Puraan has become a local favourite of mine over the past few months and everyone I’ve dined there with has loved it too, both vegetarians and non-veggies alike. The staff are so welcoming, always warm, polite and on-hand to suggest or advise, and the food is always fresh and delicious with a really nice selection at very reasonable prices for the quality. I’d highly recommend and feel really lucky to have this place nearby.
We passed by the restaurant and we decided to go in as we were intrigued by the vegan Indian idea and it was absolutely the perfect choice because it was a delightful experience.
We've ordered samosa and fried okra as starters and 3 main dishes. All of them were delicious!
The service is very nice and friendly! It's the perfect mid week treat to find in the local area of Turnpike Lane.
The food here is really good!
We tried the Kerala paratha as suggested by the chef and it was the best we have had in years!
The gravies are yummy and the staff is nice.
Highly recommend this place Indian food in this area.
A selective menu means good quality food and we weren’t disappointed. Good job 👏
What a hidden gem of Kerala veg food in North London!! As a food enthusiast, it actually exceeded my expectation. It’s really tricky to find authentic Indian flavours in London and Puraan has nailed it!!
Loved almost everything- best being the crispy Dosa especially the Podi; and then the Parotha and Appams - absolutely amazing!
Ishtew was good but lacked the puch, but the aubergine curry was very flavourful. And then the dessert- although I’m not big fan of plantain but the fritter with coconut ice cream was so delish!
Top of all, the staff was very nice- very warm, welcoming, enthusiastic, serving with smile and a sense of pride in what they are offering.
Overall, great experience and would definitely recommend if you looking for authentic Kerala flavours!
Wow! What a gem. Amazing food (we loved the okra fries, chilli paneer and the aubergine curry in particular, but everything was delicious) and amazing service. The decor is also lovely and they couldn’t do more to help us out and were really passionate about the cuisine. I’d highly recommend this place, it’s BYOB, well priced and so delicious. we were a large group of 14 and they were super accommodating! A new favourite restaurant for us I think!
A Gastronomic Delight
If you are on the lookout for an exquisite culinary experience that tantalizes your taste buds and leaves you yearning for more, Puraan Restaurant in Turnpike Lane is an absolute must-visit. As a food enthusiast, I had the pleasure of dining at this establishment recently along with my friend and I must say that my taste buds were taken on an unforgettable journey.
Ambience:
The moment you step into Puraan, you are greeted with a warm and inviting ambiance. The decor is elegantly understated, creating a cozy and relaxed environment. The restaurant is spacious, yet it maintains an intimate setting, making it an ideal place for both a romantic dinner and a gathering with friends or family.
Service:
The service at Puraan is impeccable. The staff members are attentive, courteous, and knowledgeable about the menu offerings especially “Basil”. They take pride in ensuring that each guest is treated with utmost care and that their dining experience is nothing short of exceptional.
Cuisine:
Now, let's talk about the highlight of the evening – the food! I started with the CRISPy ghee dosa, and it was an absolute delight. The dosa was thin, perfectly crisp, and had a delightful golden hue, hinting at the generous use of pure ghee. The accompanying chutneys and sambar complemented the dosa flawlessly, adding an explosion of flavors to the already amazing dish.
For the main course, I opted for the vegetarian biryani, and I can confidently say that it was one of the best biryanis I have ever tasted. The aromatic basmati rice was cooked to perfection and layered with a medley of fresh vegetables that include beans carrot, broccoli and fragrant spices. Each bite was a harmonious blend of textures and tastes, leaving me enchanted by the symphony of flavors.
Portions:
The portion sizes at Puraan are generous, ensuring that you leave the restaurant fully satisfied
Price:
Considering the overall experience, the prices at Puraan are reasonable. The exceptional quality of the food, is justified for the prices on the menu

I would say this Restaurant in Turnpike Lane is a culinary gem that deserves every bit of praise it receives. Whether you are a fan of South Indian delicacies like the CRISPY ghee dosa or crave the aromatic splendor of a vegetarian biryani, Puraan will leave you captivated and craving for more.

So excuse me for the empty dishes ….that was a biryani bowl Empty
What an excellent place!! Love the food, full of flavours and for those who can't handle spicy food you can eat it without worry. There is plenty of delicious food! The environment is cosy, and the staff is very welcoming. 100% recommended. I would love to come back.
Some of the best food around this area!! Very fresh ingredients, complex flavors, creative dishes, and really kind service. I'm becoming a regular here. Great value as well.
Absolutely delicious vegan food!
Aubergine & plantain curry was our favourite dish , but every dish we had was very tasty and unique.
The paratha we also had was the best I have ever tried, fresh, crunchy and fluffy!
Service was lovely and personal too. Really enjoyed and will now be a regular
I came here with my partner saw it was BYOB with no fee!
From the moment we got there the staff were so friendly and went above and beyond. Giving us a bigger table as soon as one was available (there were only the 2 of us.)
Our server made recommendation after recommendation, even giving us free home made banana chips and bread!
As a queer couple we felt so welcomed into the space our service even said how nice of a couple we were.
The food was the best Indian food I’ve ever tasted, with original creative dishes you can’t find at your local Indian take out. Extremely authentic and exiting. And as it was all vegetarian/vegan, it’s was heaven as a vegan being in Puraan.
We were there till closing and no one rushed us out, instead the lovely manager stayed chatting with us.
Felt like having dinner at your family’s house, best restaurant experience I’ve had.
Thank you for the great hospitality we will be back ^_^ 🙏🏼
