Absolutely fantastic. The food is amazing, the service was brilliant. We rang and booked our tables the day before, stated that my Wife is gluten and dairy free and that we wanted the lobster, Melanie (who owns the restaurant with her husband Mark who is the chef) said that's fine and could we pop in to put a deposit down, which is not a problem. We popped round to pay that evening and was greeted by Mark and Melanie who ask us exactly how we wanted our food cooked, what we wanted it with and where we would like to sit. My wife was told she she could have anything from the menu as he would adapt it to suit her dietary needs. I can not put into words just how welcoming they are and how great the food is and how nothing is to much trouble. I seriously recommend this place to anyone who's looking for that something a bit more special than the usual.

The ancient mariner is very nice seafood restaurant in Looe. Restaurant owner couple are warm welcome. Scallops are so big and fresh. Hake fish steak is perfect cooking. Fish and shellfish are daily come catch from sea.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal here last night. Fabulous hosts, lovely atmosphere and food that we cannot do justice in our description. Soft and tender fish, cooked to perfection with beautiful flavour. We had a couple of meals during the week we were there, and have to say it was fantastic. We have been here for the last 3 years and the standard never slips and have recommended friends and family that is you visit Looe

It is rare to get such personal care and attention in a restaurant. The owners made every effort to welcome and personalize our meals to ensure a wonderful experience. We turned up without a reservation on a night fully booked but let us in early. My son is a vegan and they still managed to adapt the menu at such short notice. The fish is caught that day and not frozen...this is the real deal. Highly recommended!

This restaurant is amazing!!! The food is beautifully and sensitively cooked with seafood caught locally on the day, the beef sourced from a farm two miles away as was the fruit and veg. The portion sizes are excellent as well. Truly a foodie's restaurant. Mark the chef, Hayley and Ellie were warm, friendly and attentive. They created a great evening for us. All in all an excellent dining experience, provided by a wonderful team. Philip & Bernadette.

if you are looking for a restaurant that serves fantastic food in a relaxed friendly environment, this is the restaurant for you. We chose to make our dinning experience last all evening and felt unhurried and welcome to relax and enjoy the evening. The food is top quality and beautifully cooked and served. Without a doubt 5star. Can’t wait to go back next year.

By far the best restaurant in Looe. A bold statement it is but it is truly warranted. We have been a few times now and the food and drink is absolutely spot on. The service is lovely too. A quaint and warm atmosphere with super friendly owners; they make you feel very welcome and at ease. A true gem hidden in looe that everyone needs to experience.

From the moment we walked through the door the very attentive owner made us feel very welcome and we knew we were in for something special. Confidence in waitresses/waitersis usually expresses as a result of fine foods and the ancient mariner didn’t disappoint. Every dish from starter through to the main corse and dessert were cooked and prepared to perfection. Wonderful food, wonderful people and wonderful setting. Highly recommended

A small restaurant which ticks every box when it comes to eating out; very friendly, welcoming staff, great intimate dining room, and most important the food was magnificent, the fish was so fresh it was almost flapping on the plate. Great place and we will definitely be returning.
