A true gem on the London culinary scene. We haven't found better Nordic dining in London, and have occasionally struggled to better it in Norway, Sweden either.
Fantastic quality food, cooked to perfection, with paired flavours that linger on the palate long after the plate is whipped clear ahead of the next. We fully recommend the venison meatballs, steak and chocolate/mint dessert.
Service, drinks, ambience all excellent. We also really enjoyed our conversation with the chef-owner who is absolutely on top of his game.
Really lovely dinner- clean, tasty and perfectly cooked dishes. The meatball dish and the lemon sole dish stood out for me. The lemon sole was possibly one of the best fish dish I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Just so tender, felt like melting butter in the mouth. The starters were great and so were the desserts.
We were looking for Scandinavian restaurants in central London as of 2023 and narrowed it down to 3 options:
-Scandi Kitchen in Oxford Circus, small cafe, more for breakfast, cheap
-Skal in Islington, fine dining but not too expensive
-Ekte in The City, super expensive fine dining
So we went to this cosy little restaurant on Upper Street which you may have passed by hundreds of times and never noticed.
The food was delicious, very authentic as far as I could tell, extremely nicely presented and fairly priced. Portions are relatively small so you will need a starter, main and side to be filled. I must say I had to look at some pictures before ordering as the menu had words I was unfamiliar with.
Highly recommend the sole for main, it was light and delicious. I would not recommend the broccoli as a side, felt they were a bit bland and overcooked. The Salmon for starter was a winner!
Paid 88£ for two with no drinks; including a 12.51% service charge. Yep you read that right, they probably felt the need to increase but wanted to make it discreet haha!
NB: only open for dinner, closed on certain days and you should really book in advance as the restaurant was full on a Wednesday evening with reservations only.
The fish was amazing. Perfectly cooked and moist. Meatballs were also top notch.
Delicious food and lovely dining atmosphere. I recommend the lemon sole and roastbiff. I wasn’t a fan of the bread but everything else was great!
We had a good lunch experience at the restaurant. The dishes we ordered were nicely cooked, and enjoyed the flavors and textures presented to us.
The food was delicious and presented with a great eye for detail. I really enjoyed the whipped goat cheese, which was beautifully paired with beetroot jam. The waitress was really friendly and considerate. I would definitely recommend this place if you want to try amazing Scandinavian food!
The quality and price of the food here is brilliant. The restaurant is quite small with a great atmosphere and our servers were very pleasant and knowledgeable about the food.
We had a lovely time here, a delicious meal and a great bottle of wine.
An absolutely lovely place. Visited for my husbands birthday dinner and the dishes is to die for. So unique flavours. Lemon sole was out of this world just melted in the mouth. Shame we had no desserts as both felt ful after main meals, but definitely will be back to explore more. I would highly recommend this little gem.
Wow what a little stunner this place is. Beautiful little restaurant. Again somewhere you can easily walk past without seeing, as we did.
If you're looking for great food you won't! be disappointed 🤤
The beautiful narrow but long white washed brick/stone walled building with warm wood tables and parquet floor give this place a real intermate feel.
Francesca and another lady who's name i didn't catch ensured we had everything we needed. The meal ran at a really nice pace. Honestly can't praise the service enough 👏
Food was amazing.
I real must go too.
Thank you guys for a lovely meal worth everyone of those 5 stars skål 🥃👏
