Highgate does a great line in cosy, wood panelled pubs with roaring fireplaces, low ceilings and plenty of ale on tap. Perhaps my favourite is the Prince of Wales on the high street, which backs onto Pond Square and has a small terrace for outdoor drinking. It is the warm interior, however, that is its draw card - the perfect place to settle down with a good book and a glass of whisky on a winter's day. They provide a serviceable Thai menu and it is a popular weekend wind-down destination for people to read the paper supplements, often with their dogs curled up under the table. Along with the usual selection of lager and cider the bar serves such drops as Butcombe Bitter and Everards Beacon with four guest ales a week. It also runs a popular and competitive quiz night every Tuesday, dubbed by some the 'toughest in Britain'. Staff can be a bit disconnected at times, but otherwise behave like a lot of country pubs.
Cute lil pub. Good vibes, nice beer and wine selection. Even had a DJ on the vinyls.
Traditional looking pub from the outside, but with a refurbished interior and a certain edge to the music choice. It's done in a genuine way and not too 'try hard' but it's definitely not your Dad's country pub. There's still a good selection of ales and lagers, plus the bar staff were relaxed and friendly.
Nice, cosy (aka tiny) pub, with seating outdoors, facing Pond Square. Holds quiz nights. Probably the nearest thing to a local in Highgate
Lovely pub-how pubs used to be 30 years ago! Went Sat before xmas and lucky enough to get a table (pub is small). Great ale (inc landlord, doombar and ghost ship) and reasonably priced (about £5). Great atmosphere and very warm and cosy despite it being sub zero out
Friendly welcoming and very, professional staff. We truly enjoyed the couple of drinks we had ....
It's a 'proper' pub so doesn't do any food. Only one cask ale but was Landlord and kept well so that was good enough for me. Lagers and craft beer that was approaching £8 a pint for some! Nice little pub with friendly staff and a small outdoor seating area at the back facing out to a small park. Good place to stop for a couple before moving on for something to eat.
Very nice place with a wide selection of beers.
Very cosy pub in Highgate. A pleasant change from the excessively trendy alternatives. The prices were also reasonable, considering the location. The only downside was that on a Monday evening the only people in there, aside from ourselves were the ‘regulars’ who are just the local alcoholics…
Wonderful small pub with a great atmosphere. Proper local doing great beers, wines and spirits. Not to be missed on any itinery and a warm welcome is extended to all.
cool pub, as a pub should be. beer and crisps and a relaxed vibe . love it
It's a nice little pub.
They have Tribute ale on tap. Well worth a few slurps.
Bar staff are really nice too.
Great and cosy pub! Good selection of beer and friendly staff!
Brilliant local pub, friendly, good music and lovely Ploughmans.
Small local pub with good music
Recently refurbished and has given it a new lease of life. Up to date decor, but doesn't lose its traditional character. If only they did more interesting ciders/ flavoured beers. Great, cosy pub on pond square.
Such a great place.
My first time in here and I found the service fantastic
Cool cosy pub with a great selection of craft ales.
I met the manager Theo and he's a real great character.
Made me feel right at home.
This place is a must go to if you are in the area.
Favourite pub in London!! The guys who run it are the best of the best. The drinks are lovely and there’s always some events going on. It’s very hard to leave once your cosied up in one of the corners. Especially when the fire is lit :)
