I went with high expectations and did have a nice experience but gotta be honest I das expecting more. The food was ok however I felt I didnt do the right choice, I chose the grilled chicken and it was good but a bit tasteless. My friends' choice - korean chicken - tasted much better. The environment is very good and so is the service.

After a day spent in bed with a minor hangover I popped in to japanese canteen for some breakfast/lunch/dinner. I was ravenous so I ordered a start as well a my main - Korean fried chicken strips. To be honest that would have been enough on its own but I also got the two way pork ramen.
The off was swamped in a spicy but not overly so chilli sauce that was tasty enough. The chicken was crunchy and moist and arrange seeds were scattered all over the top which was a nice extra. I had planned not to eat it all but couldn't stop myself.
So I didn't manage to make it through my whole bowl of ramen. This was a decent enough dish with a very nice marinated egg. The broth was very savory but not my favorite. Strangely it was a bit too much like gravy for me. The pork was delicious - pork belly and pork shoulder, all juicy and fatty.
I'd happily go here again but wouldn't choose it over shoryu or tonkotsu. Nice to have it in my neighborhood though!
Great value! A family of 5 under £100 for dinner! We had two pints and a half and three soft drinks, a starter each and 5 main dishes.
Depending on a chef, portion sizes and quality of dishes change. Sometime serving portion is smaller than usual! l hope the quality and portion of each dishes remain the same.
Also, depending on a day, there is a long wait!
Today was a good day with good portions and no long wait.
For the hit and miss service and portion, I’ll give 4 stars, but for value, I’ll give 5!
Decent prices, and good quantities. I do not agree with 4 stars reviews, this place deserves 5 stars, according to the location and prices… one of our favorite places in the area 😉
Thoroughly beat our expectations of a cheap and cheerful meal. Staff were excellent, and all of the food packed flavour.
Teriyaki may have been a touch sweet, but it was all lovely.
Nice Katsu Curry. My friend had korean fried chicken which she loved! The difference I found was the chicken breast pieces are cut and fried individually which is nice and crispy when you have it hot. I felt the quantity of curry was a bit less for dine in, not aware of takeaway quantity. Price is almost equivalent to other restaurants.
Excellent food - great prices and nice atmosphere. When we were looking for a place to eat late in the evening after a long day of continuous meetings we ended up here due to the fact they could accommodate 3 people at that time without waiting.
The food is served quickly but freshly prepared and tastes very nice. Really enjoyed our time here and had a good dinner.
Had a really good time here this Saturday. The staff are doing a great job making you feel welcome. It was quite busy here but we didn't have to wait too long for our food, it arrived in about 20 minutes. The sushi rolls and dumplings are awesome and so was bibimbab with seafood. Try a pint of Asahi beer on tap - it's really good. They also have a selection of craft beer by London Brew. All in all a quality relaxed place with great tasty food and friendly staff.

I enjoy coming here because the food is tasty, portions are filling and its good value for money.
The interior is as the name suggests, canteen style. Tables for 2 and 4 close together so they almost resemble another well know noodle chain beginning with W.
Staff are pretty efficient, and in all my visits interaction has been fairly minimal but they've always been friendly and pleasant.
The menu is KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) heavy but don't think it'll burn your mouth off. There's lots of spice to the spicy dishes but not a great deal of heat. Good for most, not so good if you have an asbestos mouth, but there's chilli oil on every table and sriracha if you're desperate (I find it as hot as ketchup)
The bento boxes are excellent value for money and quite filling. In this visit I had the chicken katsu curry, it was fantastically tasty.
Highly recommend going, even if its just for wings before you head next door to drink.
I should point out that this venue does not accept cash.
Yummy and well priced food and a casual and quiet setting. Love that they have Asahi on tap ! Korean fried tofu was to die for and my companions said they live for the Korean friend chicken ..!

The place is great situated really close to Bethnal Green tube station and easy to spot. On the day we went the place was busy, we had to wait a bit for our food. But it was all worth the wait. The food was GREAT.
Had another lovely family get together at Japanese Canteen where the food is delicious and the service is great. We have been here a few times now and the food has been great every time.

We went there at lunch and the staff was really kind and friendly. My boyfriend had to come back to work in 45 min so they were super fast to serve us which is plus! The food was excellent: we had the chili squid and the prawn and salmon wonton as starters and after we had a seafood hot stone bibimbap for me and a beef one for him. The portions are very generous ( it came also with an amazing miso soup with a spicy bok choi salad) and the presentation is stunning as you can see from the pics. This is definitely our new favorite spot for lunch! We can’t wait to try something else!!! Well done guys!

Super tasty food and great menu. The place is well located in a hidden passage near Bethnal Green underground station. Had a wonderful meal for a razonable price.
Great atmosphere, great service and great choice of food. Never tried Japanese food before and i will be going there again!! Go for the experience and new tastes and flavours.
I'm a novice with chopsticks so the chicken katsu curry with brown rice was tricky to handle but fun nevertheless. The iced green tea went down well albeit somewhat watery. A packed restaurant. Very lively.
Really enjoyed the food and service. The chilli squid was excellent as was the Korean Fried Chicken. Prices went too bad either.
