I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about, in fact I would go as far as saying this place is something of a hidden gem. While the decor may not be great, the service is polite and speedy and the food is great, authentic and cheap. Because of the dodgy reviews on here I thought it would be best to stick to traditional Sichaun classics and I certainly wasn't disappointed. In fact, I will be going back to try some of the more interesting sounding dishes. I had fish fragrant aubergines, ants climbing a tree and Sichuan style pork belly with chilis and green peppers. The portions were generous, the food felt authentic (if a little greasy- as to be expected with this style of Chinese food) and the ambiance of the place was fine. I cant help but think the other reviews were expecting something different or just normal Chinese takeway food. But from what I know of it, this is traditional Sichuan food and I would 100% give it a go if you live nearby.
Enjoyed the pork very much. Water mouth chicken (chicken in spicy sauce) is all good and nice presentation, just know that it's cold before you order. Dan Dan noodles wasn't done in the Shanghai way with peanut but it's still hearty the way they do it. Stirred flied morning glory (vegie) and Singapore style vicemelii done very cloe to perfection.
Quick refill of tea and quick serve as well.
Also tried their takeaways a few times and all checked out.
Only thing is I don't like their roast duck so much.
First time trying the restaurant and we haven't been disappointed. We have ordered a lot of dishes which were nice but on some I will leave them out as we did ordered too much. Our favourite it was the prawns with broccoli, vegetables with noodles and the morning glory. The service was attentive and the place was clean.
They need to pay attention also to their toilets as that it was one area that needs to be checked more regularly
Always order from here when I’m lazy to cook proper Chinese food at home. It is really nice to have a Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood and they always get food delivered within 30 minutes.
The best thing is, they don’t serve fake Chinese food like other takeaways, there’s at least some authenticity in the food. Wouldn’t say it is the best, but it is good enough to comfort my Chinese stomach once in a while 🥲
Nice and good value tasty food.
The food is consistently rather good especially with the vast range of dishes they offer. Each are cooked uniquely with full of flavour so always nice to try something new.
The fried green beans are of worthy note, has all the spicy and fragrant taste you should expect from this dish.
The pressed bean curd with coriander is also very good and worth a try, it's got a fresh and slightly tangy flavour that helps cleanse the palette.
Their roasted meats, duck pork and char siu are nicely done, succulent with lots of juicy flavours.
The Dan Dan noodles though lacked much flavour and saltiness but the noodle texture was good.
Overall the service was good, and the food was very good with great value for money! Would recommend dining here on any occasion.
A solo Saturday evening and Ma Po was as good as ever. The Dim Sum Platter to start was just right for one. I went double on starters with Hot and Sour soup which was not too hot (thankfully) and was really tasty. Duck with egg fried rice was washed down with a couple of Tiger beers. Having been a regular for many years with a long break until today I was pleased to see the food quality was as good as ever and won't be leaving it so long to visit again.
I don’t quite remember the dishes names but everything was great, the atmosphere and service. The food was tasty, well balanced. As seen in the photo, I had a soup and a hoisin roasted duck dish and a side of plain rice that I had to buy separate, as it’s not coming with the dishes.
Thank you!
I've been here twice and didn't get disappointed. Their food is really tasty and price is reasonable. Staff here are nice as well and service tends to be really quick.
Top top food.
I always come here to catch up with the lads and have a tasty bite!
We always leave with happy bellies.
The dry wok chicken 🐔 is THE ONE!
Really good crispy pork with sweet and sour sauce, paired well with the egg fried rice. Dim Sum platter was ok, the prawn and the shumai were good but the xiao long bao was a bit hard and not juicy. Overall great food and attentive service.
They have all you can eat hotpot for £18.80 per person. Might be a little steep, but it looked delicious. Will be back for a hotpot!
Authentic and delicious. I ordered a classic "Ants Climbing up a tree" which is stir fired pork with vermicelli noodles. Great aroma and also super flavourful. Great price for the quantity too.
Went after Millwall match. Food is absolutely average, but it's cheap, £4 a fried rice, £7.8 a mapo Tofu, open till 11, pretty clean and bright, quick service, nothing to complain
One of the best sichuanese restaurants in London, plus they also offer many vegetarian and vegan options. Their Ma Po Tofu is to die for!
