Delightful local pub in Hackney, friendly chilled staff. Easy to get a seat indoors or outdoors in the nice shady garden. The food is very tasty and the chips are always piping hot! Tons of beers on tap and if wine is your thing decent selection there too! If you’re in the hood stop by the axe, you won’t regret it!

Love the Axe. Superb beer range covering a whole host of styles: pales, sours, stouts from mainly independent breweries. They also run two cask lines. It has a great atmosphere too: light and airy by day, cosy and comforting by night. The roasts on Sunday are great too. A great choice for any beer or pub lovers out there.

Came here last week and was really impress by the Sunday roast prepared here. I was quite glad the roasted beef were cooked perfectly medium rare and was really loving it! I could take a photo of the dish with beef itself but didn’t get chance to. The Yorkshire puddings was stunning and really loving this. I would recommend people to come here to those planning to visit.

This little pub looks aweful from the outside but is amazing inside. The selection of craft beer is really good. The beer garden is super sweet and really cosy. The best part is the staff, quite young but really pro and caring. I'm a fan of the place now!

Sunday Lunch - yummy. Fabulous rare roast beef, brilliant Yorkshire puds. Belly pork with crackling - melt in the mouth with great crispy crackling, apple sauce tasted homemade and was gorgeous. A side of cauliflower cheese, just right. Downs? The roast potatoes were very hard, beyond crisp. I thought it was my knife but all 6 of us had same problem. Tasty gravy but charging £2 for a small pot of extra gravy we felt a bit stingy. The accompanying carrots and broccoli just a tad undercooked for some. No one wants soggy veg but thick broccoli stems needed just a bit more. Really good horseradish sauce went with the beef. Only one of us (me) could manage a pud. The sticky toffee pudding was so delicious, plenty of toffee sauce and generous scoop of ice cream. Certainly can't fault the portion sizes on the mains or dessert. So £193 for 6 (mains @ £20, pud £6.50, extra for gravy and cauliflower cheese, 2 rounds of diet cokes and 2 pints) I thought very reasonable. The place quickly filled up and my son said that booking is advisable as most Sundays it is full. I think deservedly so. It was overall very good. There is no signage out front to indicate that it was The Axe but google maps took us straight there. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Very good chicken salad with baby potatoes, chicory and piccalilli. Pork bap also great. This bar has a nice, dark ambience, and with its frequently changing board full of beers, is a hidden gem.

Great pub, used to live nearby and always liked it here so travelled across London just for that Sunday roast. Best roast dinner I've had in London, and the beer choice is always great with 10+ beer on tap so you always find a beer you will like.

Big choice of beers that changes every now and then. The Sunday roast are good and the small patio/garden is nice. Good service and nice staff. Less noisy than other pubs on the main road.

Brilliant craft beer and cider pub. Open and bright with a beautiful beer garden. Tasteful decor and friendly, knowledge staff. The manager is passionate about the craft selection and recommended an excellent ale and a dry cider to me. I hope to try the food.

Visited The Axe for the first time on Saturday with my children for our monthly meet up the first one of 2022. It was a great choice. The location, the atmosphere, the food (some of it) was really good. I would recommend it and would return again. James who greeted us/served us was hospitable and pleasant, the young lady behind the bar was really friendly. The staff/service was cool. The Pork and Stilton sausage roll slices with pear chutney were delicious 😋 not so the cod wrapped in bacon, with crushed new pots and lettuce... I'm not even sure that's what the description was on the menu but that's what I saw and tasted😔 when I my daughter asked me to try it. The whole plate just needed seasoning and some acidity...sorry guys but my son did love the Buttermilk Chicken Burger. That Honeycomb ice cream was delish too.

Really good selection of beer. Alcoholic and non alcoholic. The food (I had small plates) was also really tasty. There is a cute outside seating area, and a covered seating bit - like a fancy out house with lots of seating.

2 words: SUNDAY. ROAST. Incredible, with all the options you can ask for (vegan too) - cauliflower cheese that you'll see in your dreams You got the idea? Favourite roast spot in London! Whenever I want to treat myself with one I always come back here :) They also have a great selection of beer you can have in the back garden!

Decent roast but nothing special. Good range of beers but a bit annoying that some of our orders never materialised.

One of the best lamb pub roasts I’ve ever had including in Australia. A generous serve of 12hour slow cooked lamb served with all the trimmings, yorkies, roast potatoes, braised peas, gravy, mint sauce. Top notch feed! The mulled cider was also spot on.
