We had a lovely meal last night. We've never been before but were really surprised - probably one of the best chinese meals we've had. There is so much choice (we will have to go again next time we're in Manchester). The food was really good and tasty and value for money. The service was great - just right - and we weren't rushed at all. I'd definitely recommend it.

This is the best Chinese food in the North West. A bonus for me as Coeliac is that they also have the best ever gluten free Chinese food in the whole world. You won't regret your visit here.
Exceptionally friendly family owning and running the restaurant. Food is amazing i need gluten free. Not a problem they have an extensive gf menu ! Lovely i thoroughly recommend it to anyone. What a gem ! Five stars.
The gluten free salt and pepper chicken wings were amazing! Lovely to find a gluten free Chinese restaurant. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. Food was delicious.
The best Chinese in Manchester! The food is incredible and staff are very friendly and attentive. Definitely worth a visit!
The food almost reduced me to tears. My taste buds couldn't handle the bombardment of flavours that I was eating, and it brought a huge smile to my face with every bite.
The service was outstanding, and the staff made absolutely certain that the food for myself and my fiancée were appropriate for our dietary and allergy requirements.
Would recommend for anyone considering going.
Will be eating here again!
This place is fantastic, friendly staff, fabulous food, I am gluten free and the choice is amazing absolutely loved it x
Had the best gluten free meal I’ve ever had, we will definitely be returning, thank you.
Came highly recommended by my hotel's Concierge, and she was not Chinese. ☺
I then learnt that it is a favourite of my unmet culinary Guru - Mr. Gordon Ramsay's too. Now how could I resist leaving it out of my must visit list? It was a short walk from my hotel and Chinese food would be a perfect way to end a Sunday.
It's not a fancy place nor expensive, but does exude warmth. Has the typical Chinese decor like red paper lanterns without overdoing it. At 7.30pm, the place had maybe 4 tables occupied. Possibly because it was game day - ManUnited was playing.
The owner (3rd generation restauranteur) and hostess+order taker+server in one were both welcoming.
Food order : Sweet corn chicken soup and hot and sour soup followed by egg fried rice with sizzling scallops in a ginger scallion sauce.
Soups are a true test of fare in a Chinese eatery for me. Let's just say that the hot n sour soup was different from what I had expected. I would have preferred to call it sweet and sour. It was not bad, but not what my taste buds were craving for. Eating it with the salty prawn crackers made the soup a bit more nicer.
The scallops were over done but the sauce stood out and the fried rice was simple but full of flavour. I did spice my meal with Chilli oil made fresh by the owner who said that not many ask for it, preferring the house made bottled sauces on the table.
Meal for 2 with a soft beverage GBP 35.
Would I visit again if I am in Manchester. Probably yes but with no great expectations except it being value for money.
PS the eatery photographs every diner for some reason. Probably to Google if anyone famous stepped in. I hope after reading this review the owner does not .......
I have always been a fan of this place, what a historical journey for the family bringing traditional cooking to Manchester. The food is excellent but totally unfussy, just great traditional flavours & the warmest welcome you will find in the Northern Quarter. Give it a go you will not be disappointed!
Great food at reasonable prices.. My wife say these girls win their heat on 'The F Word' so we went last night. The food was better than expected, service was very good and they even tried to give me my tip back!
Good food , nice atmosphere, reasonable prices, very friendly staff. Would go again. Trish

some of the mains tasted suspiciously similar, but my king prawn satay was bob on and crispy duck was consumed at a frightening rate by our group. I’ve found the service a bit on the cold side previously but was quite the opposite
What looks like an unassuming Chinese restaurant actually boasts Gordon Ramsey’s Best Local Chinese Restaurant in the UK award and its founding sisters Lisa and Helen triumphed on The F Word with a specially prepared menu.
Really great service and an all round great experience. A tad bit disappointed with the food as my Szechuan beef didn't really taste like Szechuan beef but you could tell the food was great quality. I still would recommend it.
One of the best restaurants I visited. This rated as best Chinese restaurant in UK by Gordon Ramsay.
I'm surprised why no one has reviewed it till now.
We went late at around 9pm but the staff politely asked us to order everything in a go.
I ordered lemon chicken deluxe with egg fried rice and my friend ordered phad thai mixed noodles.
Both the delicacies were very good and cooked perfectly.
The ambience is very good, a perfect place to bring your girlfriend.
Service was impeccable.
Came here for our Daughters Birthday as she is celiac and they offer a good gluten free menu.
To avoid any possible confusion or potential mix up with our meal choices, we all decided to just pick from the gluten free menu and it was great, very nice indeed!
I’ve eaten some gluten free meals before and I could certainly taste the difference with some of them, but here, it tasted lovely and just like what we would taste if we ordered from the standard menu.
We did order quite a lot of various dishes so we could sample a wide, varied selection and all the food came correct and in good time. There were no mistakes made when our server took our order and we did not have to wait long at all for our food to come.
A side note relating to the staff here, there were two servers on duty when we came and both were super friendly, super attentive and a credit to the restaurant. It wasn’t exactly busy when we came, but they didn’t stop helping the clients that were in there eating.
As stated, we ordered quite a few different dishes, so too many to list them all, but all I can say is everything from the noodles, salt and pepper chips to the chicken and duck dishes from the gluten free menu were very, very nice.
It’s quite a small compact restaurant but is well presented, clean and tables are economically laid out. It’s also well located in Manchester, just a short walk to the Arndale Shopping Centre.
Another big plus for me is they employ a paper towel dispenser in the toilets for drying your hands after washing, rather than the very unhygienic hot air blowers. Something small and insignificant to most people, but a big plus for me.
If you’re a fan of this style of cuisine and are looking for a good gluten free place to eat, then you won’t go far wrong coming here.
A Chinese restaurant with a full gluten free menu!!! What an incredible find for our short trip to Manchester. To have such a wide choice of gluten free options at a Chinese restaurant was just incredible and so we over ordered, wanting to try as much as possible. We were not disappointed when the food came, incredible crispy salt and pepper wings, sweet and sour chicken, crispy shredded beef and much more. Tasted exactly like gluten containing Chinese. Will definitely be visiting here again if back in Manchester.
We came here today for our anniversary meal and it was so lovely and such a nice experience. The food was tasty and delicious, the staff was attentive and nice. Towards the end of our meal a waiter came over and asked if we were celebrating anything special and when we told them it was our anniversary they asked for our names and 3 minutes later they brought out lovely and kind card with a little gift. It was honestly so nice and made our day even more special. The place is decorated beautifully and we will definitely come again!
As a newly diagnosed celiac, I thought the days of me being able to enjoy a Chinese were over.
The food here is incredible and they couldn’t have been more accommodating for gluten free.
An entire separate menu dedicated to it. I had the sweet and sour chicken and egg fried rice and it was AMAZING!
The service too is phenomenal.
When the waiter presented me with my dish, he said with pride ‘it’s all gluten free my friend.’
I’m still buzzing.
What a place.
Can’t thank them enough.
Such a lovely experience visiting Sweet Mandarin. 2 adults & 2 children 1 x GF We all ate from the GF menu which had lots of tasty choices available, every dish was delicious. From the moment we entered the staff made us feel so welcome, very friendly & happy to chat. Helen was particularly lovely with our children who were lucky enough to have her cookbook gifted to them, so kind! They are already planning on what dishes to cook themselves. Although we live quite a distance away we are already looking forward to visiting again soon. If you haven't already visited we would highly reccomended.
Good range of options for gluten-free and vegan diners. I lived in Hong Kong for 6 years so my standards are very high for Chinese food. The set menu food (gluten-free) was fine. The zodiac-themed cocktails were extremely tempting & delicious - I especially enjoyed my sheep cocktail.
Came here for a family meal and we all had such a lovely time, and had some very very delicious food.
As a gluten free girlie I struggle to find places for me and my picky-eater family members to enjoy. But this ticked everyone’s boxes! The food was flavoured to perfection, leaving a long-lasting flavour on your tongue to make you want to go back for more!
I also got the Sheep zodiac cocktail and it was delicious.
Me and my family would all recommend this place and would love to come back.
The service was perfect, staff were all friendly, there was a tiny mishap with one of my orders but that was swiftly resolved with no trouble at all!
We went on a sunday so it was fairly quiet but the atmosphere was still wonderful.
Make sure you visit Sweet Mandarin for some gorgeous, gluten free Chinese food!
Such a lovely independent Chinese restaurant. Being gluten free I have always missed having this cuisine and it was so lovely to have the set menu. It was a shame we were going to a concert so couldn't take the leftovers with us! Highly recommend
I visited Sweet Mandarin today and went in with no expectations. We waited outside in the cold for about ten minutes and a chap walked over and set the placard to open but didn't open the doors for us and we had to open it ourselves, which was a bit odd, but aside from that everything was perfect. The cocktails were very tiny for 9 quid. However the food was incredible! Amazing selection of vegan and gluten free options, my mum was in her element. I had the salt and pepper tofu, salt and pepper mushrooms, chilli tofu, green curry and egg free rice. The food was perfect and it was the best Chinese food I've ever had!
Not sure of her name but our waitress was really sweet and attentive, and she brought me a birthday card and a small box of coffee creams. I was so taken aback by this lovely gesture! The other lady behind the bar was lovely too. The decor was really pretty and I'd absolutely go back in a heartbeat. Best gluten free curry sauce we've ever had, and the salt and pepper tofu was delicious ☺️ thanks for the lovely birthday meal.
If I could give more than 5 stars I wouldn’t hesitate to do so, absolutely amazing all around! Impeccable service and simply wonderful food. Every single server we dealt with was so warm and friendly, especially Helen. Ordered gluten-free due to coeliac disease and have rarely felt so safe, or eaten such amazing Chinese food. 10/10 would definitely come again and recommend to anyone!
Lovely atmosphere and great service from all the staff who were very attentive. Food arrived quickly and tasted great. The gluten free menu gave me lots of choice so would definitely visit again
Looking for seriously good Gluten Free Chinese food? This is the place. A huge selection of food carefully prepared and is delicious. Make sure you're hungry because there's so much choice, you'll want one of everything.
My gluten-free partner hadn’t had this many options in a long time! The staff clearly understand allergy requirements and there are separate GF and vegan menus. The food tasted amazing, in well-sized portions so we left very full!!
Fabulous food, nicely decorated, calm atmosphere. Will return. Staff are nice although some of the servers seem quite young and clueless sometimes no offence of course just need more experience and training… other than that it’s great!
After only just being diagnosed as coeliac, I was worried about visiting Manchester but come across this amazing restaurant.
The staff were lovely and assured me about the gluten free options available. Everything in this picture is gluten free. I personally loved the different menus on the table to avoid the embarrassment of asking for the GF menu. The food was absolutely delicious too.
We will definitely be back on our next visit to Manchester. If you are around the area it is a MUST!
A great place for friends to catch up. The atmosphere is relaxed and the location of Sweet Mandarin is perfectly situated in the heart of the Northern Quarter. Been many times and looking forward to the ribs, sweet and sour, prawn toast, spring rolls again! Slightly hooked on the Rooster cocktail.
Paradise for celiacs. Almost everything is gluten-free! Even the spring rolls. The food was fantastic! First time I could eat Chinese food since my diagnosis. I'll definitely be back when I'm back in Manchester.
