I was recommended this place as I was making a rare visit to clapham. There were 2 waiters and i must say one really let it down for the team. She was too busy talking to one table to notice i wanted to order twice. The other though, he was fantastic! Great knowledge of the food and so polite! I had the bun whilst my boyfriend had the noodles. The noodles were so warming and he told me that they were packed full of flavour and the best he'd had in London! My pork bun was seasoned great and although not as good as bao. It was a good contender.

Very small space but nice interior and very friendly.

We had beef soup which would rival any Pho, as the broth was absolutely delicious.

I agree that the menu is limiting

What: Japanese

Where: Clapham Common

Value: £15pp

Food Review: The menu is limited and is set out as a snack menu, which is the idea, to order a lot of dishes. As I wasnt that hungry I was able to order a couple of dishes and even these filled me up. The first dish ordered was a mini japanese halloumi burger which although small, packed a punch. Each bite was a explosion of flavours. Next were 2 types of dumplings, one consisted of prawns and the other of mushroom, each was equally delicious and moorish.

Settings Review: Located off busy clapham common it is not that easy to find as the shop is small and has a dark exterior. Inside, there is limited seating and plenty of people packed inside. The interior design is cute and quirky and the personal touches are shown.

Positives: amazing food, moorish

Negatives: small, limited seating

Clapham is increasingly coming into its own with restaurants and eateries.

Mama Lan is located conveniently behind clapham common station and is a great place for a simple yet tasty lunch. I had the king prawn and chestnut dumplings and the chicken ban mein. Enjoyed both - the dumplings had the right mix of textures with the soft outside and the chestnuts lending that wonderful crunch on the inside. The chicken ban mein was a great main dish too, if a bit heavy portion-wise. Not too many people would complain about that though!

Mama Lan also has a lovely cosy feel to it - great for when you are in the area and want a wholesome meal - try it sometime, they don't disappoint.

Absolutely LOVE the spicy chicken buns - had no idea they opened a new one in Clapham! Clapham menu and ambiance is slightly better in my opinion :)

Mama Lan is my default choice for lunch when in the office (it's just around the corner) serving handmade dumplings, noodle soups and street snacks from the heart of Beijing. A mixture of communal tables and a couple for two, the venue is intimate and simple. There's usually one member of staff taking orders and delivering the food - there's no sight of the kitchen. I suspect it's on a different floor.

All the dishes here are generous, fresh and very appetising. My regular dish is the spicy ribbon tofu with pickles ban mein - it's full of flavour and wonderfully savoury. I've had the dumplings and wings here too, both also very good.

I've had the beef noodle soup on two occasions - my first experience was outstanding, a real depth to the stock. The second time was a little underwhelming - lots of heat but not enough flavour. I suspect this is down to who happens to be in the kitchen that day.

You can't make a reservation and I've only ever eaten there for lunch - I suspect it gets quite busy in the evenings where a queue might be experienced along with the need to share a table. I say, embrace it.

They also only accept cash.

Stopped here as I've had nothing to eat since breakfast. Got to say the food was served very quick following ordering and all seems freshly prepared nice and hot too (temperature not spicy hot). The menu was not busy nor overloaded with options. The staffs are welcoming and the place was cosy, clean and comfortable.

Pretty good Thai restaurant in the heart of Clapham Common. Quick service and good, flavourful food. Portions of the mains are generous. Dumplings are delicious but a bit small.
