We dined here last Sunday evening after deciding we wanted something different to the usual. We chose a seat at the bar overlooking the kitchen so we could watch the action. We were in for a treat! The service was fantastic, the kitchen staff were friendly and the food was fantastic! (Funnily enough, as two unashamed meat lovers, our favourite dish was the aubergine!) The only fault, that caused us to cut the evening short, was an over-friendly, single, male customer who became too touch-feely and constantly interrupted our conversation. Next time we'd ask to move spots but we will definitely return as the restaurant is great!
100% legit. The best Japanese restaurant that I’ve ever encountered in my Life. The Salmon was impeccable and very tender. Abi who served us was very accomodating, tolerated our singing session while having a great time and having dinner, she made our visit really fun and awesome, served the food accordingly and quickly. Water always refilled time to time which was very great.
Met some friends at this place on Saturday night. Couldn't try out the food because the kitchen was closed. The manager told us about the bar, Zoku, downstairs. It was small but a great vibe. The DJ was jamming and the drinks were top tier.
Tonight (a Monday night), I finally had dinner here, and it was great. The pork dumplings, ribeye, and broccoli dishes I had were excellent. I do recommend this place. The saff is friendly and makes you feel welcomed. When I am back in London, I will hit this place back up
Stopped by for a couple of small plates and a beer.
Initial experience wasn’t great as we felt ignored while waiting to be served. A quick acknowledgement makes all the difference.
Once seated the service did improve immensely.
Food was all tasty.
We chose a table looking out of the windows for people watching, which was fun.
All in all a decent experience.
Was an excellent service. We are from Argentina and we never try Chinese food . Rafael ,the head cooker , kindly explain every part of the menu and also recommend us . He was incredibly kind as all of their partners . We are going to came back surely
Yatay is a new Japanese restaurant on Wardour that replaced Ichibuns. It seems to be an improvement on what was there before. The food was really good. I enjoyed everything we ordered. Unfortunately service wasn’t up to the same standard and dishes came out slowly as another party was there. We had to ask for the same things a number of times, e.g. water and help with sorting out our wobbly table (we asked for both things at least 3 times). I enjoyed the food so much that I’m really hoping the service was a one-time issue, as I would like to go back.
A hidden gem in Chinatown London. They specialises in skewers and the taste of the food were amazing. One thing that is disadvantage is the price of the food. However, since it tasted so good, it is worth coming for the skewers. Good to come for beer and have a snack.
This was a pleasant experience. The welcoming was nice and even though we had a reservation, it wasn’t too crowded when we came, around 15:00.
The blondish lady at the reception was very friendly. She elevated the experience with her spirit.
We had the following:
- Edamame: tasted good, might use a little kick but I enjoyed it
- Ebi Gyoza: these were nice but no the best so far
- Gyu Gyoza: those were really good and very recommended
- Gyu: we had ours medium well. Some part were very chewy, some were good
- Grilled Monkfish: This dish was really good. I added some wasabi with it and it really gave it an extra kick of taste. Very recommended for seafood lovers
My friend Tony is a chef here and I ordered everything he recommended. Got so much food and even got some dishes for free. Pork and chicen skewers for my favourite. Shiso tempura was also unlike anything I’ve ever had.
It was really enjoyable, everything we ordered was very tasty. In fact ordered a second portion of the wakame salad. And the tea served in their charming tea pots were beautiful. Service was good and efficient.
Excellent mid-priced Japanese option for anyone in the heart of London’s West End! It’s not trying to be a super fancy Zuma-type place, but it actually reminded me of several places we went to in Japan itself, which is definitely a good thing! We sat at the counter to watch all the kitchen action but there is also a bar downstairs and a slightly quieter area upstairs. We enjoyed all the dishes we had (I would go for gyozas or robata skewers over sashimi any day, but that is always my personal preference). Also liked the Dirty Fries and the mushroom & egg rice, and the desserts too. And very friendly service made it a lovely evening.
4.5 hours trip from Manchester to London to experience at Yatay was well worth it. The food was amazing and the staff provided exceptional service and treated us like family. Highly reccommend for food. Plus the Zoku bar in the basement is a MUST after a meal to enjoy really good drinks 🍹and music 🎶 🎵
Absolutely delicious food! We stumbled across this place last night and so glad we did. We felt transported back to our time in Japan with the food. We had pretty much half of the menu and each dish was beautifully presented, packed with flavour and well balanced. The prawn dumplings were the best I’ve had in the UK and the baos were also a favourite. Cocktails were also really good and had a great atmosphere located in the centre of China town. Service was impeccable, will definitely return next time I’m in London.
Good food. Great service. A bit speny if you’re getting alcohol too but it’s worth it. There’s a lovely bar downstairs with music. Definitely recommend if in central
Beautiful place, amazing food, fantastic staff! A wonderful gem in the heart of Chinatown with a great vibe. We finished our meal having dessert by the open kitchen, what a treat! Definitely a must-go in London!
We LOVED it! We got to the restaurant by mistake, and we had such a good time.
The restaurant design is amazing, the dishes were delicious and the service was the best (special thanks to Gabriella).
We really recommend this place!
Went here with a friend for a pre theatre meal on a Saturday evening. Menu great for meat eaters and vegans alike. Interesting and exciting food and drinks menu.
Very attentive service with personality and a genuine care for our experience.
The food was excellent. Full of flavour, intricate and clearly made with care and passion.
Yatay is something a unique for the area in which it is located. If you love Japanese food or want to try something a little different yet authentic, definitely get booked!
