We were flagging at the end of a hot walk, and Cafe Riverside was like an Oasis in the desert....Had a refreshing smoothie, followed by probably the best prawn salad ever, and then more refreshment by means of a home made Lemonade....All perfect, as were the staff; The nice lady even offered to fill our water bottles for us!
We intend to return to Bollington, and will most definitely visit again to try more of the great looking stuff on their menu!
The cafe is located just on the canal side and has outside seating. Inside is cosy and has a great atmosphere.
We visit sometimes for a coffee and cake. There is often vegan cake available which is great. Today we had a vegan breakfast. We ordered an extra hash brown each and the portion didn’t blow us away to be honest, we had to ask for a proper piece of toast, as what we were brought to begin with was a small solid toasted crust. The staff did swap it out for bigger pieces of toast but unfortunately this had dairy butter on when they’ve brought it out, which we had to address again, as we have ordered a vegan meal. This was rectified by the manager in the end and a drink was taken off the bill for the hassle, which we appreciated. A coffee and cake is probably the best option here if you’re looking for something vegan and tasty, the full vegan breakfast not so much.
Characterful and buzzing cafe. In an impressive old mill building. The location next to the Macclesfield canal is attractive. And of course most importantly the food and drink is of a good standard
A lovely cafe inside Clarence Mill, beside the canal. Seating inside (up some fairly steep steps) and outside on the level. A really peaceful place to sit and watch the boats go by. Today, we just had tea-for-2 and toasted teacakes, but there is a good range of brunch options and light lunches. Tea comes with vintage bone china cups and saucers: a nice touch! The teacakes were tasty and came with jam (though I’m not sure how I feel about that - good butter is all that a good toasted tea cake needs 😂).
Service was prompt and friendly.
This was our second time here and we will definitely be back!
Edit April 23: returned this week and had the best Battenburg cake I’ve ever had, just delicious!
Good breakfast but execution wasn't the best.
Service from staff was good and they were friendly
The drinks were not the best. The orange juice tasted cheap and the coffee was quite weak.
The food arrived and some breakfast items that were meant to be removed weren't. The temperature of the beans and bacon were cold. This said the actual quality of the food was very good and tasted good.
The ketchup isn't Heinz which is a real let down imo. It matches the cheap orange juice.
The kitchen felt very chaotic so with a bit of fine tuning this would be 5*.
Very nice full English breakfast, with friendly service. The place was packed, and we were very lucky to get the last table for two - at 10:50am on a Friday, that just shows how popular the place is!
I don't like egg or tomato but they are part of the breakfast for those interested (and I'm sorry to have taken a bite out of the sausage before I thought to take the picture!).
Lunch options looked terrific for later, too.
Well worth a visit 👍
Visited this week following a lovely canal walk. The café is really well presented and the menu is very good with lots of choice from breakfast through to jacket potatoes sandwiches and pick slightly bigger meals. It was a short wait for the food to come out and it was hot and delicious. My only gripe is the very young white staff. The young girl who came to clear our table before we ordered, got a dry cloth and pushed all the waste food onto the floor. She did not completely wipe our table. We had to ask for it to be re-cleaned. On appearance, she looked like she had no skirt on , but it turned out to be gym shorts totally inappropriate workwear for public appearance. It is a shame that these young people are not properly trained to be presented to the general public life skills are so important.
Lovely cafe in a lovely location on the canal side in Bollington.
I had a BLT with chunky chips on the side and my wife had the soup of the day with focaccia. Our drinks came quite quickly and the food arrived not long afterwards, but we had ordered at a relatively quiet time. Friends joined us afterwards at peak time and their food took quite a while to arrive.
It was lovely sitting outside and watching people cycle and walk down the tow path. The food was delicious and I heartily recommend the chips! Sitting inside would have been a little warmer and the inside of the cafe is nicely set out.
I finished with another pot of tea and some cake which is 100% recommended - the Victoria sponge was delicious!
The main part of the cafe is up a set of steps which I don't think had wheelchair access, so disabled users might need to sit outside. Ok that's fair enough in it
Overall a good experience but perhaps avoid at the busiest times as the service was a little slow. Great food though!
Great little cafe. I highly recommend the Full English Breakfast. Friendly Staff
Lovely staff and great food. A little gem. I shall be back
Overall a pretty good cafe. Great location and the food is a good quality for the price. I've had mixed service experiences, but the last time was good so hopeful its improved.
Fabulous canal side cafe with delicious homemade food, we had the chicken wrap and falafel wrap followed by the clementine and almond cake which was lovely and moist😋. We found this wonderful cafe last year, end of July. It was so nice that we came back yday especially for lunch. We live near Chester. It was a lovely day out
Previously nice food, so returned.
Pleasant enough staff.
Noisy music which forced everyone to talk over that. Sensory overload!
Had to leave before ordering this time.
Edited - Response to owner's reply:
Far from being grateful for the truthful and mainly positive review, it's clear they're just interested fabulous only comments. Funny how the blame is shifted on to us for their loud music being an issue.
They'll do better to listen to their customers graciously rather than responding with 'let's have a dig back' sarcasm, when no 'dig' was intended only our part.
I'd have asked for the loud music to be turned down, if I could have attracted any staff.
First visit, great staff, atmosphere, and we enjoyed a bacon, and sausage balm, and 2 coffees
Nice place, next to the canal :) Just had a coffee, so can’t comment too much.
Lovely place, it's a great place to get a coffee half way on our dog walk. The lady who served us 1st thing Saturday, was so lovely.
