If you fancy something a little different ......
then this is definitely worth a try. The decor is nothing to write home about because its rather basic, but if you want to go somewhere for the food, then go for it!
Gorgeous place to eat. My friend and I came in for dinner before a trip to the theatre and came out Very full and Very happy. I would recommend the sharing platters; we split the mixed meat/vegan one between two and everything we ate was delightful, with generous quantities. The service was very friendly and some lovely wine to wash it down. Really authentic food from the heart, right in the northern quarter, with a menu to change things up from the toastie/brunch menus on offer all around it. For the area, quality and quantity the price was more than reasonable. Give it a visit for sure!
None of us had ever tried this cuisine before but will definitely be having it again. Great value, delicious and lovely atmosphere and friendly team. Meat eaters and vegans full and satisfied. Platters great value to try different elements.
10/10 would recommend.
Food was tasty and it was nice to try something different.
The food was amazing! My and my partner shared the mixed platter for one person, and it was still huge! The prices seemed a bit expensive, but once we saw the large portion size it made a little more sense. The staff were nice and smiley. Definitely worth a visit if you’re looking for nutritious home-made kinda food!
We ate here pre theatre, so the limited table times meant we knew we would have the meal served without having to rush to get to our seats. Loved the teff pancake / bread with which we ate the meal. Had a platter, so we could get a flavour of as much as possible, and it was all good, flavoursome and well cooked. A different eating experience we will be repeating.
We had the vegan platter and it was delicious! Great value for money and lovely staff.
Thank you!
Lovely independent restaurant run by very friendly and helpful staff. The food was very tasty and portions very generous. The experience was made even more enjoyable by the staff who were happy to provide details on what everything was and lots of cultural background info. We were given small shots of delicious honey wine and we finished the meal with Ethiopian/Erritrean coffee which was truly fantastic. Congratulations to the restaurant for providing such a unique and friendly experience. Highly recommended!
Absolutely wonderful evening here for my birthday with 40 friends. The food was unbelievably tasty and had compliments from everyone. The team created a buffet for 40 people and we had a private room, which worked perfectly. The service was just 10/10, they looked after us so well. I can't recommend it highly enough! I will be returning for many more meals in the future. Thank you so much for the best evening! x
I absolutely love this place. I’ve been here a lot and now I use it as a place to take colleagues who come to Manchester and want to try something new. The food is delicious and I love how you eat the ‘plate’ and eat with your hands, although cutlery is of course available if you want it. And the price is incredibly reasonable for the amount of food and flavour you get. 100% recommend.
Me and my partner went for an evening meal. This was our first time trying authentic Ethiopian and Eritrean food. We loved it! Will definitely be returning. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the chef was amazing. The food was clearly prepared with fresh ingredients. If you are open to trying authentic cuisine from other cultures this is the place for you. Cannot recommend enough!
Very sweet cultured service, staff are extremely warm welcoming, themed very well with good atmosphere, nice smell when walking in. Very fast service, reasonable prices great drinks selection. We had been recommended the Bebeaynetu meat platter for 3 with Injera rolls, Injera may be a little too spur for some, alternative options would be nice but meat itself and food was very well cooked and seasoned thoroughly.
Decided to try this place out for my short stay in Manchester due to the excellent reviews on Google. After my experience I completely understand why they are so good. I ordered the vegan platter Bebeaynetu special. It was so delicious and filling too !! Highly recommend the place for a cultural food experience but also for the excellent service as the food were very welcoming and attentive .
First time trying ethiopian cuisine and was so delicious. We ordered the mosob which is selection of meat and vegetarian dishes. And traditional coffee, took some time to arrive but ……Staff were very friendly.
We were in #vegan heaven!
Awesome service and brill vegan dishes.
A must visit when in Manchester!
Extremely friendly and helpful service. Our waitress, Samrawit helped us understand the menu and any food we weren't familiar with, have us excellent recommendations. Food and drinks all came quickly.
We had the mosob sharing platter with the Ethiopian coffee as well as some cold drinks. All beyond delicious. Especially liked the presentation of the coffee which came in a real clay pot with a small incense burner which really made the atmosphere after a delicious meal.
Will definitely be coming back.
Excellent little place. Great food, friendly staff. Highly recommended.
The food was very, very delicious and home cooked. The staff were equally delightful. Per other reviews, we found that the portions were big and not being huge eaters, we ordered a 2 person Mosob ( mixed meat and vegetables with Injera) between 3 plus one starter to share - and that worked out well. The highlight was the superb coffee served Ethiopian style - not to be missed if you enjoy an after dinner coffee. I would definitely go back and would also recommend to anyone who likes to try different world foods
After a day shopping in Manchester we decided to stay for dinner. A quick google search found the Asmara Bella close by. Neither of us had ever eaten Eritrean or Ethiopian food so we thought we should give it a try.
When you access the Asmara Bella website there is a facility to make a reservation, as we had never been before and it was a Saturday we thought it would be prudent to book a table online for 6.30pm. We received an email confirmation of our booking almost immediately.
We arrived at the restaurant at 6pm and were met be friendly staff. I explained that we had a reservation that I had just booked online. It was obvious that although I received a confirmation email of our reservation the restaurant was not aware of it. The staff said it was not a problem and found us a table. My tip would be to phone for a last minute reservation rather than use the online booking.
We opted for the ‘Mosob’ which is a 2 person platter of meat dishes and vegan dishes that come with handmade Injera. Injera is described as a thick, chewy bread made from teff or other grains. I would describe it as more like a pancake. It was absolutely delicious. No cutlery comes with the meal as you use the Injera as the utensil.
With our meal we ordered two Asmara beers. Neither of us are big beer drinkers, however it is always good to try something different. The beer was Ok, to me is tasted slightly malty. I would not buy it again I would opt for a wine instead.
After the meal we tried the traditional Eritrean & Ethiopian Coffee for 2 people. It took a while for it to arrive as the Chef actually roasted the beans to order. When it did arrive it came with a popcorn snack and an aromatic frankincense. After a while the frankincense started to smoke the place out so we asked the staff to take it away. It was good to experience traditional coffee once, we would give it a miss when we visit again.
The restaurant has good decor and a nice atmosphere. The bathroom is on the first floor and accessed only via some steep stairs. This restaurant does not have a lift.
The Asmara Bella is well worth a visit.
