I entered this place by chance and it was a lovely discovery.
Warm welcome, we got great advice on which dish to pick, I was impressed by the wine list, out of the ordinary.
The dessert was my favourite bit, like an Ile Flotante, but better.
I don’t put 5 stars because the bread served with the sardines pate was burned which spoiled the started a bit…
Went for a friends birthday. Had an incredible meal! Great food and good wine! Will return.
The starters were really good. I wish we got more of them. I got the piri piri chicken for my main. Really enjoyed it! The chocolate mousse was also really good and had crackling candy in it, interesting twist.
We finally tried this place and were not disappointed. Food is exceptionally good, start to finish. They offer a variety of mouth watering Portuguese dishes.
For starters we went for grilled prawns and chicken wings. Sambal sauce of chicken wings was delicious, what a nice south-Asian touch! I wanted to try their fish of the day but they ran out (don’t blame them, restaurant was packed and it was a weekend). Settled for their seafood stew with coconut cream which was surprisingly good. Do try their castella cake, it is simply amazing.
This restaurant does appear small from outside but don’t be fooled, the place is quite extensive with multiple levels.
Service could be faster but since we went for a dinner on a weekend and were in a company of good friends it didn’t matter much.
We will definitely be returning.
Outstanding demonstration of Portuguese cuisine and fantastic service by the team here.
We enjoyed the fish mains. The sardine paté is delightful. Hits the spot!
I will certainly recommend it to friends and family.
Came here for dinner as a group of 3 at 7:30 on a Friday night. Was initially hesitant to book since there were reviews complaining about slow service, so here’s our experience: Our dinner took a bit over 2 hours, from starters to mains to dessert. Waited ~10 mins for someone to come take our order. Starters came quickly but after finishing those, we waited another ~15 mins for the mains. Had to flag down service staff for a water refill, but aside from that, everything was fine.
To summarize, service was indeed on the slow side during the busiest time of the week, but if you’re with a laid back group and not pressed for time, the food is delicious.
Stumbled across this restaurant and could not have been more pleasantly surprised. The staff were exceptionally accommodating; from helping us choose items from the menu and generally being friendly throughout the evening. Now the food itself, even now has me searching for words beyond delicious, delectable and leaving you wanting more. I will most definitely visit again.
Dog friendly restaurant in central london (just behind covent garden). Food is good and reasonably priced. A lot of space making it suitable for big groups. I’d recommend a visit!
I had an amazing time @ Volta do Mar Restaurant in Covent Garden with my friends. We started with some drinks, they have amazing signature cocktails. The food was incredible and full of flavour. Friendly staff and very good service, had an excellent wine recommendation. The only issue I had was about a party who was very loud and disrespectful to staff but, understand that this type of unacceptable customer behavior is totally out of the staff control. The staff apologised to us. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
A hidden gem 💎 in convent garden! The restaurant boast of Portuguese culinary with influence from its colonies.
The previous chef (Daniel Marreiros) has gone on to be one of the finalists in MasterChef UK 🇬🇧
The current chef (Diogo Amaro) has an extensive experience as sous chef of MNKY HSE, head chef of OPIUM London, NOVIKOV (London, Dubai, Sardinia, Qatar)
It’s one of those places that you walk by and it seems nice BUT that you don’t expect food to be as nice as it is.
Not your party vibe restaurant, it has got a more chilled vibe to it.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!
The Octopus 🐙 , the Moqueca (fish & prawn stew) 🐟 🦐 and the Bacalhau com natas (baked salted cod with potatoes & cream) are in my opinion absolute “must try”!
Open wednesday to Saturday… usually fine to just show up on wednesday and Thursday but Friday and Saturday should book in advance.
Service was absolutely incredible here. We were slightly early for our booking but 2 of the group were 30 mins late. The staff were so accommodating, waiting for the 2 to arrive before taking our main meal orders. Food was delicious as well.
Excellent!
Great ambiance and service, the dishes were delicious and truly tasteful, the wine list and other beverages were also a good surprise with outstanding choices.
Overall the experience was stupendous and I definitely recommend it for any occasion, we will be back soon.
Thank you so much
CULTURE OF GOODNESS! I took my wife to this Portuguese restaurant for her birthday, I’m genuinely lost for words. The service was 10/10 the food and ambience matched this also. It’s a gem hidden amongst upscale restaurant, the flavours were delicious if you are looking to try something different, homely, authentic and tasty try this place. My dessert never made the picture 😋so I had to add my wife’s instead. I will be trying the catch of the day next time after eyeing up somebody else’s plate 🙈
Amazing food! Very fresh and very different! Wonderful wine and service. Highly recommend if you are in Covent Garden
