Fantastic food at great prices. Real gem of a place to offer dim sum outside of central London. Prices are very reasonable too. My husband and I always order loads (about 8-10 dishes) with Jasmine tea and beer and bill is always about £45. This includes food for my toddler and we always take home leftovers. Food is great quality and the restaurant is family friendly. It is a very large venue with plenty of room as it is always extremely busy on Sundays so book ahead! There is a wide range of dishes for which you can find the menu online on their website. They also do freshly made fruit juices and bubble teas. A good pointer for how good the food is here is by the number of Chinese people you see eating here as well as weddings held here. Nice staff overall and easy to park on the road outside.
Good food great prices. I decided to try the dimsum at Hong Kong City after reading about it on a blog. Living in South East London meant there were limited places for dimsum nearby and New Cross wouldn't be too far away.
We arrived on a Saturday 2pm and there was a decent number of tables occupied by people who seemed like regulars. We were seated immediately and were presented with a decent selection of dim sum dishes with some Vietnamese style additions.
We ordered the following dishes:
- har gau (good)
- prawn and chive dumplings (very tasty)
- Vietnamese style cheong-fun (nice change to the usual)
- baby octopus in curry sauce (I enjoyed it but my partner found the taste too strong for his liking)
- glutinous rice wrapped in lotus leaf (with sweet corn, prawns, lap cheong sausage and salted egg yolk - definitely different to what I've had before but still yummy)
- Shanghai dumplings (very good!)
The bill came up to be less than £20 for the both of us with jasmine tea which was a bargain and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal and left with happy tummies. I rate it just as good and perhaps even better than most in Chinatown and Baker Street.
We shall be back again for sure.
Overall rating: 9/10
All in all, I would recommend anyone to try on the dim sum at Hong Kong City.
I stumbled on this place last week when in the area and HAD to return again today for the Dim Sum..
Hong Kong City has a FULL dim sum menu that even puts some of China towns dim sum restaurants to shame.
Very well priced, freshly made and delicious....
I'll be back at the same time next Thursday... 😋😋
Go during Mon - Sat for dim sum. Lots off families go on Sunday.
Food was decent, not high end but reasonably delicious. The fried food was not too heavy - especially the squid.
Recommend to get the dough Cheung fun and try the Thai style chicken feet!
Expect to pay around £30-£35 per person.
I always love coming here to dine in and always enjoy all their food! I recommend this restaurant if the food are fitted for their price. Staffs are super friendly and treat me super well! Lots of parking space to park. I’ll always come back with high expectation
Haven’t been here for many years (when dim sum was only around £2-3 range!) and I heard it’s now under new management. A very quiet day for the business today. Very empty even around 1pm but from what I know this restaurant is usually packed during the weekends.
Food is pretty good for the price at £4.80-£6 per steamer. However, various meats were a bit on the red side even though they were fully cooked - over marinated? Staff were friendly. Fried beef ho-fun had good “wok hey”, however the noodles were a bit too “al dente”, beef wasn’t dry which is good. The Vietnamese spring rolls, prawn cheung fun and fried cuttlefish cake were pretty good. Peashoot prawn dumplings were good. Overall not much overpowering flavours, not too salty, not much msg. The restaurant floor could do with a bit of cleaning.
This place was awesome. Car park was available, table was available, service was quick.Toilets were clean. Food came after 10mins which was quick. The Dim sum were delicious and the custard dumpling was the best.
Too much Christmas Turkey saw us head to HK City for some Boxing Day Dim Sum and so glad we did - the food was exceptional and I can really recommend this place. Inside is cavernous with full tables of young and old Asians, with many multi- generational families - it was really buzzy. The Dim Sum is great and comes quickly, the cheung-fung is top notch.
This will forever be my best chinese restaurant... Since 2015 till date, I still frequent this place. This people have maintained their wonderful service in food, customer service and cleanliness...
The buffet is to die for and are cooked to perfection...
I will always love hong kong city... till my next visit, cheers...
Been coming here for over 6 years now... Not sure why the negative reviews... Affordable and kinda retro dim sum place, in fact the only dim sum place in the area. Always dependable :) prices have gone up since the pandemic but still better than Chinatown ones. Don't expect fine and delicate dimsum, but a homemade vibe that may not always be perfect. Cooked dishes are great too, no complaints.
We came here for lunch and was seated right away. It's a spacious restaurant with ample parking in front. The food was o.k, and the service was excellent.
Updated post in September 2021, their Lobster noodle is yummy!

October 2018 dine in Hong Kong City.
A good place to have dim sum , buffet or à la carte. Many people book for their wedding, birthday celebration. They have changed the owner, staff is friendly, foods quality has been improved, reasonable price. They have disabled access/ toilet, accept credit card, takeaway, only drawback is that parking is an issue.
Had the buffet and it didn't disappoint. You order from the buffet menu and your food is cooked to order so its alot fresher than a normal self service buffet. The food came out fast and was really good. I'll be coming back for some dim sum as the other reviews on here that rave about it.
Service was really quick and very friendly.
Great dim sum at reasonable prices food is made fresh. Quick and fast service. Would be nice if the had other options apart from pork there dim sum has a lot of pork option apart from that nice place.
Reasonably priced. Decent dim sum. Spacious seating for big families. Photo is halfway through the meal because dishes arrive at different times. Free parking.
A very nice Chinese restaurant (Cantonese style) specialised in Dim Sum. They have a lot of Dim Sum menu options with good prices. They also have congee, which was sooo good! The dessert menu was a bit limited, but they're serving it creatively either these jellies in shape or ice cream in a cute toy.
The location is quite far, but it's worth the visit! Definitely will come back for Dim Sum!
Great dim sum selection at reasonable prices. Quick service and friendly staff! Will definitely come again.
The food is so authentic. Filled our hungry tummies. Will definitely come back and try other dishes. x
