Absolutely wonderful vegan wedding reception! My husband and I held our reception at The Marquess of Exeter and I simply cannot praise the venue and it's wonderful staff highly enough for the celebration that they hosted for us. From the very first contact I made with the lovely manager Gill I knew this was going to be a great venue and when we came for lunch to try the food and to discuss our requirements it was obvious that it was perfect. The building and garden is absolutely gorgeous: quaint, charming, beautifully maintained and full of character. The taster lunch we had was delicious, plentiful and very reasonably priced. Any vegans/vegetarians in the area should definitely make an effort to visit this exceptional restaurant (ring and book to make sure the fabulous chef/owner Brian knows you're coming and can prepare something yummy to meet your dietary requirements!). Throughout the party planning process, especially in the very busy last couple of weeks before the wedding, Gill was exceptionally organised, helpful and understanding. On the day she, and all the staff, went above and beyond to make sure the reception ran perfectly smoothly. We had delicious canapes and punch out in garden. We then moved into the dining area which had been beautifully and thoughtfully decorated for the occasion. Here we had a superb meal of chilli, curry and accompanying vegetables followed by pavlova (with vegan meringue!) and sticky toffee pudding. To drink we had some delicious vegan wines. This was easily the best meal I have ever eaten and our guests, none of whom were vegan themselves were all surprised and delighted by how wonderful the food was. After the meal we had dancing, drinking and merriment till midnight when we all left with full bellies and full hearts. Thank you so much Gill, Brian and all at the Marquess. Whenever we are back in the area you can bet we'll be coming back for dinner!

Had Sunday lunch with family.... service was a little slow as it was very busy (although I had booked) but it was worth the wait! Artichoke starter was a treat, great attention to detail with the veggies that came with the roast (sugar snap peas, brussells and a lovely carrot and beetroot combination). All absolutely delicious. Friendly staff and a proper cosy country pub.

Me and my wife picked delicious plates. We loved it. Luciano and Ciro, close friends that were with us did not like theirs so much. Not what they expected. And they even showed some photos to see if the plate looked like what they were expecting. Guess I got lucky. Very good. Hanuman, the waiter that was with us was super nice. Thank you so much sir. Price a bit high but if you’ve got the money, very much worth the try.

Another of my 5 star gems. We have wanted to go for a while as we heard good things. Lovely and quaint old English pub with a choice of great traditional English food or Indian food with a twist. The twist being that the way its served is sophisticated and beautifully presented. Not only does it look good, it tastes amazing! I had the lamb korma which I'd recommend with tandoori prawn starter. Amazing. Great service and attentive staff. Well worth a visit and would recommend to all. Thank you for a wonderful evening 😊

I have a lot of nice things to say about this Inn/ restaurant so please bear with me 😊 The Inn is situated in the very lovely, rural, quiet main street village of Lyddington in Rutland. On the outside it looks like your typical village pub but inside there's a very pleasant twist. It has been under new ownership since spring 2022 combining traditional English country pub and a balancing touch of India. I use the term balancing as complete respect and importance has been given by the owner and management to traditional English village pub life so as not to alienate the locals with the introduction of a more exotic Indian/ English fusion. In my two stays I have yet to sample the traditional menu and have instead opted for the Indian menu so I can only go on and give a glowing report of the quality of the food on offer from that menu. The Indian food is the creation of award winning chef Krishnapal Negi from London with a menu of around 9 starters, a similar amount of main courses and half a dozen desserts with specials on offer too (£30 - £35 per head). Portions are not over sized but leave your stomach with a 'Just about the right amount' feeling which i think is important for a healthy night's sleep later. General Manager, Gaurav is a perfect front of house host, calm, polite, attentive and reassuringly in control. Tracey runs a tidy well stocked bar and has that immediate friendly warmth that draws you in making polite friendly conversation easy to have. The service is slick and all staff are friendly and obliging. Lovely little breakfast selection, once again, not over filling but just enough to kick start the day in the right manner. It is table service. Phew!... now the rooms... The 20 or so rooms are in a separate block to the Inn with some of them over looking land to the back. We've stayed in room 20 on both occasions and can describe the room as comfortable, spacious, light and airy, with an en suite bathroom. Colours are neutral with a feature wall and simple functional furniture and tea & coffee making facilities. Very peaceful with a small country view. Ample car parking around the site. Have loved the two stays so much, a third is already booked so I look forward to returning in a few months time 😊 I can't recommend highly enough as a venue for either a special meal in the restaurant or for a vacation/ meal stay over.

Fantastic authentic Indian cuisine, served with a smile and charm from Mr G and his excellent team. The rooms are in need of a bit of an update but comfortable. Perfect location for a week's work away.
