Reviews The Red Duck

This is a great place and the sort of restaurant the area needs - upmarket Chinese food! They have tasty food and good service. Can’t say I noticed the staff being on our back like some of the other reviews - they were very friendly. The Char Sui pork and duck pancakes were the stand out for me, and whilst the chicken wings were tiny, they were very tasty. Squid was also tasty, but it really needs to come with a dip. If I could I’d rate this place a 4.5 out of five, and only because I agree with some of the other reviews that the prices are a bit high for the amount of food you get. But still worth the visit

I had the most amazing time here. Everything us Brits expect from your run of the mill Chinese Takeaway, refined, renewed and done to perfection. Open kitchen, and incredible service. The highlights for me where the chicken wings and the special fried rice. The chicken wings were little pockets of deliciousness and came with a refressing green dipping sauce that I wanted to have for the rest of the meal. And the special fried rice, well.... if that isn't soul food, I don't know what it. It was a true delight. It was nice a fatty, without being greasy, and each spoonful felt like a trip to my happy place. The open kitchen is always a comfort it me. And the service was impeccable. Attentive, friendly, but in no way overbearing. I've never had a place top up table water when you've paid the bill and getting ready to leave. We are blessed with some truly amazing places to eat in this area, and this one is definitely up there with the best.

Must visit. One of the best Chinese restaurants in South London. Some spectacular dishes include the Char Sui pork and Dan Dan noodles (very floral). It's grown up, it's tasty and very good. Slightly on the pricy side but it's worth it for this level of quality, all dishes taste full of flavour, no greasy aftertaste. Great staff and host.

As a HongKonger I have to say The Red Duck nailed it in bringing authentic Cantonese dishes to London. We had Singaporean style fried noodles, char siu (BBQ pork) and mushroom fried rice, all are so tasty and genuine, at a level of quality hard to find even in Hong Kong. Will definitely come back again and again.

Would recommend. Fast service, good quality food, medium sized portions. Not the cheapest but good value considering the quality.

Wow ! Simply wow ! It was the first time I heard about this place and, eventually, managed to order from the takeaway menu. I was with other 4 friends and we pretty much ordered the whole menu as we were very hungry . From the roast duck to the dumplings everything was delicious and excellent. The only reason why there are no pictures is because we did not have the time to reflect and pause or take them as the food was so good we almost were stealing each other portions from the plates . I cannot wait to order the ( very few ) dishes that we did not manage to sample . Highly recommended.

Absolutely amazing Chinese food! It's a small but excellent menu and if you share you get to try more things! Not greasy at all and didn't leave you feeling uncomfortably full, would definitely go again. The staff were also very helpful and accommodating to me (very pregnant lady).

We had a take away dinner this last week, every dish was delicious. The duck moist inside and crispy on the outside, a salad with lime that was outstanding and probably the best spring rolls I've ever had. Fabulous food, highly recommended!

Finally a great Chinese restaurant and takeaway in South West London! We are so happy. The food is authentic and cooked with fresh ingredients. My kids love the chicken wings and the duck! The Char Siu Pork deserves a special mention. It is not too lean not to fat. It is just perfect. I have recommended a few of my friends who all long for great Chinese food at home and everyone has loved it.

We had reservations for dinner for our anniversary. However, when we turned up, they had no tables available so we waited for 25 minutes. Eventually, it turned out that they had apparently overbooked the outdoor seating. The manager Greg was incredibly kind and quickly rectified the situation by giving us free takeaway and a bottle of wine! Food was delicious and we will definitely be back!

Stand out Chinese! We’ve been here 2 times now and both have been absolutely delicious. Duck (a must), chicken wings, beef in black bean and squid all incredible. You simply can’t have too many starters!

My favourite neighbourhood restaurant in Balham and that I've come across eating in London. Also the best contemporary Chinese style food south of the river, if not probably the whole of London (excluding China town). A new place (at the time of writing) that is working hard to lay down its foundations and so far deserves to become a mainstay of the community and a destination for all those that like to eat things nice. I've read harsh reviews picking up on issues with delivery and cold food and I understand those gripes entirely, no one likes getting food late and it being underwhelming however restaurants need a break, especially new ones. The restaurant business has taken a pounding since March 2020, and although delivery services offer them a way to survive, are often to blame for the issues that customers have with their delivery. I've had Red Duck three times in three weeks, twice takeaway (collected) and once in. All were fantastic, but eating in was by far the best. The service: impeccable, the setting: Tranquil and collected, The food: Glorious. Favourites: Peking Duck, Mushroom Rice, Ribs, Poussin and Ribeye. I hope the Red Duck is able to grown solid roots and continue it's fantastic start, I for one would love a table there under my name every night of the week. Note: This review is not sponsored or does the author have any relationship to the restaurant (apart from that I live up the road). Good Earth eat your heart out.

We had half a duck, dumplings and salt and pepper tofu. The duck was exceptional. Genuinely delightful. The vast majority of it shreddable by hand, perfectly fatty, with some of the meat crisped and crunchy. Perfection. The veg dumplings were delicious. The salt and pepper tofu was good as an accompaniment. Very happy with our meal and keen to try the range more in future.

A definite cut above the average take away - excellent steamed dumplings in a great spicy sauce and morning glory with spring onions and yellow bean sauce were two highlights. Yes, it may cost a bit more; but you certainly get what you pay for, with enjoyable, authentic food and friendly service. Recommended.
