I have to say the service & staff at this place was absolutely fantastic. From the moment we walked in they were so friendly and welcoming. After our meal the waitress asked if everything was ok so briefly i mentioned i found the pie a little bitter, she apologised and took our plates. A short while later to my surprise the manager came and told me she tasted another batch of the pie i had ordered and agreed it was bitter. She apologised and took the meal off the bill and offered free desserts. I was so pleased with this service as i didn't even complain and never expected this kind gesture, so thank you i really appreciated it. I'll definitely give 5* for service. The pie which my friend had was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place and look forward to going back there again. I'm a vegetarian and have to say there was a good selection of vegetarian & vegan pies.

Had this pencilled in as our foodie stop on a wee boys day out and it didn't disappoint. We went for the Vinda-Roo pie with dirty mash. The Vinda-Roo isn't Vindaloo hot though. Just tasty as hell. Its say heat wise its tickling the underside of a Madras. Washed down with a couple of pints of very good real ales. Service was fantastic too. Very friendly and welcoming and knowledgeable about beer! Cant recommend this place enough.

It's delicious short crust pie, filled with succulent ingredients, topped with fluffy mash and swamped in tasty gravy. What's not to like. Add to this real Ale to wash it down with and a whimsical pastry animal on top ( mine was a moo cow) and you are in pie heaven. (elasticated waistbands recommended)

Amazing food and service, great choice of food. My sister is vegan and the pies were all finished off. I tried a vegan mango beer, i will definately be having more of those and returning to Pie and Ale

Excellent pies with my girlfriend choosing the steak and yipeeeye one and myself having the lamb and mint sauce one! Very nice and filling. We were there on the 5th Birthday of the Manchester pubs and beer group with 70 of us there! Brilliant atmosphere and really enjoyed the bar and pies!

Delicious food for a great price

Visited on a monday and took advantage of the pie and a pint for £9.95 deal.

Me and my partner both absolutely loved the food, tasted so fresh and delicious, and the gravy was beautiful.

Staff were really friendly and service was prompt.

Will definitely return!

Recently reopened, the Pie & Ale pub offers substantial, tasty food at reasonable prices. I was specifically looking for pie the night I decided to visit and I had a Rabbit Pie that was really wonderful. It's clearly a popular pub based on the number of Man City fans in attendance the night I was there. Despite being very busy, the staff was friendly and attentive. Bottom line: Go.

What's not to like?. As a Northerner exiled in deepest, darkest Kent this place takes me back to my roots. Great food, I had the Bison pie (not my roots) and it was marvellous!! Superb range of real ales, which always are top, top, standard. The staff are friendly and super efficient. If you enjoy wholesome food and a friendly atmosphere don't miss this place. For me it's almost worth the train ticket alone,

It was slightly surreal finding myself wandering round the Northern Quarter late May looking for meal inspiration and deciding that a pie would really hit the spot. God bless the summer in Manchester. Pie and Ale is part of the Bakerie family - hidden away in The Hive mini-arcade like Narnia inside the cupboard behind the eponymously named main restaurant on Lever Street.

I have a love/hate relationship with pies. As a sufferer of chronic heartburn, the very sight of such an amount of pastry makes me want to sit in a bath of milk. On the other hand, my favourite dish as a child was a bean pie. This was a steak pie from Greenhalgh’s, emptied of its filling before stuffing full of baked beans then putting the lid back on (my brother and I should invent

Just look at these pies! Beautifully crisp pastry and fillings crammed with flavour. A pretty decent beer list too...

The pastry at Pie & Ale was perfectly baked and full of flavour, so any guilt I might have experienced eating the incredibly generous portion was soon forgotten. The Steak & Ale filling was savoury and the gravy was rich, but not as copious as I would have liked – although I am probably overly fond of sauces.

The pie was good, it tasted proper home made (they make them on the premises) and the price was fair, plus the bar staff were really friendly.
I like eating pies and I like drinking beer, so Pie&Ale bar was always going to be a winner with me to be honest, and it was.

On my visit there was a choice of eight delicious sounding pies available – the Devilled Kidney & Mushroom (£5.45) sounded good, as did the vegan option of Chickpea & Artichoke (£4.95) but in the end I decided to go traditional for my first visit and ordered the Steak & Ale (£5.95).

Extraordinary pies! I was recommended this place and say down to a vegan 'mushroom and Guinness', which comes served with mash and gravy, plus a pint of guest ale. Pies are inherently good, but this was the best pie I've ever eaten! So delicious, and perfect with its side dishes. I was totally bowled over.

Great twist on a Sunday Roast. Chilled space, large portion and highly recommended. And a return visit for their Steak and Ale pie with a pint for just a tenner!

Went to watch the rugby here, had pie and ale. Best pies I've had in a long time too, brilliant food. I don't drink so I can't comment on the ale but nobody else was complaining. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, all nice and clean. Service was quick too. Would be great if they had more AF options but that's no different to anywhere else. Definitely going back.

I’ve come here with a very big group (60 plus) for an event after work. Very well organized and good food. The chicken wings were pretty terrible, but the nachos, the pies, the potatoes, the grilled cheese was awesome ❤️ Nice poured beer and a very good place and Environment. Come for a beer and pie ☺️ No idea on the prices, as the event was sponsored.

I recommend giving it a try. I did not expect a chicken pie to be like this! It is nice that the chicken is not coated by oily white source, but the chicken is marinaded. So far, the pies I had were all white cream with plain chicken, but this one is in a reverse way. They did well on the chicken meat. The pie wall was also hard enough that the juicy did not split everywhere. You can image the texture. Having such quality at the city center with this price is totally worth it. I put a 4 star here because the curry coat pie my wife had was not spicy enough, may be they remove the chill to address more customers. But I can smell they put good enough amout of spice there. The mash is also good. I can taste potato sweetness instead of loads of butter in other restaurants. The service there is friendly and quick.

I haven't been in the Pie and Ale for about 4 months because I no longer work in central Manchester. It hasn't changed. Its still as good as ever. The staff are as friendly as ever and the pies are amazing. Continues to be a favourite and this is why I'm having my wedding reception here. Really good selection of craft beers at reasonable prices. The food is delicious and worth visiting for the pies alone.

Wow !! We came here 12 pm Saturday lunchtime. The food is amazing. We got the Chicken pie with mash and stuffing and pigs in blankets large hotdog. Really fresh and tasty and if we lived nearby we would come here regularly. I was really surprised it was a bit quiet and cold when we visited but it deserves to be jammed. If you fancy hearty food you won't be disappointed.

what a pie!!! really like it, good portion, very tasty, excellent customer service. I tried the sunday roast pie, I can tell you it is an awesome alternative to the typically sunday roast. I advise you to give a try. Very good beers selection too

Faultless, great ale selection and well kept, fantastic food, just the right level of ambience banging tunes, but not in your face, booths to hide in, immaculate toilets, friendly staff, without being over bearing. Seriously, couldn’t fault it -fab! Loaded nachos, pig in blanket hot dog and loaded roast potatoes with chilli were consumed with (we’re only staying for one!) 4 very decent pints of well kept ale. We will definitely be back well done guys. Keep it up. Front door hard to find, but I’m glad because once you find it, you won’t want to leave x
