After several takeout experiences, finally made it for dine-in, and I must say, nothing beats the flavors straight from the kitchen!
šø Braised Pork Belly
The six pieces of braised pork belly melt in mouth, leaving a rich and savory sauce that's absolutely tempting.
š„ Shanghai Soup dumplings
Each dumpling is like a burst of umami, perfectly paired with vinegar. The thin-skinned buns are filled with a generous amount of soup, with a blend of crab and pork filling thatās irresistibly juicy!
š Shepherd's Purse and Bamboo Shoots
It's rare to find such tender bamboo shoots, which, when combined with the shepherd's purse and a perfectly blended sauce, make a must-try dish thatās off the charts!
š Braised Intestine Noodles
Lastly, my delightful surprise ā the braised intestine noodles. The intestines are soft and gelatinous, and the broth is rich and flavorful, making for an unforgettable taste experience.
As a Shanghainese studying here in London, this is my go-to place when I need the comfort of hometown flavours. Ordered six dishes and loved every single one of them. Reasonably priced and easy to visit (2-3 minutes walk from the British museum), highly recommend it to any one who want to have a taste of Shanghainese cuisine
I had dinner here last weekend. I was born in Shanghai and I can assure you this is a very authentic Shanghai family restaurant. The food there was scrumptious and full of surprise . Living in the UK for over 10 years, I was searching for proper xiao long bao ( steamed pork dim sum). And this was the best I have ever had! Really glad that this is the restaurant which can make me feel back at home.
This restaurant is just a two to three-minute walk from the British Museum, making it perfect for a meal after a museum visit. I've tried their braised pork belly before, which is an authentic Shanghai dish. This time, I ordered a Mix Steamed Dim Sum Platter, along with a Stir-frled Shredded Pork with Pepper & Sliced Beancurd. The flavors were spot on. I'll definitely come back again.
This Traditional Shanghai Restaurant has left the best impressions! Hospitable hosts, delicious dishes, I recommend to everyone! The waiter's were very attentive, it's been a long time that i have such great experience service!
I went to eat at this restaurant two days ago. The braised pork belly and steamed shanghai Pork Xiaolongbao are my must-orders. The amount of braised Pork Knuckle is large, well-cooked and delicious. Highly recommended!
This Shanghai restaurant, located in the heart of London, is known for bringing nostalgic flavors of home. On the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, I met with a friend from Zhejiang here, and it felt like we had reunited with the tastes of our respective hometowns in the Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai regions. The restaurant enjoys a prime location, situated near the British Museum, making it easily accessible.
The dishes served here are authentic and brimming with the flavors of Jiangnan, evoking feelings of homesickness.
Shanghai Braised Pork Belly: A classic Shanghai dish featuring tender pork belly cooked in a rich, sweet, and savory sauce, reminiscent of the rich history of old Shanghai, leaving a lasting impression.
Braised Spring Bamboo Shoots: Delicate spring bamboo shoots cooked in a light, non-greasy oil, providing a fresh and crisp taste, much like the early spring scenery of Jiangnan.
Shanghai Soup Dumplings: Exquisite, bite-sized dumplings filled with flavorful broth and meat, with thin, silky skins, akin to the morning tea enjoyed in the misty alleyways of Jiangnan.
Onion and Pig Intestine Pot: The combination of tender pig intestine and sweet onion in a hot pot, reminiscent of the pastoral landscapes of Jiangsu, evokes deep feelings of nostalgia for one's hometown.
This restaurant is like a glass of potent hometown liquor, offering a taste that lingers in one's memory. It's especially suitable for gathering with friends and family during the Mid-Autumn Festival to savor the delicious flavors of Southeastern China.
I had an absolutely delightful experience at this Chinese restaurant! From the moment I stepped in, the ambiance was inviting and authentic. The menu offered a wide array of mouthwatering options, and I couldn't resist trying several dishes.
Staff greeted me with lovely smiles and were very tentative throughout my whole time at the restaurant, very quick and efficient whilst still being friendly. Food came out pretty quick and everything was really tasty, the pork belly was literally 10/10. Will definitely be coming back
The delicious flavors of Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Shanghai cuisine can be found in London at Da Hu Ren Jia. Known for its balanced and diverse taste profile, this restaurant places a strong emphasis on preserving the authenticity of its ingredients while infusing unique elements of sweetness, sourness, saltiness, and spiciness. It's a culinary experience that leaves a lasting impression. Situated in an ideal location, Da Hu Ren Jia is conveniently near the British Museum and within easy reach of UCL, KCL, and LSE.
Food from Zhejiang, China, has traditional tastes. The two of us were very full with three dishes. Recommended braised pork, xiaolongbao, and kung pao chicken. Ā£35 per person. I like this Chinese food.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Shanghai Family Chinese Restaurant in Holborn. The restaurant is located in a convenient spot, just a short walk from Holborn Station. The interior is spacious and nicely decorated, with a warm and inviting atmosphere.
I had the stir fry beef with ginger and spring onions. The beef was cooked perfectly, tender and flavourful, with the ginger and spring onions added a nice touch of freshness and complimented well with the boiled rice.
The service at the Shanghai Family Chinese Restaurant was good. The waitress was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. She made some great recommendations, and was happy to answer any questions I had.
Overall, I had a wonderful lunch experience at the Shanghai Family Chinese Restaurant. The food was delicious, the service was good, and the atmosphere was inviting. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for nice Chinese food in Holborn.
Really happy with the dining experience here at Shanghai Family. I have been wanting to see a good Shanghainese restaurant in London for years and here it arrived.
I ordered Sweet and Sour Sea Bass, Huadiao Drunken Chicken, Stir-fried Crab with Sliced Rice Cake. Each of the dishes brought out distinctive flavours, and the authentic tastes bring me back to my childhood (I grew up in a city near Shanghai).
It was a good choice to start with Drunken Chicken as it refreshed my palate. The sea bass dish was the most pricey dish but worthwhile - me and my friend could not stop eating that dish (with rice) and we literally finished it first thing! Crab and rice cake dish was a comforting one as it was soft and smooth...
The interior is clean and hygiene was excellent.
Only 6 minutes' walk from Holborn station and close to the British Museum and various universities. Next time I am gonna try it after checking out the museum.
Authentic Shanghainese cuisine, everything is tasty. Xiao Long Bao is so good ļ¼strongly recommendedļ¼ļ¼
I am missing Songshu Fishļ¼sweet sour fishļ¼for a long time. Finally I found it here. It is pretty tasty, sweet sour and crispy. I tried steamed buns and Sichuan num spicy kidney, all very tasty. Steamed buns are very traditional Shanghai style. The price is slightly higher than average but the taste is very traditional Chinese. š
OMG! This is the most authentic Shanghai Chinese food I've ever had in London. It almost feels like a family restaurant but with great taste and no compromise to quality! I would really recommend it if you have not been there yet!
A new restaurant focusing on Shanghai cuisine in London.
It has a very convenient location, close to Tottenham court road.
The environment of the restaurant is nice, bright and clean.
Want to recommend the tempura prawns, tofu and pomfret. Looks like the photo and tastes authentic
The combination of food is the best! The location is also close to the station, so it is suitable for enjoying team meal. There are so many perfect foods to eat with beer! Personally, I recommend a dish with pork in it! The price is reasonable, and the staff is very kind. It was hard to decide the menu because I wasn't Chinese, but I got a lot of help! I'll visit you again
Great authentic Shanghai food, deeply loved by real Shanghai people in London. Which is very rare in UK.
I read all the reviews here before went to Shanghai Family. As the price looked a bit higher than some casual Chinese restaurants, I didnāt want any disappointment. The experience turned out to be GREAT.
As a person spent early childhood in Shanghai, and always go back for Shanghai food, this is the most authentic Shanghai food Iāve ever had in London in 10 years. My EVERY Shanghai friend agree with that.
The trollsā reviews are ridiculously funny, like a joke. They seems either being too ignorant to know anything about Shanghai food, or they got a problem reading the menu and the price before eating, way too different than normal bad reviews, if you know what I mean;) 1 for Shanghai Family, 0 for the shady competitors.
We ordered way too much, so I packed some to take away, normally it would cost Ā£30-40 a person to have a good amount of food, but if you want some specialty food with uncommon ingredients, itās for sure more expensive, but worth the price, as you canāt get anything as good anywhere else in London. If you really want to go but still concern about the price, go as a group, so you can taste more dishes and pay less :)
