Pool table and a Dartboard upstairs which is such a laugh and also a rare past-time these days!
I travel from London regularly because I just love to get out of the big smoke and spend time in nature and by the sea. I used to stay at the Exeter Inn but The White Hart Hotel has become my new favourite for myself, friends and family. Because we can use it as a base at the hotel and enjoy lovely meals when we are there and little Modbury, which is so quaint, and very English!
I hope this review has been helpful, in depth and informative. I only really give out reviews for places that truly deserve it. I am returning in a few weeks with another big group of us! That's how much I love it!
So look no further than this lovely place for a great weekend or for food!

Clean and tidy area's great selection of drinks most certainly worth a visit
Surprisingly good pub food. Very tasty burgers made from local ingredients. Kids meals really good value and good quality. Chips were skinny fries which were fine, real fries would have resulted in 5 stars.

As we were visiting the area anyway, we knew that we had to return to the White Hart Hotel, this time we both had the Sunday roast; the chef hasn't lost his art, wow, everything tasted devine. The biggest shame is that we live so far from the White Hart Hotel.

The chef really loves creating delicious food.
I'm sure you can tell from the first statement how good the food is.
I had ribeye steak, triple cooked chips, asperagus with a very delicious gravy, gravy doesn't seem to as impressive as how it tastes. I asked the chef about the gravy, it takes around 72 hours to make, boiling down the bones, adding vegetables etc etc. I seem to have focused on the gravy, not that it was needed, as the steak was firm and tender, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. Triple cooked chips, what can I say, they are triple cooked.
My wife had a beef burger with pulled pork, with fries. I was allowed a little bit of the pulled pork - amazing. My wife said that it was all lovely.
For dessert I had sticky toffee pudding - Mmm.
I can't remember what my wife had, but I remember her saying it to was delicious.
The full English breakfast with amazing.
My wife had granola and fruit, followed by scrambled eggs on toast, it was all gone in moments it seemed, must have been good lol.
If we were ever back in the area, we would make sure to go back.
Father's Day lunch for 7. Good choice of farm, sea or earth dishes. The roast was amazing, also ate the fish of the day and vegetarian risotto. Everyone gave it 10/10. Two very lovely ladies looked after us extremely well.

We visited the White Hart Inn while camping nearby, and sat at a table in the bar area as it’s dog friendly.
The menu had recently been updated and we chose steak and chips and chicken with potato dauphinoise which were delicious.
We then had a nice crumble with ice cream and sticky toffee pudding which came a little dry but was saved by the ice cream.
Would definitely recommend!
Walked down the hill and ate here twice. Had the fish the chips, spectacular! And the seconds had the scallops, by far the best scallops I’ve had. They had done magic with asparagus, did not know it could taste so amazing!
The White Heart although it has (for now) restricted opening times has no restrictions on serving high-quality food and drinks, much of which is locally sourced by the owner/chef and his team, including the rare, low-fat Salcombe Meat Co Dexter beef steaks.
The result is fantastic food at a fair price and the best Risotto (with pea & wild garlic puree, bruleed goats cheese, aged parmesan, walnuts), I have ever had, and I am not just saying this, it was, the "veggie" option, but the addition of the goat's cheese in the middle was an amazing touch, and worked well, after a starter of field mushrooms.
The restaurant has a nice clean, well laid out modern yet rural feel to it, with a jovial front of the house.
Parking is plentiful in the public car park behind the White Heart - I will be going back, and I will be making this as soon as possible!! File under amazing....
