This was a lovely little find on a miserable Tuesday afternoon. The restaurant is lovely and has lots of tables and parking (although the car park needs some attention!)
The food was fresh, piping hot, and tasted delicious. There was a lunch time menu on which is great value for 2-3 courses. Lots to choose from too.
The young lady who served us was fantastic. She was friendly and chatty and couldn’t have done more for us.
She told us about the ceilidh band and the Sunday roast selection, so we are looking forward to returning for that. The cherry on the cake is that we can bring our dog too!
We made an unplanned visit to the Canny Man, We were greeted warmly and taken to our table, we both opted for Sunday roast with all the trimmings, the food was divine, the beef perfectly cooked as were the accompanying veg and Yorkshire pudding, all very well presented. I am such a fussy eater and usually have some sort of comment to make, the meal and service was flawless, we will definitely be returning.
Great Sunday Roast, healthy portions and the Yorkie puddings were great, Top side of beef was delicious, only downside gravy was very salty and not a great dessert choice, but overall very good and a great atmosphere with the live band on Sunday. Staff are all very nice also.
Scotch & Rib Eye. Fish and chips was good, really big portion of thick and long fish but I wasn't as keen on the batter, soft inside and not too crispy but too thick and tasted a little sweet and bready. Waiter was very friendly and efficient. Steak pie was delicious but slightly too much rosemary on the potatoes and vegetables.
Food and service were excellent. When we were there, it was reasonably quiet. This meant the atmosphere was pretty subdued.
Had a birthday party today and can't thank the staff enough. Great space. Lots of food. Extremely helpful staff.
Me and my partner went out for our anniversary today, went to the canny man,the service was brilliant, the food was top class,I would definitely recommend to anyone thank you to the staff.
Lovely, cosy, welcoming place, and the staff were great. Dog friendly too which was great as we're on holiday with our little dog Stevie for the first time so he was able to come for lunch with us! Thank you The Canny Man.
My partner and I popped in for lunch yesterday (03/04/2022) and had the 2 courses for £15 offer, to start I had the cheddar mushrooms on toasted sourdough which were absolutely delicious, my partner had haggis bon bons with peppercorn sauce which was equally delicious and the sauce was so good she was tempted to lick the plate, next up were the mains which if the starters were anything to go by were going to be amazing, I ordered the steak pie and my partner had the fish and chips, both staples of any pub in the land but also two favourites of ours, I can honestly say the steak pie was first class, beautifully rich with melt in the mouth beef, which interestingly was shin which is thought of as a cheaper cut as it requires long slow cooking, well the kitchen team obviously know their stuff as it was faultless, the fish and chips equally so with all the standard bits of mushy peas, a good homemade tartar sauce and pickled onions.
Service was spot on, the gentleman who served us was attentive without being intrusive, and was polite with just the right amount of banter.
All in all it was a great first visit and we will definitely be back again.
Only marked it down a bit on atmosphere because it was so quiet.
Can't believe it isn't much busier on a Saturday around 3 pm. The food is outstanding and reasonably priced for the standard.
Can't fault anything else in the great place to eat.
