This restaurant is fantastic. Has a unique concept with a nice interior, friendly staff and incredibly talented chefs.
Let me start off by saying- this is our experience at the London restaurant so we can’t speak for what the other locations are like.
I suggest you look into the concept of this restaurant before you go, I’ll briefly explain it in this review- but I assure you it’s a wonderful attendance.
So, chances are you’ll end up having to book, as on our visit it was completely booked up, I would imagine this is usually the case.
Right then, the food, basically you get 6 courses that are pre-decided when you arrive, they alternate these courses every 6 weeks (hence the name).
The quality of the food is top notch, presented beautifully and each course is listed on a menu explaining the inspiration and how it came to be on your plate. We thought this was a nice touch. The chefs are artisans with food.
Drinks are nice, we had a cocktail and some sparkling water, sparking water was a tad bit too expensive for my liking but they’re in central London. From what we heard the wine is spectacular.
The staff were brilliant, despite being constantly busy running around from table to table, we felt like they were instantly at our call and made sure we had whatever we needed.
This place is an experience in itself and a brilliant dine for a special occasion or a date night. Give it a try! You won’t be disappointed.
What an experience! In my opinion Six by Nico offers incredible value for the experience. We had a 6 course tasting menu and thoroughly enjoyed every course. The service was smooth and the food was divine. We visited for a 9pm sitting and the restaurant was busy, clearly well deserved popularity. The menus change every six weeks and so I will certainly be back.
We really enjoyed our meal, everything was delicious and we finished all our plates! The Catalonia menu was perfect, in terms of content and quantity, the service was very quick, the only thing that was a slight disappointment were our drinks. The cocktails just didn’t taste as nice as it was described and didn’t really give the same quality as the food. Will still come back though!
Another great menu from the team with a lovely nod to nostalgia and childhood. All of the courses were great. The flavours in the Bird Pie went together so well, and the truffle in the Just Right Porridge really brought the dish together. The tandoori carrot from Dip Face, Have A Carrot was a pleasant surprise. And the chocolate cremeux with Miso caramel were delicious components of the dessert rounding things off so well.
A wonderful dining experience. We enjoyed the Catalonia menu on the final day that they were running that menu and had friendly wait staff and an enjoyable time at the Fitzrovia restaurant. The highlight was definitely the patates bravas which had a delicious and crunchy outside and soft and fluffy potato on the inside. The smoked tomato was to die for. We also enjoyed the additional jamon croquettes as a side and the barbeque prawns which were lso an add on. Unfortunately the chicken (second dish) was quite dry. Luckily the array of sauces saved this however we also found the pork belly and cheek (fifth course) incredibly dry, stringy and overcooked. This had minimal sauce on the plate so it was a bit disapponting to finish on this main after a string of fantastic dishes. Dessert was well presented and a nice way to round off the meal. Echoing other reviewers, service was slightly on the faster side but they were friendly, nevertheless. Sitting by the kitchen is quite loud, however not so loud that it interrupted our meal. Recommend and would return for another six course.
We had a nice time, but we won't be going back. Read on for the more detailed review...
We visited 6 by Nico for the second time on a Saturday evening. The food was great and good value - which of course is their selling point.
A few downsides for me that will stop us going back:
- I arrived very hungry and left a bit hungry despite ordering the snacks and the extras. There just isn't very much food, so if you've got a big appetite, be sure to have a late lunch or a snack before you arrive. I ended up having a second meal when I got home.
- The sourdough bread was terrible. The texture was like a supermarket loaf. You can't charge people for two slices of that kind of bread in London and call it "high end". Even if you can't bake it in house, there are hundreds of suppliers that will give you "proper", decent sourdough in the immediate vicinity.
- The service was very friendly, but haphazard. They got our drinks orders wrong more than once and charged us for a more expensive wine than we ordered.
- There's no beer on tap and the bottled beer is pricey (I assume this is deliberate).
- Entirely our own doing, but with the extras, the snacks, the service charge and the drinks, we spent £95/head, between 4. Suddenly the evening being billed as great value starts to be challenged.
We came to Six by Nico for my boyfriend’s surprise birthday meal. We had a fantastic time, the food was spectacular, each dish of the “Once Upon a Time” menu was to die for and the wine pairings were fabulous. The only dish we didn’t enjoy hugely were the scallops, these were offered at a surcharge but didn’t really complement the dish they came with. We’ve been to tasting menus before where we ended up leaving and grabbing fast food on the way home, but we were stuffed after coming to Six By Nico. It felt like great value for money, and they added some lovely special touches for my partners birthday which was a welcome surprise. Will come back again to check out next month’s menu! Thanks for having us.
Although a 4 Star review, I will be back to try future menus.
Firstly, yes this is generally meant to be good pricing for a six course fine dining experience. If you are disciplined and can avoid getting upsold on every item, I would highly recommend it.
Food was great. Lots of interesting flavours and presentation styles. Some dishes were far better than others, so it was a bit of a rollercoaster experience going from amazing dishes to mediocre ones and vice versa. The sole, in my favourite dish in terms of flavours, was unfortunately slightly overcooked to the point it had become a bit dry and flaky.
Service was generally ok though just seemed a bit chaotic. I don't know whether they were short staffed or not but the energy was a bit too frantic for a restaurant that is working to deliver a higher end food experience.
I think it's definitely an experience worth trying though. And although it has some downsides, for the price, you can still have some really interesting dishes in a fun menu style so overall would recommend.
First time visiting yesterday. Great value for 6 courses & a lovely atmosphere inside. The staff were super friendly and attentive & offered to move us when sat next to a very loud table. I will definitely be back for the next menu.
Incredible experience at six by nico - so
Impressed with the concept, service, menu and authentic food. We love Sicily and this was better than the food we had in Sicily. Incredible and we can’t wait to visit more and try the other menu themes. You won’t be disappointed
Start with what's important... The food. Frankly a really positive experience with a selection of 6 dishes all served with great intros from the staff who in turn were all so amenable. The taste quality exceeded expectations for all four of us.
The atmosphere is very welcoming right from the start. Lighting and seating suit the style of food and combine with with a great selection of wines and the overall experience was excellent.
The price: Quite honestly you'd have to go a long way to find the above excellent combination of factors at such a high standard for the price.
Highly recommend and yes, we will be returning again.
Love the concept of the menus being based on a location. I tried the Lisbon menu and absolutely loved it!
All courses were cooked very well, nicely presented, and tasted amazing. My only regret was not adding the additional snack of crispy anchovies to start.
The atmosphere was good, the service was speedy, and I will definitely be visiting again once the menu has changed to a different location.
We visit this restaurant often and always enjoy it. The tasting menu was delicious as always and the wine flight superb. We were given complimentary champagne as we were celebrating a special occasion which was a nice touch. The only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is because we asked the staff for more time between dishes and as such wine courses. This didn’t happen and it felt like we were being rushed. Not a major slight as service was still good. Would still highly recommend this place though.
Lovely friendly service that greets from the doorstep till the end of your meal courses. Restaurant check on food restrictions and there’s vegetarian option available.
I love the simple chic open kitchen with good ventilation so my hair won’t turn smelly after! Favourite dish from the Sicily menu was the Appetiser, the Seabass and the Pork fillet tho all are nicely plate, taste fantastic and served in appropriate time.
I love the food description from serving crew every course they place on my table. There are great selections wine menu too.
I would definitely visit Six by Nico again.
We tried SixByNico in London with the menu Sicily. The formula is the usual 6 plates that changes every 6 weeks for a fixed price. The experience is top notch, with dishes that are showcasing a diverse range of flavors and underscore the culinary team's skill and artistry. While the dishes themselves are undeniably remarkable, the restaurant's atmosphere ends up being really noisy, which could detract from a more intimate dining outing. It's important to note that there has been a noticeable increase in prices since the previous years, making this experience not a bargain anymore as it was in the past (6 courses menu are 48£). Despite this, SixByNico remains a great choice for those seeking a fine-dining experience, where flavors take center stage amidst a vibrant ambiance.
It’s rare to find a restaurant that clearly cares about its guests experience but it is so evident at Six by Nico. The service we had from Irah was wonderful, and the restaurant itself is beautiful. I’ve never felt so safe eating anywhere as someone with a nut allergy. I asked for something without the trapanese pesto as it contains almonds - instead of removing it completely they had replaced it with a nut free alternative which was amazing. We came for a nice lunch to enjoy the Sicilian menu but I’ll be recommending this to everyone for a special occasion as it was just such a lovely experience. Thank you!
The Catalonia menu had very nice food and wine pairing. The dishes were presented well! We particularly enjoyed the hen of the woods and the goats cheese bombes! Our party of four included one vegan and one vegetarian and they catered well for both, switching out alternatives, which didn't feel lacking. The restaurant was packed out, and with an open kitchen this meant it was very warm and loud. We struggled a little to hear the explanations of each dish/wine. Despite how busy the restaurant was, the service felt very rushed. I think this, plus the noise lost a bit of the "fine dining" aspect of the experience. The moment you put your fork down, the plates were whisked away. It's a tricky balance to get right, knowing how attentive to be. I did mention to a waiter at one point to please slow things down a bit as we wanted to savour and enjoy each course and to be fair, they did ease off a bit - giving us a short break before dessert was served.
In summary, we had a lovely evening and I'd recommend for people who like tasting menus. I'd suggest to maybe book for a night earlier in the week, where it might be quieter?
Good place to go where you can try the tasting menu with reasonable prices.
Every season – new menu and new theme.
