Reviews Trattoria Brutto

Not sure where to begin... On a Wednesday evening it was packed which goes to show the popularity. I loved every second. The seating was a bit cramped but it certainly added to the atmosphere. We opted for 3 courses and each was as fantastic as the next. The sign of a good local restaurant offering fresh food was that you had to see what was still available. We opted for the steak as a main course, and luckily they had enough left for us. It was delicious. The wine equally as delicious and we opted for a bottle of Chianti which was rich and fruity. Service with a smile, relatively fast and the ingredients were definitely local and traditional Italian affair. I loved every second, and I really don't say that about many restaurants. What an absolutely hidden gem of a restaurant. I've read some of the negative reviews and I can't really understand their point. Just because it has old school chequered table clothes, it means something? Take it for what it is and you won't be disappointed. This isn't haute cuisine, this is traditional Italian comfort food in a lively and atmospheric setting. Highly recommended

Hidden gem, completely bustling at 2:30pm on a Saturday down an alleyway in Farringdon. Great menu and friendly service. Loved the ambience and the food. Get the £5 negroni to start and share lots of plates. Affogato to finish is a must!

Truly fantastic Italian restaurant. Definitely on the noisier side during lunch time. Loved the rabbit pasta, and the apple tart as well. The service was friendly, but also quite efficient.

What a fabulous place! Delightful service and food in an idyllic venue. Such a refreshing and authentic breath of Tuscan air. The expertly curated guest experience and the level of attention from the servers made me believe for a moment I wasn’t in London anymore - or, at the very least, Brutto has raised the bar for the other restaurants of London. I will definitely be back and I will be telling everyone I know. (Beef stew and pasta was great, blown away by how considerate the menu is for gluten free folks, only criticism would be my friend said the courgette dish was bland/underwhelming)

This was a highly acticipated meal for me and my friends, and we were not disappointed... Until the dessert came. The starters (deep fried dough, chicken liver toasts, and pork tonnato) were delicious and a great way to begin the meal. Our pastas (rabbit & lemon pappardelle, tortellini in pork broth, gnocchi in pauper's sauce, and pork & sage pappardelle) were perfectly cooked and has loads of flavour. The pasta's texture hints to them being freshly made and cooked. I personally could've eaten 2 plates myself. I then was extremely excited for dessert. I ordered a tiramisu, a must have in any Italian restaurant for me, and hazelnut cookie meringue with ice cream. I started with the ice cream. The hazelnut cookie meringue was interesting; I did not know what to expect but I did enjoy it. The ice cream, however, was very watery. It was actually quite disappointing. I feel like the quality of the restaurant deserved to have better ice cream. It should also have been gelato. But that's fine. I'll move on to my tiramisu. Wow. Was I even more disappointed. The tiramisu costs £9. I expected it to be of high quality. I'll be honest. I expected it to be lady finger biscuit with balanced touch of coffee, fresh mascarpone filling, and a healthy dose of cocao. While the filling and cocao was up to spec, the biscuit was substituted with, what I assume, layered cake. It was a super soggy bottom and I wasn't able to differentiate different textures when I took a bite. I'll be honest, I think I would've struggled to tell the difference between Sainsbury's tiramisu and Brutto's tiramisu. I do wish I didn't have dessert and had another pasta, so I would've left with a much better experience. I genuinely wish the chef take a close look at their desserts and see if they can make it better, because I would happily pay £9 for a mind blowing tiramisu.

I came here for the first time a year or so ago, at the peak of the hype around this Florentine themed restaurant from the famed restaurateur Russell Norman. I was underwhelmed. Not so at a recent lunch, where I was fully engaged with a knock out meal of rich, hearty, tasty utterly more-ish and crowd-please Tuscan food. Everything was completely delicious and quite reasonable. If you're looking for a place to dig in for a big lunch, look no further.

overall: traditional Tuscan dishes that i’ll definitely come back to try more dishes. (tho some are a slight miss) obsessed with the interior design. great place for celebrations or a chill dinner with friends/ family. tip ❗️: went for lunch on a weekday & it’s was completely packed. recommend making a reservation online. deep fried dough ball 🧀: didn’t really enjoy it as the dough balls are too bready & floury. chicken liver pate 🥖: seemingly simple combination, but occupies your palette w/ complex umami flavours. highly recommend. rabbit pappardelle 🐇: chewy al dente pasta w/ unique gamey taste. first time trying pasta w/ this flavour combination, must order. brisket w/ salsa verde 🥩: slightly confused if i’m suppose to drink the soup (?). the cuts of meat is tender & has a strong flavour, but the dish needs more depth as the salsa doesn’t complement or enhance the meat. fennel gratinato 🥬: what’s better than warm cheese veggies topped with crumbly breadcrumbs. cabbage slaw 🥬: simple fresh salad.

Had a lovely vday meal with my friend. Loved 3/4 of the items we ordered, drinks were nice and we didn’t pay an extortionate price in spite of the amazing quality and little food baby that we got out of the evening. We got the fried dough balls (oh my!!!) the lemon and rabbit pappardelle (oh my!!) and the mushroom tagliatelle (oh my!!!). Didn’t particularly love the squash, but I think that’s because of subjective taste palates. We didn’t have space for dessert but will definitely be back to fix that

Had such a fun dinner here with my husband. We arrived early for our resy so we had a drink at the bar. The decor, vibes and staff were all great. Very lively atmosphere! We shared the bean crostini, penne vodka, mushroom tagliatelle, pasta en Brodo, cabbage salad, and bread and tomato salad. Everything was so simple and so good! Pasta was perfectly Al dente. Loved the tomato salad, not your average panzanella. We will definitely recommend this place to friends who visit London!

This is the second time we've dined at Brutto and on this occasion we were eating there only days after returning from 2 weeks in Tuscany... The food is excellent, extremely authentic and it was a seamless transition to dining in the Tuscan hills to central London. We dined at 14:00 on a Friday and arrived early to find our table was ready (joy!) Staff were prompt with water and menus but we were then left to our own devices whilst a bustling service occurred around us. Drink & food orders were eventually taken and our wine arrived promptly followed by Anchovies on toast - superb and just the right amount. Some meaty tagliatelle and sausages with lentils and mustard followed and we were out of there by 15:30. Fantastico!

My first visit with a friend who is a regular. We were sat next to a very loud party in the hot back part of the restaurant. After speaking to staff we were moved to a better table. A member of staff dropped a wine glass on the floor by accident and a shard of glass landed in my hair which was a bit alarming, but no harm done. It was a memorable experience with limited though interesting menu. I would be happy to give it another go

Brutto has the best staff of any restaurant I have eaten at in London. Dan and his Italian colleague (Celina?) really looked after my Dad and I. They made it a very special evening. Highly recommend the dough balls, the stew and the mushroom tagliatelle! It's a perfect date spot with a beautiful interior. Recommend sitting at the bar.

The food and service at Brutto were perfect - the atmosphere was thrilling - such a lovely buzz, full of happy laughing diners. It is a wonderful restaurant and feels as if it has been here forever. Overseen by Russell Norman and his great GM Monique - they have a star team behind them and really deliver. Superb.
