Great cafe, food and great staff - been coming for years
We always stop here when passing as a warm welcome is guaranteed. We have never, and I mean never had a meal that was not up to par. Good, honest and well cooked food make the 1618 one of our favourite eating venues in the North East. Janet and Eddie Proud (late 60’s)
Brilliant Sunday lunch ! Great food and good service !

great new lights & sounds food first class bev and john delightfull
Love this cafe. They are dog and muddy boots friendly which makes it a great stop after a day of walking or kayaking. It is beautifully decorated and well looked after, the staff are always friendly and service is quick. They do a good range of cakes, food and drinks, including alcoholic options.
The only place for miles where we were able to find a full english breakfast, and we are so glad we did! The food delicious!!! They source their sausages and bacon locally and the cafe was run by lovely people. the decor is cute with witty quotes along the walls and ceiling. Price was a bit above average but certainly worth it.
Always a great stop when traveling through the area. Jonathan and Bev are the perfect hosts with quality of food and service at the top of their priorities. Parking your bike right outside you can enjoy a meal or just a cuppa inside or out if the weather is good. Popular with bikers, walkers, motorists and locals.
If, like me, you were puzzled by the historical significance of 1618, relax. It refers to the street numbers that the premises occupy.
Lovely cafe we stop here a lot on motorcycle days out. Good coffee and friendly owners. The food menu looks great too but we usually only have coffee and move on.
I've been coming here for years, either as a stopping point during a motorcycle route or just as an excuse to eat lovely food and talk to even lovelier people.
Another reviewer called the service chaotic, sorry my friend, this is a Dales-pace and you'd be hard pressed to find more commodious people.
Rain or shine, a regular visitor or a weary traveller after a long journey, a warm welcome is always served up.
Good place to stop and have a coffee whilst out in the Durham dales. Jon & Bev are 'biker friendly', Jon has his own bike, which is often parked ouside
Very friendly welcoming staff fab food on offer. Great place to sit outside & watch the world go by.
Stopped for lunch whist cycling through. Sat outside on the street, the food was very good. Staff were very friendly too.
We took a bike ride to Middleton-in-Teesdale and stopped for a cup there. Friendly and small cafe, with nice teas and coffees.
Coffee was good but didn't have any food. Excellent, friendly service.
Great little spot. Really friendly owners. Good grub and a local beer.
Great place to stop and chill. Good food and coffee at a reasonable price.
Lovely tasty fresh food. Coffee always great too.
