This place is one of the "must visit" places in chinatown. It offers amazing noodle soup bowl items and teas. Also, the fried fishes were good as well.

Easy and simple. Food is good, with a good but again simple menu of choice. Having previously lived in Beijing, i find thid place resembles most the atmosphere of a Beijing Hutong dinner. I generally go here for my chinese dumplings (know for being made in the window)

For a dumpling fan like me this place was a treat indeed. You eat yummy dumplings (both steamed and fried are delicious) and watch them being made on your side. Making dumplings is a skilled job. This is a small place, gets busy quickly. Their drinks are quite interesting as well. Ambiance - simple no frills. Service - just what's required, servers can be loud in passing orders. Nonetheless, good place to grab a quick bite and carry on for the rest of the day

When you walk into Chinatown there are a lot of those well populated restaurants trying to pull you in with offers of unlimited buffets, but if you are smart or if you want something a little more real, then keep on walking until you get to the edge of the area and you will find a few little gems like Jen Café on the corner of Newport Court.

Jen Cafe is a casual eatery of the no fuss kind of a place. The star attraction of this cafe has to be the handmade dumplings. These can be seen being made in the front of the shop and in the shop window. Two portions of the vegetarian dumplings were ordered. One portion was steamed and the other was fried. The fried dumplings were only fried on one side which made them not at all greasy. It gave a nice contrast to the texture. Both sets of dumplings were so tasty and even the outer pastry was good. The filling seemed to be a mix of mushrooms, vermicelli and other vegetables.

In the middle of Chinatown there is this green painted café, with BBQ meats, and roast duck hanging from the metal stands. in the Nothing much has change over the years, the same wooden 4-5 tables the curved bar area. In the shop window you see a lady rolling out dumpling pastries and making Beijing dumplings that can be cooked either fried or steamed or boiled.

I have been wanting to try this place for a while, so me and my friend finally popped inside for an impromptu lunch meet. The place is quite small and quite busy during lunch hour, but we managed to be seated straight away.
I ordered the soup noodles with roast duck - the soup was maybe a bit bland, but it wasn't too bad when eaten with the roast duck which helped balance out the flavours. You can add extra soya sauce if needed. My friend ordered the hot and spicy pork noodles with sauce. The noodles looked homemade and were quite thick like udon noodles. We saw the table next to us having it so we ordered one ourselves, and it was simple but  quite tasty.
We also shared a bowl of wanton soup. I think they use the same soup base for the noodles and dumplings as they taste the same.
We were too full to try their dumplings which are supposed to be pretty good, and you can also watch them making them by the window.
The food here is simple, tasty and cheap, and I would probably pop back in again soon.

This is not a restaurant as such, more of a Chinese café that feels not dissimilar to a Hong Kong cha chaang teng, the equivalent of a Hong Kong ‘greasy spoon’ cafe.

You will see Jen Café’s green shop front (with a woman in the window making dumplings) near the small pavilion. The café is small, no frills and with typical ‘friendly’ Chinatown service – it goes without saying you will share a table when it’s busy and it’s not a place to linger after you’ve finished eating. One time we were there, a couple of customers were asked to move to our table mid meal to make room for a larger table. We chatted briefly to our new dining neighbours – they always return to Jen Café for the dumplings and

...fried dumplings, boiled dumplings and vegetarian dumplings... spicy pork noodle...Slightly spicy, slightly beany and very nice minced pork on top of hand-made chewy noodles for £5 makes this a must-order each time we're at Jen Cafe.

Jen Cafe serves up hearty one-dish style of food, a long list of sweet, non-alcoholic drinks–we are talking milk tea, etc.–and as for their specialities, DUMPLINGS! You can’t miss their dumplings, really, the moment you walk past Jen, because there will a

Jen Café is a Chinatown institution and has been on its corner site on Newport Place for as long as I can remember. It's very much a caff reminiscent of the cha chaan tengs of Hong Kong serving a wide choice of hot drinks and breakfast stuff like toasted

Like many Chinatowns in cities all over the world, London's Chinatown is filled with restaurants, buffet shops, takeaways, tea houses, cake shops and other eateries. Even the provision shops in London's Chinatown is dedicated to food and stock very little

This is a small cafe in Chinatown with limited seating area. We however managed to grab a space without any waiting on a Sunday evening. The restaurant has a limited menu and we chose to order dumplings. Their dumplings are nicely thick without it feeling too rubber-like. The filling is great and compliments the overall taste and texture.
I would probably like to go back here again and try different things from its menu as the rest of the stuff on the table of other guests looked quite yummy! ;-)

London’s original Chinatown was in Limehouse in the East End (thank you Wikipedia for that nugget!). In the early twentieth century London’s Chinese population congregated there, setting up businesses to provide for the Chinese sailors coming in and out of the Docklands. The current Chinatown off Shaftesbury Avenue was only established in the 1970s, until then the area had been just another down-at-the-heel part of Soho, although Gerrard Street was home to the first Ronnie Scotts Jazz Bar in the 1920s. It’s one of my favourite parts of London, and I love just wandering around, grabbing a plate of dumplings, or stocking up on noodles, Sriracha, packets of miso soup and Jasmine Tea from Loon Fung supermarket.London's Chinatown London's Chinatown London's Chinatown London's Chinatown London's Chinatown However, the 80 or so restaurants in Chinatown vary wildly in quality. For every authentic gem, there is one with a window displaying heated silver trays full of congealing day-glow orange, msg-laden ‘food’. After much experimentation during my first few years of living in London (most of it late at night / early in the morning with one too many cocktails in the stomach) I now go to the same handful of places: Tokyo Dinner for a cheap and cheerful Japanese meal, Cafe TPT for the standard Cantonese fare (the honey roasted pork and shrimp dumpling soup are particularly good), and Jen Cafe. I’ve also heard really good things about the dim sum at Leong’s Legends and will try soon.

Of these, my most regular is Jen Cafe for Beijing dumplings and bubble tea. I love Beijing dumplings, little dough-wrapped parcels of pounded pork and cabbage either boiled, steamed or fried. The ones at Jen Cafe are made by a consistently grumpy lady who sits in their window for hours at a time (possibly why she is grumpy). I always have them pan-fried, liking the contrast in texture between the chewy outer skin and the soft filling, and dunk them into a sauce made from the containers of chilli oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce and sugar on each table. They’re some of the best I’ve had, although I have admittedly never been to Beijing, and at just £6 for eight fat ones, are also excellent value. I have them with a bubble tea, normally Hong Kong style: smooth, sweet tea made from condensed milk, poured over ice, and and littered with tapioca pearls.

Jen Cafe is unavoidably tatty around the edges, and the service is well, typically Chinese; don’t expect smiles or too much attention. Nor is it a place to hang around in: the bill is often placed down in front of you while you are still mid-chew. But it does make an excellent pit-stop if you are in the area, and the dumplings are reliably good. It’s cheap, tasty and satisfying, I’ll continue to be a regular on it’s threadbare stools.

This was the experience I was hoping for. I went in knowing Jen Cafe only accepts cash for payment. The lady rolling dumpling wrappers was working away in front of the window, and she reminded me “cash only” when I walked in. This is a no-nonsense dumpling café in London’s Chinatown. It was conveniently located to the Sondheim Theatre where I was seeing Les Mis that night. I popped in here for half an hour before the show to enjoy a mug of jasmine tea and a plate of freshly fried pork dumplings. It was a quick and easy dinner, very reasonably priced.

As usual the dumplings were great I was hot so a glass of iced lemon tea was welcome. A very authentic restaurant with good food, busy as usual. I always enjoy a bite to eat when I'm in the area.

Popped into Jen’s Cafe this evening before the Theatre (Life of Pi (you probably didn’t care 😏)) for something quick and tasty, and we weren’t disappointed!! This place is a bit of a gem and a China Town institution. Definitely no airs and graces… Upon entering you’re guided to your seat at a speed that could well incur whiplash… Menu’s are laminated card and the choices are short and simple. Customer service isn’t high on the agenda, when we asked to keep hold of a menu after we’d ordered we got a look of disdain and it frisbee’d back at us 😂 However, the food is so bloody good all of the above paled into insignificance. The dumplings were cooked to perfection and packed full of flavours and filling!! One of the chefs beavers away making more dumplings in the corner of the cafe as you eat… Our fave things: The Fried Dumplings, and how care free the service is - all the effort goes into making the food so great!✊🏻👌🏻👊🏻 📍🚇| 2/3 mins walk from Leicester Square Tube Station

It's all about the dumplings. Fresh. Home made. Good value. Tasty. Best fried - though you need to specify that. Been snacking on dumplings at Jen's for decades. The dumplings have gotten a bit smaller over the years, but are still yummy. (And to be fair I have also gotten larger.) Every time I strayed into the menu I wished I had had dumplings. So. Dumplings. That's all you need to know.

Got the pork dumplings (北京饺子), the fried dumplings (锅贴), and the shredded pork with pickled vegetable (雪菜肉丝). Thought the pork/pickle soup was great, but the dumplings' filling was a bit too porky for me, so didn't enjoy these as much...

A no thrills restaurant where you go there to eat and then leave swiftly. The portions are big and good value and it's a reminder of a typical hong kong cafe.

It really is all about the dumplings! We had the fried and the boiled dumplings and they were all so delicious. We also tried the BBQ pork with rice which was really nice. It is a small, cosy place but with great comfort food. And seeing the dumplings being made in front of your eyes just makes it even more special. Will definitely be visiting again!
