Beautiful setting and the whole place has been done up perfectly. Great array of drinks. Fairly limited menu unless you're having steak, but the meals were all decent and well presented. The serving staff are all a bit young and quiet but we had no issue being served in a timely manner. Would still recommend booking as the place filled up fast.

What a loverly place to eat. Location is good parking is a short walk away at the train station. Service was fast and on the ball Only bad thing I can say is they didn't bring our drinks up untill I asked about them but that's not the end of the world Steak was really nice cooked perfectly to how I wanted it am a bit fussy with steaks and don't like them over cooked anything more than rare . My partner had the trio of burgers she couldn't finish them so I polished them off and they where all fantastic. Overall a very nice dinneing experience with friendly helpfully staff

Good location, great decor. Had nachos for starters which were very good. Fillet steak was delicious, chips were good and the onion rings were fantastic. Portions looked small but in the end we couldn't finish our portions. Minor criticisms are that it does get very loud when it gets busy downstairs, it did hot (no air con and no windows that open) and the staff seemed overworked (service was good, but they just had too much to do). Also it's a shame we were seated a our table. Would have liked the option to have a view of the river and bridge when we booked. Will definitely return. ————————————————————— Returned for our works Xmas do early December, booked months in advance. The place looked fantastic, starters were good, and the steak and turkey dinners were fantastic. However, our desserts took forever to be served. Our table was booked for 7pm, and we were one of the first groups to arrive that night. We finished our mains about 8:30, and our desserts weren’t served until about 9:40. Most groups had finished and left, and that left our party with very limited time to go to other bars. Staff were apologetic, but to wait over an hour, with no offer of a discount or free drinks is poor. ————————————————————— As a bar, I really don’t get it. There’s a basement bar, but for me it doesn’t really work. It was lacking in atmosphere, and there weren’t many people there. To confuse things there’s a table with a PlayStation, an old tv and some old games, yet it’s trying to be a cocktail bar. Need to get the place promoted better with lots of offers or a USP.

Great food, great staff, great decor. Relaxed dining and surprisingly good vegetarian options too. A real asset to Matlock and worth making the journey from further a field for. Recommend wholeheartedly. They were family friendly, but would equally love to return on a date night.

We have driven passed this place a few times on the way home so finally jumped on the train from Belper to experience Herd. Four of us and arrived not knowing whether to expect a pub or a restaurant, imagine a mix of the two. Tastefully decorated, keeping in many of the beautiful aspects of the old bank. We were shown to a table upstairs. Staff here were attentive and helpful, showing a sense of humour as well, which is lovely to see. Bread board between 4 of us to start, cocktails all around due to the 2 for £10. My wife had the Piri Piri Chicken and I had he minted lamb skewers. Our company had lamb skewers and the vegetable tagine. Everyone commented on how good the food and service was, really well done to the girl who served us (not sure of her name). We will be back!

Good quality steakhouse. The service was average and could do with improving to get the final star. Atmosphere was good if not a little hot upstairs. Able to cater for medium sized groups. Can't fault the food for the price.

The food was lovely but the service was very poor. Plenty of staff working there but it would take a very long time for drinks to arrive and for the table to be cleared. The music was also far too loud (rather than being background music) so we had to ask for it to be turned down so that we could hear one another. Nevertheless we would go back knowing the quality of food was spot on.

Nice view from the first floor. Good service. Pita with grilled halloumi was delicious and the sauces were not banal. Lots of desserts and drinks. Recommend

Such an amazing experience. The food was beyond incredible and the staff were fab. This place was recommended by a local as we there visiting for a few days and weren't disappointed. Also loved the recycling of glass spirit bottles as the water for the table. Top idea!
