It may be pricey but it’s an extremely lovely location to eat indoors or out in the beautiful garden. Plenty of free parking and lovely grounds to wander in pre or post meal.
We had Sunday lunch and the food was just so beautiful. The beef tender, great sized portions and the service was attentive but not pushy.
We came here a few years ago and I am very happy to say it hasn’t changed.
5*
What an amazing pub/ restaurant. This place has it all , stunning grounds , the building is old with so many rooms high ceilings low ceilings , wood everywhere ,cosy rooms big rooms , stunning outside areas , we didn't eat today but the Sunday lunches looked lovely
This is probably one of my favourite pubs in the area. Lovely food, great atmosphere with lots of different rooms and areas for sitting.
Dog friendly and overall friendly and capable staff. Not far from the canal so a great place to stop for a drink if you're out on a walk. Highly recommended.
Great place for a drink (and food but we didn’t eat) on a sunny day. Garden is beautiful and well set out with picnic style tables.
Second time here for Sunday lunch and it did not disappoint. Bustling atmosphere but still quick and attentive service. Food was all piping hot and tasty. When staff were asked about extra gravy it was no problem with no extra charge. The Goan curry prawn starter was delicious. We'll be back.
Sutton Hall (RCI resort #0804):
My wife and I took a “step-back-in-time” vacation, to a gorgeous, Georgian-styled, English Manor House built around the 1720s. Sutton Hall is set in 24-acres of lush, manicured grounds, with woodlands and a meadow. This beautiful country estate is only about three miles east of Thirst, a lovely market town, and about 30 minutes from York.
We stayed here 10-years ago and jumped at the opportunity to return. The property is very nice and completely updated – even offers laundry facilities. Sitting on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, it offer unlimited vacation options – easy access to seaside resorts and fishing villages like Scarborough, Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby (best Fish & Chips ever at Magpie Café). Also, the nearby historic city of York, and the spectacular ruins of Rievaulx Abbey are but a short drive.
This resort is a no-brainer; gorgeous, in the middle of just about everything, but offers a return to a quiet, slower-paced and more-relaxed vacation experience. Just about anything you could want, you can find in The North. YOU make the choice, it’s all right here . . . at Sutton Hall in beautiful North Yorkshire.
Top marks to Laura and the team for making both myself and my guests welcome at my birthday party held yesterday. The food was excellent tasty and plenty of it. The room added to the friendly atmosphere. Laura's attention to detail made the day go smoothly and a most enjoyable time was had by all. Thank you.
Date of visit: Monday afternoon, Aug 22.

The staff, especially Laura, couldn’t do enough. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the roast beef (possibly the best I’ve ever had), everything cooked to perfection and the service was flawless from start to finish. Beautiful setting, well worth a visit
Several in our family are coeliac sufferers and it’s important to know which food items contain gluten. Sutton Hall (and all other Brunning and Price restaurants) have clearly marked menus with an extensive offering of gluten-free dishes. The staff are very knowledgeable about this and avoiding the risk of cross contamination. It’s super to be able to choose a meal and relax knowing that you can enjoy it safely without risk to your health. We enjoyed a great Sunday Lunch at Sutton Hall and will return!
