Absolutely wonderful experience at WTS on Friday. The tasting menu is perfectly created, the flavours work brilliantly together and front of house staff couldn’t have been better. They went out of their way to make you comfortable and make it so enjoyable. Overall, faultless experience and would 100% recommend a visit.
We had an excellent meal here. The food was wonderful - excellent range of flavours that were really well balanced throughout each course. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and has a lovely atmosphere. The chef clearly knows how to cook exceptionally well. If I had one suggestion for an improvement it would be the name. It suggests something serving lots of grilled or flame cooked food whereas this is high-quality fine dining with little evidence of 'smoke'. It really doesn't do justice to the great experience you get at the restaurant.

All food served beautifully in pottery made by the head chef, Jon. We had the opportunity to thank Jon at the end of the evening too. Good food, excellent service, amazing attention to detail. This was a dining experience, not just a meal.

I simply can’t fault anything about ‘Where There’s Smoke’. I treated my parents to a meal for their 50th wedding anniversary, and had a lovely experience all-round.
There’s so much care and attention-to-detail, from the window display, the pottery, the art on the walls, the service, the relaxed atmosphere… it all adds up to a wonderful experience.
Nothing’s ever too much trouble, from booking, through to asking questions about each plate, John’s passion and knowledge of the food and ingredients really shines through.
The food is obviously what we’re there for and everything is just perfection, and clearly a labour of love. And that’s what makes this for me. There’s so much to enjoy about the local ingredients, the style of each plate, the effort that’s gone into every little bit is clear. A testament to so much experience and hard work of everyone there.
I shall definitely be visiting again (hopefully with my brother!).

OMG What an absolutely wonderful experience. The food was outstanding and catered for my lactose intolerance. Loved the atmosphere , the decoration was beautiful . The staff were so attentative . Cannot fault anything and will definitely return . Thank you.
Excellent in all areas. Each course was fantastic, the service John and the team provide made us all feel welcome from the moment we stepped inside. It is clear that every detail within the restaurant has been carefully thought out, from the colour scheme to the song playlist. Overall Where There's Smoke is was very enjoyable place to dine and well worth a trip out to Masham to experience it.
We recently moved to North Yorkshire and have been searching for a restaurant that goes beyond a good pub menu and is near enough to home for us to claim it as local. Where There’s Smoke wins on both counts, and at an exceptionally competitive price. The menu we enjoyed was thoughtfully and skilfully put together and offered some exceptional taste combinations. The use of smoke was subtle and complemented well the different courses. For example, injudicious smoking could have ruined some lovely monkfish cheeks, while the gorgeous courgette soup was stunningly supported by a cleverly-made smoked oil drizzle. The wine recommendations worked really well and we could not have been made more welcome by everyone at the restaurant. All in all, we had a wonderful evening and, now that we have found it, intend revisiting as often as we can.
Finally made it to Where There's Smoke after having to cancel a previous booking due to catching COVID two days before.
The experience was excellent all round. Food was magnificent - highest quality, great imagination and perfect portion sizing too (just a smidge below "too much" 🙂). Service couldn't be faulted - always attentive, but never overwhelming - and considering all this, I'd say the price was very good value as well.
Will definitely be back.
