Great set menu, super attentive staff, excellent dining room. I had the set menu of three courses at £24 + £4 for a glass of house wine which they did not have so they gave me a glass of Chardonnay.

We met up with a couple of friends for a first visit to the Townsend Restaurant which is located in the Whitechapel Gallery in east london.

Very good modern British restaurant in Whitechapel Gallery. The menu comprised eight dishes of varying sizes priced accordingly, together with three desserts. Everything is beautifully presented and full of flavour. Interesting wine list with about 10 choices offered by the glass.

We ordered the crab cake. It was a very modest size, about 3 inches across. Clearly not enough so went on to order the parsnip with braised pork. Also not big But the sizes ultimately were irrelevant. The tastes here are extraordinary. So too tip for next time. Go for starters, mains and pudding.
visited this restaurant for the first time and ordered the pre-dinner bread and the three course lunch set menu. I felt that they were all high-quality dishes. Staff were friendly. It would be nice to look around the bookstore and gallery together after dinner.

Easy to miss spot as it is nestled in Whitechapel Gallery; but what a treat when you do discover it. My wife and I went for the tasting menu, which consists of four courses. This place is a gem! The menu at the moment is full of seafood which was amazing. I didn't expect the modern British foods are good as this much. Because the menu changes every month, it's worth visit every month!
