This place is now called Momo's Canteen and the food is delicious! The prawn laksa is authentic and the chicken curry is very flavourful. Definitely made my tummy very happy. Love it! Wish it wasn't such a trek to get to though.
Fantastic no nonsense food ! Went in pretty unplanned and uncharted and am very pleased I did. My friend and I both had a bowl of the Malaysian Chicken curry with brown rice, which had just the right amount of heat and spices - I don't like food too spicy or hot despite being Indian.
All that and under Ā£5 :)
This was simply perfect, especially with temperatures outside being about 6 degrees at lunchtime brrrr... Highly recommended šš¼
There are a number ofĀ independent little eating places around the Barbican area in addition to the usual Pret A Mangers, EATsĀ and Subways. Momoāwich is a small modern cafe in Carthusian Street that sells South East AsianĀ street food and aims to deliverĀ āauthentic Malaysian and Thai flavours.ā Ā You will find amongst other things, Malaysian beef rendang,Thai green chicken curry, soup noodles including curry laksa, steamed sandwich buns, chicken satay and Vietnamese summer rolls on the menu. Iāve noticedĀ bĆ”nh mi making an appearance as a special.Ā Vegetarians can orderĀ butternut squash Thai red curry, tofu soup noodles, vegetarian spring rolls, tofu summer rolls and vegetarian steamed sandwich buns.
Small lunch spot that packs a punch with spicy dishes from all parts of Asia. From S Korean KFC to Katsu in Japan to Pad Thai from Thailand to Laksa in Malaysia, you have a wide selection of tasty dishes to pick from. All for less than a tenner.
The staff there were very kind and friendly. The spicy pawn laksa was decent, but the noodle was not what I expected. Overall, itās a nice place for lunch.
Very tasty food for lunch! I've had super delicious rice noodle salad, and pork buns. They also have amazing laksa. You can also buy some small snacks here such as Korean yoghurt biscuit sticks, and interesting unusual drinks you might not have tried before. I will definitely be coming back here soon for lunch! Portions are of a fair size, price is reasonable as well for the quality of the food.
Cute little lunch place, service friendly and fast. Food was a little too sweet and sticky to be considered authentic Asian food, but still comforting and good portion size.
Went to grab lunch, queue was out the door but with the wait as good was excellent. Service seemed a bit slow at first but staff certainly weren't dragging their heels. Good value for money lunch, recommend a visit.
Revisited after 5 months and it's still as good. Being a milktea fanatic from Hong Kong, i absolutely love the malaysian milk tea and it's probably the closest as HK-style milk tea i could get here. Would definitely return!
Excellent for lunch. Good quality food reasonable prices
Great flavour. Good price
Gluten-free: satay or Malaysian curry with rice (grilled chicken or tofu)
Tasty food and friendly service. Laksa has a good kick to it but the satay is probably still my favourite. They run a loyalty card which I always forget to bring or get stamped as I'm so hungry after watching them assemble my orderš¤Ŗ
Really good food, and surprisingly cheap considering the location. Lots to choose from for vegans and omnis alike. I am particularly a fan of their Japanese curry, but their laksas look amazing! Fast service too, we had our bowls waiting for us before we even decided where to sit.
Been there twice at the Momo Canteen near Charterhouse and on both occasions I had their spicy prawn laksa. It is spicy, rich and creamy. A lot of stuff in as well. Worth trying and I'll be back for more.
Excellent food, really tasty and filling. The interior is alright but it's quite small, which means it gets quite busy during lunchtime.
I had a medium curry and spring rolls for lunch, which was filling. However, for the price I paid I would have expected a bit bigger portions. Shame also that they are only really open for lunch during the week and not weekends or evenings.
Very good takeaway and eat in Japanese / Korean food. The Korean chicken is excellent. Friendly staff. You may have to queue at lunchtimes.
Filling portion sizes. I love the Korean fried chicken (beware its has peanuts) but if you get there after 1pm, most likely it will be sold out. Otherwise I normally go for the Malaysian chicken curry which is the hottest dish served there so beware. Chicken Teriyaki tastes nice but is a bit too dry for my liking. Spring rolls are tasty.
I've never come across a place with such flavour in London! Service is fast and friendly, perfect for lunch takeaway. So many dishes to choose from. I had the Malaysian chicken curry and it was so unforgivingly hot, exactly what I needed! My friend went for the mild Masman tofu curry and was more than satisfied. We'll be back again very soon!
