We enjoyed our visit for the first time to Federals this morning. There was a long wait of 25 min in the rain as the cafe isn’t huge or have a lot of seating. Nevertheless, once we got our table we placed our orders. The french toast was by far the standout item, exquisite, the clotted cream was delicious. The Turkish eggs also tasted fresh, authentic and rustic. Overall a pleasant experience, can be tiring with the long wait times and not the most spacious place to bring a baby buggy into
The French toast is amazing! Very very delicious, the steak and eggs also very juicy and amazing! A lovely place to have lunch at Manchester.
Best breakfast/brunch I've had in aaaages! I got the Turkish eggs, the breakfast caprese special and French toast. Legitimately so tasty. Loved every bite.
There was a queue but we got seated within 60seconds. We had sensational oat flat white and one spilt on the way to us, we were adamant it was fine but he insisted on getting us a new one. Amazing service, amazing coffee, can’t wait to come back to try the menu. Highly recommend
French toast is definitely the star of the show and a must-have! Also got the Today's Specials which had been the chocolate bread pudding. They ran out of cherries so we got strawberries instead, which was more of our preference anyway.
As a sweet tooth, this is just the right kind of delicacy that I need. I like how the fruits (blueberries/strawberries) were able to balance out the sweetness of the caramel drizzle and chocolate sauce on the dishes. Also the crumble seasoned on the french toast, seemingly unimportant, had been an essential player to give that bit of crunch to the soft and mellowy toast. And the whipped cream on top, surprisingly and in a good way, had been of thick and blocky instead of your usual fluff and airy texture.
Rustic bijou coffee house with a range of eats set in the student Quarter of Manchester. We arrived around 11 am on a Tuesday and managed to grab the last of the free tables. The place is super clean and the staff were friendly. We only had a coffee and a tea but could see what other diners were having and the food looks great. There is no easy parking nearby. Expect to queue. Disabled access is limited as the tables are tightly packed.
Not only the food and friendly staff, I also liked the environment once I walked in. The atmosphere is so comfortable to sit inside.
What's even better is the cafe is right across the road of John Dalton Building of MMU. It feels like I was visiting my past when I was a university student many years ago while enjoying my food looking outside the window.
Loved the atmosphere! Federal Bar & Cafe is definitely a nice place to drop for breakfast/brunch. I got the french toast with mascarpone and fruits (I just realised they were more famous for their eggs and steaks after I ate lol). Oh well, the bread was fluffly, and the latte was very fragrant, too! The total was £14ish, so this is one of the high-end breakfast spots in Manchester.
Great location, food is tasty and nice presented but portions are small and i think a bit overpriced .I am not sure if i ever gonna be back there but is worth to visit and make own mind.
Great place for breakfast/brunch options and friendly staff. Tasty options all around the menu.
The only recommendation I'd give is that due to the location of the restaurant when the door opens to the outside there was a lot of wind coming in which resulted in skme cases the door takjng for ever to close or needed someone to close it. Maybe if it is reversed to open on the inside, this can be reduced or solved.
Overall, I would recommend this place and thus giving it a 5 star review. Thank you.
Normally, I avoid Federal as there are always queues when I pass, so I was pleasantly surprised today to see none, hence why I popped in. Ordered the steak chimichurri & eggs special and a coffee. Coffee was great, and really enjoyed the food. Staff are really great. I found the music to be too loud, so couldn’t receive a phone call while I was sat there. The online ordering system is a faff too, so I gave up on that (signing up to the free wifi is also a faff); at least they allow you to order at the till, so I did. Why venues continue to push online /app ordering is beyond me. It needs to be simple and I’ve yet to find a really good streamlined one. Anyway, grumble over about bloody apps. Federal’s spots are great if there are no queues so I will pop back again for a mid-week, mid-afternoon spot of lunch!
I came here for breakfast on a Sunday morning, it was busy but we didn't have to queue up. We got a seat near the window, this was OK but if I came with friends I'd prefer a table so I can sit opposite them. Staff were very polite and helpful. They have a halal option which you can request so we ordered the steak and eggs and the halloumi and shrooms with French toast and a mocha. Slight issue with my food not arriving due to the chef not seeing my order but this was resolved and my food arrived very quickly after. The food was nice and portion sizes were good. The French toast was very sweet and filling.
Had a birthday brunch at Federal Cafe and it was lovely! I had the Turkish eggs and it was a very tasty dish. Also shared the French toast and it was so good! Lovely breakfast options. Bathroom has a baby changing table. The tables did fill up quick on a Friday morning so I’d recommend being there early, especially if you have a big group of you(not sure if they take bookings over the phone as I didn’t try to do this). They do have individual cubbys for single diners and there were at least two available when I went.
Great coffee and food, specially the french toast. Visited both shops of Federal Cafe and both were excellent. Highly recommended
French toast is a MUST! It was very delicious, and the place is worth to wait in the queue
It's my favourite place to have breakfast in Manchester. The eggs benedict with bacon is AMAZING. 😋
Wow. What I can say about the amazing Federal cafe. Completed the trio! Northern Quarter, Deansgate and today the New Oxford Road. The people were amazing, no queue!☺️☺️☺️. The food was lovely and freshly cooked.
The coffee was amazing. One the best flat whites out there! 👏.
Can’t fault them at all and will be coming back again.
Thank you!
Lovely little coffee place on Oxford Rd. Attentive staff, great vibe inside. Lovely breakfast with coffee. Great way to start the day!
