We found this place online and made the decision to try it when we were in Manchester city centre. We made use of their happy hour offer and a free pizza. The pizza was excellent, and it was a wonderful deal. The life music enhanced the pleasant ambiance, and the personnel were delightful.

I didn’t really get anything to eat or drink here. I just wanted to listen to some good music and I did. I had the privilege of watching the Nick Dewhurst Band perform and they were amazing! Kudos to the entire team for captivating the audience and getting everyone jiving and grooving. Best wishes to all the band members! PS: will definitely go back and get some food and drinks next time! ;)

Amazing place! Great atmosphere, chilled clientele, a solid queer/friendly vibe. Ridiculously attractive bar staff and incredibly talented musicians. Can't recommend highly enough.

I love Matt and Phred’s so much! It’s easily the home of jazz in Manchester, and it does justice to that reputation! The venue is quite large for a jazz club, but sometimes it can really fill up and feel like quite an energetic, upbeat atmosphere. I’ve never had the staff be anything but kind and outgoing with me, and it’s always a pleasure to go here. I highly recommend their jam nights on Mondays. I attended the jazz jam, and it was a very welcoming group of musicians and audience. Great experience! Cocktails are well-made too! I love the happy hour deals they run every week day. Highly highly recommend

I was over here for a work event and stayed overnight. A colleague had been before and had a great night, so had booked table as there was a band on. I'd had a couple of beers before, and turned up nicely in time to get settled before the band kicked off - they were great, by the way. A two-piece piano and guitar and their first set might as well have been picked off my top 50 Spotify list!! Not jazz, though :) The venue is fairly open plan, with tables dotted around to make the most of the excellent stage at the back of the room. I've played city centre venues before, and I would have loved them all to have a stage as good as this one! Decent windows at the front probably let a nice amount of daylight through, but it was February, so there was none to be seen! It didn't get too busy while we were there, but there were a decent number of folk and they were paying the band appropriate respect and attention, which was well deserved. The beer selection was alright, which was a pleasant surprise; I was half expecting to have to navigate some bland keg options, but they did well. In addition, they'd bolstered it with a range of cans and bottles, and some great Scotch on the shelf. A range of pizzas, and whilst it wasn't a massive choice, it was wide ranging enough that I was very happy. It came without too much wait, and was absolutely cracking - just what I needed. The staff were super friendly and helpful. I had planned to head back to the hotel and get a few work things sorted before the next day, but I was having far too much fun and stayed for the full set. One thing i will say is the suitability of this place as a base during any zombie apocalypse. Whilst you'd need to use some of those tables to block out the windows, I don't think it would be too hard. One of the big challenges would be if you got caught downstairs in the loos when a swarm hit...

This place made our weekend. We were late to enter, and we almost went home, but I'm so glad we paid the £7 entry fee and found a table in here. Great music and the musicians were class performers. I was bopping and foot tapping from start to finish. Drinks were around £9 for a cocktail (there's a bit extra for table service, but our feet were tired and we didn't want to lose the table, so didn't resent this). Everyone in here was friendly, it's a great atmosphere. We will be back!
