Beautiful setting, beautiful food and really hospitable staff. It’s so nice to fall upon a genuine country pub, it’s extra special when that pub serves up stunning food. Highly recommend the stuffed chicken wrapped in bacon.

Food and accomodartion were perfect! We had a fantastic weekend, for our friends wedding, which the pub also catered for! The staff were also brilliant, and couldn't be more accommodating! Can't recommend this place enough.

Extremely welcoming and the best pub food I have ever tasted. Discovered this gem in the summer of 2002 and have eaten here over 350 times since then and I will be back in 2018.

Great local pub that served a home cooked meal. Booking essential especially at the weekend. Food was fantastic and did not have to wait long. Staff very friendly. Dog friendly as well.

What a cracking place, the staff are lovely. I stayed for the night in my camper, they have a great campsite, quiet and in a good location. With good food, warm and welcoming atmosphere and I will definitely be back, for a longer time next time. Thanks for a great stay 👍🏻

Hard to miss, (was a) mustard coloured pub, along the B5289, with splendid meals and local ales, and a large gin selection. Pleasant, pale green-blue tones accent the decor, plus soft lighting, with wooden tables and chairs spread across two sections, separated by the wood fire crackling away along a wall. The pub almost juts into the street, and a pretty river burbles along the other side of the road. Beer and food is sourced locally with a daily specials board ranging from about £12-19, plus gluten free options. My wife had an unctuous lamb shank on mash, smothered in Cumberland sauce, with a side of veg. I plumped for the 10oz sirloin steak loaded with fried mushrooms and onions, topped with Camembert, and including proper chips and a side salad; a mixture of greens, diced peppers, red onion, and nicely dressed with a balsamic glaze. Above average pub food, which was absolutely delicious, presented well, and went down nicely with their own Yan for the Hill ale. Service was good, and staff were friendly and welcoming; [they let us in early due to pelting rain] and overall, the pub has a cozy feel and little details are done well. Tends to fill up in summer, so you may need to book for meals. Free parking is located behind the pub, as is the beer garden. Look out for the beer festivals. Owners offer a range of nearby accommodations.

Good location, nice, cosy place. Staff are kind and helpful, attentive. There is a small car parking behind. Bar with a lot of drink, food is very nice, tasteful and delicious and big amount- we ate for starter filled jalapeno (spicy but not too spicy, tasted well, dressing was nice too and the salad was fresh), after roasted turkey, was with gravy, yorkshire puding, crunchy kale (tasted very well), broccoli and mash. Everything seemed fresh, and fresh cooked. Service was very good, i could ask "children portion", and was enough. My partner had full portion, that was a lot. Worth every penny. I am sure we go back soon. I recommend this place. We went there after walking- so about 5pm, was plenty of table that time, and the food arrived quickly. Sorry no photo before, i was too hungry. 😁

Visited here with the whole family and had great experience, all the food was delicious, freshly prepared and presented beautifully. All the staff were wonderful, friendly and accommodating. Good choice of specials and soup of the day available, the interior was super clean and cosy, log fire burning away quietly in the background was bliss, noticed there was a good outdoor terrace and benches if it was a sunny day, would be a perfect post walk stop off. Would highly recommend and surely be returning.

Had a lovely meal with 10 fussy eaters and we all cleared our plates. We had to book early and chose our food beforehand. They were very flexible on the food, which was needed. Staff couldn't have nicer and probably a reason we'll come back to the same accommodation.

Outrageously good Sunday lunch. We live in Keswick and it was recommended to us as we weren't impressed with local offerings. Couldn't fault it. Will certainly be back for more.

A great place just 5 minutes from where we stayed in Lorton valley. Having just arrived at our cottage that evening we hadn't booked a table but the staff were fantastic in getting us seated. Our only negative, and it's a piffling one, is that because we didn't book, the table we were given was at the far end of the pub away from all the atmosphere. The beef & ale pie with thick cut, crunchy chips was incredible. Definitely recommended. Very friendly staff, great selection of ales (go for the Cumberland if, like me, you enjoy blonde ale) and seriously good food.
