The Golden Anchor Fish Bar serve up the most mouthwatering and delicious Fish and Chips. It is a local gem that is frequently buzzing with customers queuing up to get a takeaway.
The atmosphere is good and the staff are warm and inviting. The only downside is that you tend to wait a while for the food (even if you call to order in advance), but I can overlook this seeing as the food is just so scrumptious! If you fancy eating in, there are a couple of tables and chairs inside for you to perch on.
The walls of The Golden Anchor are covered in a variety of awards and certificates, and that's because they truly deliver when it comes to rustling up good Fish and Chips. If you're in the area, this place is a MUST.
I Previously ony left a 5 star review... What i didn't mention was the fresh lovely food . Family run business that must be supported in a world full of corporate eateries. This place is a source of proper soul food. Go on, put a smile on your face and enjoy.
Had a craving for fish and chips, I wasn't disappointed. Still crispy by the time I got home. I got the normal sized cod which was huge (see photo). Friendly staff. Highly recommended.
This is hands down the best fish and chips I ever tried! The fish is super fresh and the service is amazing. Yesterday, a guy came out from the shop saying to himself, "I love this place" !

Great Gluten free fish and chips served on Wednesday. I’m not gluten intolerant but my wife is. Nevertheless I also ordered gluten free and I can honestly say that I could not tell that it wasn’t the “normal” serving. Extremely tasty and crispy batter. Will be back.!
Amazing, fresh, beautiful and quality food. Service lovely and friendly. I drove out of my way and passed 3 other chip shops and so worth it. Feeding a group so had cod, sausage in batter, stake pie and cod bites, all was stunning. Thank you lou and team.

One of the very best fish and chips you will ever have. Cooked to perfection, thin and crispy batter with no oil residue. The haddock was delicious and fresh.
A 70 years old family business, the owner is very passionate, informative and kind. We're so glad we found this place. He gave us a free piece of hake, just to get our feedback and promote more types of sustainable fish, which is positive for the environment.

Nice people but unfortunately the cod I had was wet and slimy and didn't taste like fish , the chips were very soggy too .
And if you like cod and chips like I do , then you can only but try for yourself . I will give it one more try and if I ain't satisfied the next time I will not be using it again , and one more thing is it is quite expensive.
I have always loved the the food here and service and on top of that I love location it’s so calm n u love eating or dinning here.
We got takeaway (collection) fish and chips from the Golden Anchor for the first time last night. Large cod and regular chips. Generously portioned (ie massive) fish (big enough for my wife and I to share) and enough chips for us to share, too. Everything was cooked beautifully and well packed. The service was also very friendly.
We're both highly impressed and will be back soon.
Absolutely fantastic fish & chips. Lou and his lovely wife do an excellent job and I always enjoy visiting their shop.
The fish is delicious, different sizes on offer, batter is crispy not greasy and he serves up generous portions of chips. The mushy peas are the best I've had, minty and flavoursome.
I'm lucky to have this shop in my neighborhood.
