Great food, amazing service, poppadom whilst you wait for a take away, really nice people- great!
Standard Tandoori is my number one spot for Indian food in Islington. The inside looks like a proper old fashioned curry parlour. The windows are blacked out, the carpets are red and the tables are set the old fashioned way. The food comes served to you on a silver trolley. All in all the place is charming, and there is the option to have your food delivered as well so it provides restaurant quality food in your own home.
My favourite here is the sizzling and fresh chicken tikka which is subtly but perfectly spiced. For curry lovers I would recommend the Saag Gosht which is probably the best curry I have ever had. It is a dish of beautifully seasoned spinach and tender lamb. The onion bhaje’s are not at all greasy but pack a brilliant flavour, as does the lentil dish Tarka Dahl.
The service in this restaurant is warm and welcoming. Living just down the road I usually go to pick up my curry personally, and my bag is always filled with extras such as chutneys and popadoms. Last time my waiter even threw in a cobra beer, the perfect addition to my meal.
All in all this is a great curry restaurant and I thoroughly recommend it, both for take away and for a unique dining experience.
A lovely restaurant. Well recommended by many. The staff are very friendly and kind. The menu is extensive. The dishes are generously proportioned and decently priced. The restaurant is clean and cosy. Easy to find.
1st time back here in over 20 years. Myself & my husband were regular customers when we lived in Highbury but have moved twice since. The food is still excellent & it was quite emotional meeting the same waiter/manager who served us all them years ago plus he remembered us. Can't wait to return as we aren't that far away
Decent food but unwelcome non-vegetarian extras in my order.
I went here once many years ago for eat-in and it was good, so when I recently moved into the area I ordered delivery. While the food was decent, they included loads of free extras I did not ask for like bhajis (which I don't like) and salad (which was wilted and room temperature). I appreciate the gesture (maybe they did it because I tipped through Deliveroo, but this was to give them extra support during lockdown) however it's wasteful and it gives me more rubbish to dispose of. The main problem with the freebies though was that they included MEAT samosas - everything in my order was vegetarian so it never even occurred to me that they would put meat in my order. It was not very pleasant to unexpectedly bite into a mouthful of lamb and I had to get rid of it, so it went to waste.
I will consider ordering from here again but only if I am able to add a note for them to not include anything I didn't ask for.
Have only eaten in a few times but regularly treat ourselves to a takeaway. The food is excellent. Have tried various dishes and found them all to be of a very high standard (no pun intended). The decor may suit the restaurants name but the food definitely goes way beyond it......
Ordered on Deliveroo and it was so delicious! Our family owns an Indian restaurant in Australia so I’m generally have high expectations of my Indian take-away and you guys smashed it! Mirchi Fish was my fave!
Way better than the name suggests. One of the most consistent and good restaurants I've ever visited on a regular basis. The staff are brilliant, friendly, attentive and welcoming. They maintain a respectful distance so as to not intrude or interupt your meal. However they are more than happy to approach the table and engage in conversation if you indicate you wish to do so.
Personal recommendations are: Roshni chicken, lamb rogan and chicken shashlik. Their poppadoms are close to floorless.
Don't let the décor fool you, this place does excellent food.
Best local curry house in London! Friendly staff and always made welcome. Well priced and genuinely a great experience.
Best curry ever. We used to live locally and loved their curry. Now we’ve moved out of the area but no other curry restaurant beat their curry - so we always come back here. One reason not to move out of Islington.
Clean and warm place. Friendly and courteous staff! We had a booking for 4, though it was not so busy when we arrived for dinner on the 18th feb weekend. The Peshawari Naan and the Paneer Rezala(tangy and spicy) were very good! The chicken and veg Kormas were a bit too sweet! Even the Chicken Tikka Masala was quite sweet! Pilau rice was very plain with no flavours. Cheese naan needed more cheese for sure! A hit and a miss! But I think if they reduce the sugar a bit their food can be delicious! I would definitely go again to try more things!
Not bad, not great, but not a place you'd leave disappointed if you want a typical Indian catering for the British. Certainly my choice for a fail proof meal. If you want authentic there are others.
Simply the best. Staff are so very lovely and the food is great. There's a really warm atmosphere and SUCH good curry!
I’ve been here many times, don’t let the name fool you. This is a restaurant with great food, speedy service, and an overall eat-out experience that is well worth the money. 10/10
Great food, good price, and impeccable service. Great options for vegetarians too! I’ll definitely come back to this restaurant!

Super welcoming, child friendly, yummy YUMMY food (my hard to please wife was very enthusiastic!) and very clean. Bonus = free parking outside from 7pm! Recommended
Great curries and beers here. Food and service cannot be faulted. Easy to miss if just walking past but hard to forget.
