We really liked it here. Food & the service was excellent. Decent portions. We had a starter between us, 2 mains & shared a desert+ 2 glasses of wine & it was £58. Tip wasn't included. Only small 'annoyance' was I asked for a little pot of gravy which they gave me but added 50p on the bill!?
Absolutely love this place. Have visited twice now, the second time for Burns Night and the waitress remembered me without me saying anything, which was so sweet. Really great, friendly service and lovely, warm atmosphere but the food itself is even more of a draw. First time round I had the haggis with black pudding mash and peppercorn sauce - the ultimate combo, amazing pairing of flavours, so warming and delicious. Luckily was able to order this as a starter portion for my second visit so I didn’t get fomo (although was still very generous and filling!). Smoked sausage also very tasty, plus visited with a veggie friend and we were pleasantly surprised at how many plant options there were on the menu - that were of equal quality and taste. Reasonably priced too especially given the prime location, a must visit!!
My friend recommended Makars Mash Bar and we went for dinner.
The restaurant looks beautiful in the nice and warm light, with comfy seats, and very friendly staff.
The food looks and tastes superb, so are the drinks. There are various choices on the menu and we are surrounded by the happy 😊 voices and smiles ☺.
It is a wonderful experience and we certainly would come again.
Happy New Year! ✨️🎊💃🏻
Lamb, beef and sausages! Mashed potatoes are the perfect match too. It doesn't matter what flavoring your Mashed potatoes is because the sauce of the dish just drowns this out. We actually discovered this in their Edinburgh. The London outlet just gave us a second reason to eat their food again!
What a wonderful place to visit with truly wonderful and hearty food for a great and affordable price! We visited when we were in Edinburgh and were so excited to see another was coming to London!
The staff were incredibly kind, polite and welcoming, the food tasted amazing and whole experience was a wonderful evening. It's a little bit of Scotland here in the capital and I can't wait to see what new additions are added to the menu in the future!
Will most definitely be returning with friends who now also want to try out this fantastic dinner destination!
Makars mash bar round 2. After visiting the restaurant in Edinburgh and absolutely loving it, I was delighted to see on Instagram that they were bringing a restaurant closer to home. I brought my parents along with me this time as well and they absolutely loved it. I ordered the chicken in whiskey, peppercorn and mustard sauce with cheese and chive mash. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce complimented the chicken so well. The cheese and chive mash was to die for, and the mash was stringy which showed the perfect amount of cheese in it. I fell in love with the sticky toffee pudding last time as well and couldn’t not get it again in the London restaurant.
It gets busy so a reservation is recommended. I found the mash tasty albeit not a lot. It’s an expensive meal for what it is - mash and a protein. The sticky toffee pudding was a stand out though. The service was great. We had to wave for our waitress every time we needed something - there wasn’t really a proactive effort to check on us.
A brilliant restaurant that I'm very happy to now have in London! First visited the Edinburgh branch in early 2022 so was very excited to visit the London branch closer to home! The food is superb and just as good as in Edinburgh. Excellent service, great location and good value! We had the beef with bacon and spring onion mash and the Oyster mushrooms with chedder and chive mash! Both were superb, the beef was so tender and the gravy on both was perfect! We also had the sticky toffee pudding and Chocolate brownie for desert which were great! Excellent choice of whiskeys too at very good prices! Overall a great addition to the dining options in and around Covent Garden and can't wait to return!
My favourite place on London😍
Fell in love with it in Edinburgh and glad that they open one in London too!
Haggis is great here! And the toffee pudding is must try :)
We dined at Makar's on a Friday evening with a reserved table, we were greeted warmly and shown to our table where the menu was briefly explained (you get mash with everything basically so choose that once you know what main you want!).
The menu is a great mix of traditional favorites including of course, HAGGIS! We got ourselves a wee dram and ordered, the food both starters (for me Soup of the day, for my partner a scotch egg) were great and served up super quick, the mains we both went for the haggis which was rich, the mash was creamy and the whole thing came with a generous portion of gravy and veg. Really good, highly recommended.\
We opted for more whiskey and a boozy desert of ice cream with Scottish tablet and a shot of baileys which was very tasty.
Service throughout was fast and friendly, the restaurant was busy enough to feel like you weren't dining alone but not so busy that it felt over crowded.
My only complaint, they don't take amex - (I'm a points fiend I like my air miles!)
Other than that go and visit them TODAY.
Super-tender beef and good mash; amazing waitresses (gratuities are up to you, also available on card payment, be generous!). I have to visit again to try their sausages and sticky toffee pudding; fruit crumble was sadly not memorable. Highly recommended for tourists, much healthier than fried food.
Having enjoyed eating at the Edinburgh branch my expectations were high when it arrived in London. And they were exceeded in every way - the food (skirlie and black pudding mash, followed by a chocolate brownie) was beyond delicious, and the service prompt and friendly. Would thoroughly recommend!
Amazing food again. Cannot recommend enough . Our fifth visit to the London branch. Still my favourite pre show meal
Had a great 3 courses here. Scotch egg to start, followed by Sausage and Mash then a Brownie with ice cream to finish.
Andrea & Kristina provided excellent service throughout the course of the evening.
A family restaurant kinda spot with the second best kind of potato (fries being number one and nowhere on the menu). The menu is pretty straightforward: get some sort of meat or veggie main atop a variety of flavored mashed potatoes. I got the oyster mushroom with Irn Bru BBQ sauce over cheddar/chive mash and regretted how loyal the Scots are to their second national drink. It was noticeably tangy, but somewhat appropriate for cutting through the starch. The menu says it and I think it's true, the mash would've been great all by itself. There are bites of the mash so cheesy that the string hangs from the fork as you pull it out like pizza. Glad I tried it.
Excellent restaurant that my colleague and I picked because it had both great looking meat dishes as well as interesting vegetarian options. We were not disappointed as the food was great and well presented on the plate and the staff was very nice and helpful. Service was quick. Will go back. On the picture: beef haggis.

Best place to eat in the area of Leicester Square, great for Soho too. Fantastic food, outstanding staff and great prices. Dishes have a home cooked inspiration but with lots of added flair. Needs six stars.
Unbelievable!! If you like mashed potatoes you are in the right place.
Best restaurant for me in London
I had the most beautiful haggis of my life today. The moat of peppercorn sauce was the perfect touch to this mountain of food.
Each main comes with a choice of 1 of their sides of mash. I hope they start offering a flight of mash so I can try them all and not look like some weirdo in there with table of mash 😅. 3 portions for a tenner would make me mashed potato dreams come true.
BTW if you're vegetarian or gluten they've got you covered.
I'll be back to try the beef with horseradish mash!
