This place is my current new favourite restaurant in Manchester. What an intimate and unique dining experience. The menu is small plates ideal for sharing and trying a little it of everything. Each dish is incredibly balanced and finely tuned excellence! I was super impressed. We also got to sit at the chefs table which was a great touch and the theatre really added to the experience. We really appreciated the explanation to each dish, the presentation and the delicious taste! My favourite dish was the raw scallop with unripened strawberries in a Tom yum broth 👌🏻 What a special meal. I’d highly recommend this place and I can’t wait to go back! 11/10, what a way to cement yourself in the Manchester restaurant scene. Try this place now!
Brilliant cooking, and wonderfully personal, heartwarming service. I was lucky to get a seat at the counter, which allowed me to enjoy the suggestions and explanations from Julian, the executive chef. A brief glance at the short menu (see photo) made it clear that I’m not going to leave this place without trying more than just a couple of dishes. Everything – from cocktail (Crab Apple Collins), to two appetizers (first, Isle of wight tomatoes with melon, fennel, and whipped ricotta, and, then, BBQ squid on black pudding – what a brilliant idea! – see photo), to main course (Glazed lamb rump with anchovy sauce – another unexpected combination) – was brilliantly conceived and flawlessly executed. And don’t skip on the bread because it’s not your average loaf – the sourdough from the next-door neighbor Holy Grain Sourdough Bakery with whey butter was a masterpiece on its own (see photo). The wine list was quite eclectic, more into natural wines, and while I’m not a huge fan of most of what is covered by this loose definition, the servers found a bottle that I thoroughly enjoyed (see photo). Even the desert which I usually skip, was a discovery (Green tea pannacotta). Wow… This small place is a destination.
Had a brilliant night here last night. The staff were very good and knowledgeable. The food was spectacular and the wines were perfectly matched to the food. That potato has to be the best potato I've ever had. Can't wait to return.
I’m currently back in NY at a classic establishment having a the American Reuben I grew up with. delis featured quite prominently in my memories and this was a well loved staple.
However I am realising that my food memory has been evolved by this Another Hand Reuben. It was so familiar but SO much more refined. Home made coleslaw that had so much going on. Pickles grandmother would love. Perfectly toasted bread.
You really elevated a thing I didn’t think could be or should be elevated. I feel as if I’ve outgrown the type of Reuben I just ate here in NY (I’m afraid the waitress thinks I’m reviewing her restaurant but I’m not!)
I would consider coming up from london on a day trip for this beauty. The rest of the menu looked superb—I just can’t get past a Reuben when it’s on a menu.
Excellence chaps
It's a great restaurant with a lot of potential, but here and there - in our opinion - it's not quite there yet. The dishes themselves are beautifully presented and contain great flavour combinations, although sometimes a clear line is missing. Some dishes are intensely spiced, others very balanced. Some dishes lacked the 'wow' factor you would expect from such an ambitious restaurant. On the other hand we were more than pleasantly surprised by the 'unremarkable' dishes, such as the mussels and potatoes. The mussel broth was a dream!
The service was very friendly, enthusiastic and dedicated. We were able to sit outside and were even allowed to bring our dog. The outside area was nice, although a bit noisy because of the music from the neighbouring shops.
One of the best meals I've ever had in Manchester. Will 100% be heading back. My only slight criticism is that the pork chop wasn't as mind-blowing as the other dishes.
Brilliant time at AH, would highly recommend sitting on the pass if you’re able to. Really lovely chefs who were attentive and talked us through each dish. Delicious stuff! You must order the hassle-back potato.
Dishes are delicious and extremely beautiful, but the proportions are quite small. I especially recommend halibut and artichoke. The two are the dishes I like the most today. Servers are friendly, and the restaurant has warm and cozy atmosphere. Note that the restaurant does not sit on Deansgate Road; it’s actually inside the Great Northern construction.
Amazing food, service and atmosphere! We admired and enjoyed the detailed design and preparation of each dish. The ability of the serving staff to describe each dish with such enthusiasm and precision was quite impressive too.
Can’t recommend the experience enough.
Truly excellent dining experience. The food was amazing and the staff were looking after us properly. Slightly pricey but well worth the money. Strongly recommend!
