We came here for a stop off meal on our way to take my Daughter to Heathrow.
What a find! The food and hospitality were amazing. It was such a nice touch bringing the Chefs out to meet us. We couldn't believe how much attention to detail had been put into the food. We ate off both the Lunch menu and the Vegan menus and every single dish was faultless. You should all be applauded. Some of the best food we have eaten. Although my Daughter is now in Australia we will be returning very soon. Thank you for making our lunch so special.
Completely delicious vegan food! The chorizo and mash is the best vegan meal I’ve had at a restaurant. Wish I could eat it every day. It’s so nice to go somewhere where the vegan food is a priority and not an afterthought xxx
Just been for Fathers day lunch and the food was superb! I'm vegan, my husband is veggie and we had two meat eaters. Extremely attentive, helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble, even brought a bowl of water for our dog. The vegan chocolate fondue was amazing! Will definitely return soon.
My favourite local restaurant and pub! Staff are amazing, food is divine and settings are just so warm and cosy, we especially enjoy tea and cake my the log fire � highly recommend Thanks Louise for making us feel super welcome �

I’ve never given 5* for a review before. I had high expectations after watching Dion two years in a row at the Newport food festival and having tasters of food he prepared in front of us as an audience.
This year they gave out a voucher, so an excuse to visit!
I went for date night with my partner, a fairly local pub for us.
As we approached the bar we were greeted and seen to, drinks in hand we made our way to comfy sofas to wait. Its didnt seem like waiting, we were able to enjoy our drinks in a relaxed, warm atmosphere with the buzz of other peoples concersation in the background. Given a menu to ponder, our orders were taken whilst still in the sofa.
A few moments later we were seen to our rable, coats taken for us and met with our starter.
Plentiful bread and olives platter to start with oils and butter. Shortly after our mains arrived, blade of beef with the poshest but tastiest mash ever with a gravy to leave you wanting more. And a steak with proper chips and tasty side sauce.
The portions were generous and we we did not feel rushed, nor asked about our food whilst with a mouth full (which always seems to happen). Ambience thoughout was lovely and the decor refreshing. Final check - the toilets, modern, clean and freshen up toiletries for the women which was a lovely touch.
We left wanting to return, possibly sooner rather than later to try out the desserts and other tempting dishes.
Thank you to the staff, two men and a women that served us you’re a credit the team and kitchen staff it goes with out saying you’re in the right job!
I would recommend this place for food to anyone!
Magor has needed these lovely new owners for way too long! Absolutely lovely food , excellent customer service. Nothing is too much trouble and I can take my little dog along! Pure bliss. The extensive menu and quality is outstanding and the new chief is amazing. Thankyou for giving me such a lovely option on my doorstep ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
My friend and I spent a few hours here for lunch yesterday, the staff were so lovely and friendly, food was excellent and it was so nice to relax in a very comfortable environment, would recommend The Golden Lion for lunch.
Food is 1st Class, excellent customer service, warm friendly atmosphere, fantastic entertainment nights and has a great Beer garden. All round a great pub with top restaurant food.
Louise and all her staff made today that bit more special...our daughters graduation meal...they went the extra mile...highly recommended!!!! Food, staff and setting were fantastic...thankyou x

Had lunch at The Golden Lion today. They have a lunchtime menu which is good value. Two courses for £10 or three for £13. We had a main course and dessert.
Good vegetarian selection and good sized portions. We were well and truly stuffed afterwards. Good coffee too.
Nice relaxed atmosphere and clean and tidy toilets, always a plus point.
Cozy pub with variety of dishes to select.
Check out their specials, baked sea bass is quite nice.
So, moving families all over the country, and into Wales etc, it’s our duty to seek out the nearest possible places to eat.
I’ve now been to The Golden Lion twice this year. I’ve parked the lorry on Magor Services over night and took a 15 - 20 minute walk to this establishment, which is really worth it!
The food is amazing, lovely staff. Friendly atmosphere. When I come to Wales this is definitely a place I will visit for food.
Looking forward to next time!

staff were great especially Oscar. The food
was excellent on each occasion, they were very
accommodating and even though it gets pretty
busy we never seemed to wait very long for our
food. My favourite was the roast dinner served
on Sundays, but the menu is great with weekly
specials. Fantastic place, nice beer garden
too, compliments to the Chef and all the staff,
brilliant!!
Lovely Sunday Roast. Stuffing balls were homemade and excellent. Happy to give extra gravy and custard. Delicious 😋
Popped in for a drink, the staff were super friendly, the pub was cosy, drinks were very reasonably priced and there was a lot of selection! Plenty of seating areas indoors and outdoors depending on what you’re looking for.
Excellent food at lunch time, and good value. Lovely surroundings.

Incredible food! I had a Fillet Steak, it was cooked to perfection! I can't explain in words how good this food was. One of the family had the chicken and bacon pasta which I ended up finishing off, it was so fresh and full of flavour
We booked the Golden Lion for Xmas Day Dinner for 5, our first meal out for Xmas day.
We arrived around 12.45 for a 1.15 booking and were greeted with a bottle of Prosecco & immediately seated.
Kelly the Chef came to speak to my son about his nut allergy and reassured him he was in safe hands which was fantastic as he can be extremely nervous about eating out.
The starters came promptly & were lovely along with an ‘off the menu’ cheesy garlic bread made especially for our son.
The main Xmas dinner then came out with all the trimmings & was huge - we were stuffed!
The deserts we chose ranged from Xmas pudding to cheese cake, followed by a cheese board & port.
This was followed with the offer of coffee and mince pies which we passed on because we were so full.
Overall, we had a fantastic experience that deserves a 5 star review.
We would definitely recommend & look forward to returning in the future.
Been twice now and great experience on both occasions. Today they opened the kitchen early for us after we had travelled a long way and were very hungry. Lovely, above and beyond service. Will always return for good homecooked pub grub!
