Proper pub. Unpretentious, welcoming, hospitable. Good selection of beers and wines, with an excellent "Wine of the Month" selection. Good menu. Superb old open fireplace. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Well worth a visit.

We stopped here for lunch and refreshments after the first leg of our 12 mile walk in the surrounding countryside. It was friendly and welcoming especially to dog lovers (although we don't have one ourselves) and the food was of very good quality. My husband had the BLT in ciabatta and I had the hummus, halloumi and roasted vegetables, also in ciabatta, both served with the most delicious hand cut chips. They were delicious! It has a quaint charm both inside and out and was a lovely spot to sit and enjoy lunch before carrying on our walk. It looked well frequented by both walkers and locals. A lovely country pub!

Excellent stay at the Rose and Crown. Food was delicious. Great atmosphere in pub where we had an amazing evening. Staff were so friendly and attentive, excellent service. The rooms are to a high standard and full of character for a pub thats 400 years old. Great location for exploring the local area. All found great experience, thank you.

Lovely pub, in an equally lovely village. Outside seating. Dog friendly. We ate a wrap which was fine simple ingredients which could be improved by better quality. Lovely pint of Harvey's served.

Stayed in Mayfield while visiting UK from Canada. Lovely place, but really light on eating spots. Popped into the Rose & Crown for an afternoon pint and enquired about a later dinner only to discover Mondays are burger nights. With no other choice, we went back for a burger dinner. So glad we were lucky enough to sample their burgers; something I normally wouldn't have ordered just then. Had a "chili cheese" burger, and just had to share how good it was. IT WAS FANTASTIC. It was undoubtedly one of the best hamburgers I've ever had (and sadly, I've had far too many!) Freshly prepared, thick, juicy, cooked properly (i.e. not grilled to hard leather consistency.) Simply delicious. Vicki poured our pints and served the food, she was awesome. Have made a note for my next UK trip to include being in the area on a Monday, it was THAT good.

Super friendly staff and owners couldn't do enough for us. Spectacular views. Extremely quiet neighbourhood Highly recommend for a getaway.

Very friendly pub. Good food, the staff is always nice and efficient. There is a lovely atmosphere and it's a proper village pub. Dogs are welcome if you are not in the restaurant room. Nice terrace if the weather is good.

Was there on my own for Sunday lunch. Had the chicken roast. Delicious selection of vegetables, chicken, and gravy. Could have been warmer, though. I'm not keen on a hot meal being served on cool plates. Had a cold drink and then a latte. Staff and service excellent. Very clean, olde worlde pub.
