I admit that I am a picky man, particularly when it comes to coffee.  However, like all whimsical irritants, my tastes constantly change.  At times I like or hate all of the following: burnt, sour, smooth, sweet, bitter, milky, black.  And if I don’t like it for some reason, I do what any food blogger worth any salt would do.  Make something up.

Cute little ticked away space. Beautiful creamy coffee available. Not surprising. These people are Australians and they know their stuff. Recommended.

This is a nice find. Tucked away off Great Eastern Street, it oozes calm and collectiveness. The clue is in the name, it is a wee coffeefest hub. Some great blends partnered with tasting notes. A clued up Shoreditch cool team knock up your coffees and brews. The decor has a contemporary Scandinavian clean feel to it. Folk sit, meet and chat quietly. Not good for a private chat, I was doing an interview here, but a nice spot to settle for a caffeine boost if you are a consultant type with no regular home.

Tucked away in trendy Shoreditch, Origin Coffee Shop has a stripped back facade.  The sort of place you’d only look twice at if you really wanted a cup of coffee and happened to be walking past.  But, inside you’ll find a group of dedicated baristas, keen to take coffee further – to introduce and educate Londoners in the world of speciality coffee.  Their passion becomes evident when you go downstairs into the teaching studio, where you can learn the basics about coffee – or if you prefer, have an introduction to coffee art.

I came in to get a bite before my massage right across the cafe. It’s wonderfully quiet and a lovely place to kill some time. I got the mint tea and the chocolate croissant. The tea pot was quite big and the croissant was really quite good (other than being cold :( but bonus points for being covered in so much chocolate!!) This is a nice place to just relax and not get caught up in the usual chaos of London coffee shops.

This place is legit. Just good coffee and dedication to the art. I always order a mocha whenever I try a new cafe because for me, this is the real testament to a barista’s skill. You can actually see whether they know what they’re doing or if they just know how to make a cookie-cutter coffee. Let me explain. A bad mocha will taste like someone took half a pot of coffee, dumped some chocolate into it, stirred it, and then served it to you. It will taste awful with a sour bitter coffee, and then bizarrely sweet chocolate. You’d think to yourself: why would anyone order this? That is, until you have a good mocha. You see, a good mocha will taste like a perfect harmony between the coffee and chocolate, where the flavour profiles match and complement each other, and make it taste like an entirely new thing together that just works. Or in other words, what a mocha should be. I’m happy to say this place is one such place that has a banging mocha. The baristas clearly tasted their mochas before and ensured the coffee beans and chocolate used were both of the sweet variety so there is no harsh contrast between the two but rather a perfect union. It sounds simple, but so many places fail at this because their baristas aren’t actually trained in the art properly. Massive shout out to the boys here and props to them. They were chill af, didn’t seem to mind me working on my laptop for an hour and were playing some good female RNB. I didn’t even put in my headphones it was that good. If you’re passing by I would definitely recommend. If looking to do some work I would strongly urge you get there prior to 12pm as the place gets really busy around then. A good time would be between 10-11am if you want a good seat. Cheers once again I’ll be back.

Loved their coffee til the last sip! Tried the flat white, once with regular milk and the other time with Oatly, yum! Beautiful atmosphere and beautiful people. I marked this place as a favourite ✅

Could claim to be the best coffee shop in London, if it were more arrogant. Instead, it’s quiet and minimalist, and the expert staff make consistently flavoured brews. Also offers a small range of sandwiches and pastries.

Really liked the coffee in the Origin. Lovely place with nice and simple design, many choices of hot drinks. I tried filtered coffee, flat white, and hot chocolate - loved all of them. If you are in Shoreditch and wish to have a nice cup of coffee whilst meeting with a friend or reading a book, this place is for you.

Great coffee Friendliest barista and staff I always make a pit stop here for a black coffee which needs no sugar and is naturally sweet They source some very rare unique cacao powder too. Will try the hit chocolate next

Just excellent coffee at this little cafe just off Old Street! The line can get long during busy periods like breakfast and lunch time, but it generally moves quite fast. The baristas are friendly and they have a yummy selection of pastries as well.

Origin holds the spot as my number 1 oat latte in London. They make consistently good coffee, have a great loyalty program and the staff are very nice. They always make the coffee fast even when it is busy. Love buying their beans and trying different blends which they will grind for my aeropress.
