When I have driven over 200 miles in a day there is nothing better than to be greeted by a friendly and welcoming face. My stay here has been brilliant from start to finish. The room was spotlessly clean and had a large fan in it which was very welcome. The food was well presented and very tasty and the restaurant staff we very friendly and helpful. The cost of the food was fair. Breakfast was great. Again happy and friendly staff were available to help. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will be coming back.

We have just come back from a 2 day stay , the room was airy lovely and clean, a massive comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly and the customer service was faultless. As for the food ,again was faultless, good sized portions for dinner and pudding menu. reasonable prices too. The breakfast would go down as the best presented I have ever come across, warm pastries, fresh fruit , the list goes on .... the cooked breakfast was fantastic. The building was quirky and beautiful. Overall they deserve a great review

Although this is a Greene King chain hotel it is by far and away a better experience than you would usually expect from a chain. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is excellent and the beers and wines are well kept. I was here on business and for the second time and will stay here again if my work brings me here in the future. Thoroughly recommended

Very lucky to have this as my local. Always met with great staff who are happy to chat and serve you a lovely pint when needed, They also provide a great menu to choose from for when you get hungry including starters, pub classics, sharers meals and vegan options giving everyone that visits a choice for food. I've yet to use a room here but only hear good things from the people who are either staying for work or just visiting for a weekend break away. Everything is kept clean and in place and the decor makes for a nice atmosphere. Dogs never miss out either as they have biscuits at the bar and several dog bowls located around the bar and outside. The garden is a great addition as it's very spacious making it perfect for family meals or drinks with friends in the sun. Come winter time you're met with a lovely lit fire in the pub area keeping you nice and warm. The seating options are beyond comfortable making it a great place to wind down and enjoy a pint or two. So if it's just a drink you want or a meal out or both, make sure to give the chequers a visit!

Lovely spot. Clean rooms. Great food. Everyone has been kind and accommodating! We arrived at the hotel 3 hours before our check in time and they were able to get us in a room right away.

Lovely hotel/pub in a quiet village. Large bed, in a good, sized, clean room. With everything you need, hair dryer, fan, iron, ironing board, tea and coffee making facilities, ensuite bathroom, and phone for the front desk, too. We could smell the food so we decided to eat in, I had the sirloin steak (£17) it came with a grilled tomato, a couple of onion rings and chips, I added a side of salad and made my steak surf and turf by adding grilled prawns, delicious and very filling. My husband had the award winning steak and ale pie that came with chips and vegetables and amazing gravy, very filling, he said. We decided we had to have a pudding, so shared, the apple and blackberry crumble, very good. We had draft cider and shandy to drink. This is definitely a hidden gem which I hope to return to.

Lovely atmosphere. Lovely lad named Billy behind the bar was very chatty and a pleasure to be around. The sun was out so the garden was spectacular and the Mac and cheese was just amazing.

My advice is to say use this pub.Breaking my rule of only reviewing a place after the third visit. We had breakfast here yesterday. Which was both large and fair priced. Also delicious. We had lunch today which was the same good value..we have booked rooms to stay later in the year. And will update this post then.

Room was really nice and modern considering age of hotel/Inn. Had room overlooking church graveyard. came complete with owl hooting through the night. Couldn't work out if real mist or village teenagers smoking. Breakfast was really nice. Lots of choices.

Just returned from an overnight stay with breakfast. Lovely historic building in a quiet downland village. Short drive away from Uckfield if anything is needed. We stayed in room 1. The room had all we needed, was comfortable and quiet. We had a good sleep. The staff were fantastic. The breakfast was delicious, a full English and the eggs Benedict. Couldn't fault it. Would love to stay longer next time
