Awesome music venue. Here we saw Alright, The Paul Taylor Experience and Scumface which was brilliant. Not only do the bands bring in a friendly and fun crowd, the venue is laid out nicely and drinks are reasonably priced. The toilets were clean (always gets bonus points!) and the staff were super friendly. Definitely worth getting to see a show or two there
This is a venue designed around function rather than frills.
Drink offers were good and staff were very pleasant.
It is a proper pub with a very decent space upstairs for live music.
I was at a gig featuring Dru Blue, Katie Mac and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. All of the acts did a smashing job and made for a very good evening. I highly recommend going to see any of the 3 solo 👍
It's an old pub but with great character (I'm not sure if they serve food here 😕)
Watch a Bronagh Gallagher gig here she was brilliant the staff were friendly very helpful and all patrons were great no trouble all fun 😀 👍
Great pub with a little room upstairs for music gigs.
Great small gig venue, if you're a lover of intimate gigs you'll enjoy the Star and Garter.
Warning - it is two flights of stairs to get up to the gig room, so not accessible to all.
In a grungy pub like this, I expected the drinks to be super cheap, but it was £5 for a pint of Amstel; which means the cost of living has affected these guys too 😩
All of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, couldn't fault them one bit.
An iconic building behind Piccadilly Railway station, known around the world for its infamous Smith's and Morrissey night on the first week of the month. Popular with all age groups and have themed nights throughout the week as well as bands performing. Hasn't succumbed to the glitzy superpub status, it's your typical back street pub with all the original fixtures and fittings, how a true pub should be. Pool table (seen better days) fruit machine, pulled pints, crisps and an atmosphere....
Always an impressive building to approach, the Star & Garter is a no nonsense old school pub and a proper 'band upstairs' venue. There is some great musical heritage at the S & G too. Well worth a visit.
The longest running regular club night (Morrissey/Smiths Disco). Definitely worth a shot
We need more independent venues like this!
Saw Bronagh Gallagher here recently and it was a fab venue for a gig!
A legendary venue with absolutely tons of history. This is one of Manchester best places for the more underground level of bands. It's also got great owners. 2 for a fiver on cans.... Oh hell yeah! It's also been featured loads in different TV shows. You have to experience this place. It has a mega atmosphere!!

Went here for the mozarmy weekender 2023, great staff, great venue. If you want a venue that you can throw a proper party in. This is it. Loved it that much we want to hold a vow renewal party here 2024 5*****
An amazing place. Hidden away on the corner of Fairfield Street, the Star and Garter is one of, if not the most influential indie club that has existed ever in Manchester - probably the world. Famed for its Morrissey Smiths Disco and Smile, the Star continues to allow indie kids from all over a fab night out without the need to suffer a guy in a bucket hat and shades in the middle of winter. If you're a fan of Manchester's indie scene, and you haven't been, you can't really call yourself a fan.
But that's not all, The Star plays host to weekly gigs from Manchester's best upcoming artists. Whether it's indie or dreampop, sludge or stoner, it's the best place in town for new music.
The staff are excellent, and the beer is reasonably priced. They've done away with fancy craft ales that take up far too much of your time to order (if you want to sip things and talk about a "bouquet", book a wine tasting), and gone back to the traditionals - San Miguel, Boddingtons, Half a Beck's and a packet of pork scratchings style! If, however, you're still stuck in 2016, they do provide a small selection of craft beer suited to most tastes, but take a look around you and you'll soon realise that you should've just gone with Red Stripe.
A punk rock venue of the highest quality! No frills and no nonsense!
I honestly love this place. Only been for Metal gigs and I can't express how great each visit of mine has been. Most chill venue, the bands are usually chilling by their merch downstairs, Is always get excited when a band plays here because it opens up photo opportunities. Good drink prices too.
Its like a normal pub downstairs, with a decent sized music venue on next floor, its brilliant!
Don't sell food the best venue in music venue in Manchester
"The last real indie venue" is as it was described by the owner. I went to watch Call Me Karizma play on May 4, and the upstairs stage room has enough space for maybe 100 people, the downstairs with a quaint bar and seating composed of sofas, chairs, and benches in three open floor rooms next to the bar.
Very comfortable place, would recommend for friends nights out to watch bands.
