SO impressed by the quality of food at materia lab! I live around the corner and don’t know this hidden gem existed & I’m so glad I discovered it. Had two pasta dishes and both had incredible flavors - best pasta I’ve had in SW London. On top of that, super friendly staff. Will definitely be revisiting!
A great brunch place and well worth a visit - the food is perfect, ingredients tasty and fresh, and the coffee fantastic. We had a fresh focaccia on top - gorgeous. Friendly staff too. They were making fresh pasta when we walked past once so we’ll definitely be back for the evening menu one day as well. Lovely.
Materia lab delivered some catering for a birthday party at my house. They were a pleasure to work with, happy to tweak the menu several times to my preferences and budget, and most importantly the food was delicious. The servings were very generous so we had lots of tasty leftovers to enjoy
Amazing dinner experience in this newly opened restaurant. If you're looking for true Italian food with a fine dining touch, look no further. The photo is a burrata cheese with orange jelly and a fennel salad, which was outstanding. I also had pappardelle with a lamb chocolate ragout, and it was great too! Hoping to come back very soon
Materia Lab 2.0 is a Balham hidden gem! Authentic Italian food, from appetizers to dessert the quality is exceptional for a reasonable price. Must try and super recommended
Excellent Italian food - especially the pastas. Innovative and beautifully plated. Ambiance is very casual, definitely not a date night or posh night type of place. Service was fast and efficient. Go for octopus sphaghetti, and the cod main. Both were delicious. Book via TheFork to secure a table (listed space) and get discounts.

Food was really good but the atmosphere and layout let it down - was a very strange vibe. Had it not been 50% off it would have been very expensive for a food hall meal. I really do hope it becomes a success in Balham, staff were lovely.
Great food and great service. We had the veal roll, lamb ragu and a beef dish and all were top quality. It’s clear that a lot of effort goes into the prep and everything tastes fresh as well as unique! The restaurant is in a simple pop up style setting, with bright lights rather than a fine dining feel but that did not takeaway from the quality of the food. Will recommend to others.
Like someone said before an HIDDEN GEM , had to write it with capitals as they are hidden and won’t be easily found. Amazing homemade Italian food treated with care and love. Not sure if I can describe it well but will return as soon as possible as this type of cooking is not found even in those said fancy Italian places. Amazing.
Don't be fooled by the location. The food is very good and freshly made
Food was amazing, however the ambience was horrible. As it's in a foodhall (which wasn't advertised like it) it was very loud, you're not able to speak to the people at your table. Multiple doors as well, which make it very windy and cold. Don't go there in winter.

Gutted this place is closing down, one of the best Italian restaurants in South London. Excited for their comeback.
