Reviews Kuma

It’s Korean and Japanese. Can it be any good at both? Thankfully the answer is yes. The portions and quality are amazing. Nicely authentic and whilst the restaurant is small that’s the only downside I can think of. Pricing is also decent given the way many other restaurants continue to put up prices, this feels a bit like pre 2019 again.

Excellent. Visited tonight in a group of four and we all really enjoyed the visit. I’m a big fan of Korean cuisine and thought the food at Kuma was some of the best I’ve had. We had bibimbap, japche, KFC, kimchi pancakes, gyoza and bulgogi. Every dish was good and the food arrived pretty speedily, but was obviously freshly prepared. Restaurant was buzzy and full for a Thursday evening- if we hadn’t booked we would not have been able to get a table. The staff were friendly and we felt well looked after. Will definitely be back.

Don’t really want to write a review in case it gets too busy and we can’t get a seat in the future! But this place was really busy when we went there on Thursday - booking is recommended. The staff were friendly and helpful even though it was busy. The menu is a good balance of Korean and Japanese and they were all tasty and reasonably priced. Jigge was great and so was beef. I’d try more Japanese items next time - this place is worth a visit.

What a yummy place! Everything came out sizzling and everything was freshly cooked. The decor was tasteful and the crockery was authentic. The staff were very professional and helpful when we had questions about the menu. One member of staff had very long hair which was swinging all over the place. Her hair was beautiful but I didn't need to feel it brushing against my neck as she walked by. We ordered the following dishes: Kimchi, Izakaya Cabbage, Vegetarian Gyoza, Kang Jung Chicken, Tomato & Asparagus (Japanese) Curry and Kimchi Bokkumbap. Kimchi - was perfectly pickled and had a lovely fiery aftertaste. Izakaya Cabbage - was really delicious and fresh tasting. I've never had anything like this before and I really enjoyed it! Vegetarian Gyoza - whilst cooked very nicely and were certainly tasty, we weren't overly impressed with the filling. It was like baby food inside (puree). I was hoping for some whole vegetable pieces but that's just my preference I guess. Kang Jung Chicken - very tasty. I don't eat chicken on the bone and some of the pieces were boneless so my friend and I were able to pick our favourite pieces. It was crunchy, sticky and sweet! Tomato & Asparagus Curry was a nice variation on the usual Japanese curry. The Asparagus tips were perfectly cooked to crunchy perfection and the tomatos were sweet. There was plenty of curry sauce, rice and pickled ginger. Kimchi Bokkumbap - stir fried egg fried rice topped with marinated beef and a fried egg. Spicy! £30 per person and we were stuffed!

Amazing Korean food here! The japchae noodles are delicious and so is the soon dobu jigae and kimchi pancake. The service is fairly quick and the portions are decent. Overall really tasty place that I now frequent regularly.

Been a few times as we live nearby. Nice busy ambience inside. The food is great. Two times I’ve been they did forget my order but I forgive them as they are run off their feet. Gentle reminder and it’s all good! Quite small so probably best to book.

Great little restaurant. Came for lunch on a Saturday and got kimchi, beef bbq, kimchi and miso cauliflower and it was all delicious, especially the cauliflower. Friendly service too!

Thought to give this place a try after looking for food a few times in the area and have been back multiple times since! The yang yum wings are a must try and go down a treat every time. Recommend the different Donburis as well as the Salmon don! Staff always very friendly and accommodating and restaurant only a short walk from local train stations. Would definitely recommend if you’re in the area looking for Japanese / Korean style food

Oh my, we were lucky to get a table here without reservation as we stumbled across this place walking past. Thank the lord we didn'thead for some average pub grub. The food here is DELICIOUS. Every single dish was perfectly flavoured, tasty and exceptional value. I wanted to eat every dish but my stomach said otherwise. I wish I lived closer, but maybe that's a good thing as I'd want every meal here.

Updated for vegan food. Been here since it opened, always amazing. NOTE, they're becoming increasingly popular, recommend to book for dinner, you never know when it'll be busy. Has a good number of vegan options, once I've tried: - KFC, Korean fried cauliflower Must try! The crispiness. - Yasai ten don Tempura rice bowl, they make really good tempura! - Soon dobu jjigae (ask for vegan) Spicy street with soft tofu now available as vegan option! - Mapo tofu donburi Fried on the outside, soft tofu in the middle, spicy tangy sauce, all on top of rice. Perfect rice dish. - Chapjae (ask for vegan) Simple noodle dish, hearty, my favourite. - Tteobokki (ask for vegan) Great starter, not sure what's not vegan with the original.

Chicken katsu, spicy prawn noodles and gyozas all very good. Stand outs were the kang jung basket of fried chicken and beef bulgogi. Sensational. The meal overall was fantastic. The place was heaving and its obvious why. Plan to return in a few weeks.

Loved the interior and the design and the food was delicious. That fact that my granite plate came out and the food was still sizzling was super cool. And the sake bottle and cup were the prettiest little things. The service was a bit slow, we could clearly see that the staff is overwhelmed, but it was a Friday evening after all.

We booked a table for 3 on a Saturday night at opening time, which was a good thing because the restaurant filled up immediately! The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere was great and the service was perfect. Generous portion sizes and very reasonable prices. We wanted to come for a meal because there's always a delicious smell coming from the door and it was 100% the best decision, we really enjoyed our meal :)

(1) The Kang Jung fried chicken and Yuk Gae Jang come highly recommended. The “medium” portion of chicken gets you a whole basket (drumstick, wing, and several pieces of typical KFC). Awesome for-your-money food. IU water is a surprise surely, but a welcome one. (2) Came here for a second time because the first was great. Really liked the chicken as usual. Sundubu and Kimchi Jjigae was fantastic. I think the fried chicken had a little too much sauce, and the chicken:breading ratio could be a little higher. The breading and sauce were a little too overpowering. Service is great. Yoon, who served us on two occasions, was an all-star.
