Reviews The French House

The concept is nice. The walls are covered with posters are articles from magazines dating from the 60's. They play old French songs. They serve good coffee. I also had the onion soup and was a bit disappointed by the soggy bread and the melted cheese wasn't grilled enough to my taste. But I will give another try to this place as I found it really charming. I wouldn't order any wine there though as they are all very expensive. The table next to us was having a raclette and it looked really good (£14/person). There is a small shop at the back of the restaurant where we can buy French wine, jam and a few other things.

One of my favourite places on the Crystal Palace triangle. The French House is charming, reasonably priced and the service is excellent. Possibly my favourite aspect (other than the restroom, which is seen-to-be-believed) is the coffee - I've tried most in the area and this has yet to be beaten. There's also a little shop in the back (pictured is some of the items it sells) and another room that doubles up as a play area for kids and a place for meetings/events (pictured too). If you live near Crystal Palace, The French House is well worth trying - especially for breakfast or later in the evening.

Delicious food and great service! Wines are really nice but a little bit overpriced. You could fork out 12£ for a large glass of white wine.. No thank you! But a part from that, really lovely experience! Will go back!

Excellent restaurant with a brilliant selection of French drinks and cocktails at good prices, and a menu influenced by the Alsace region. Our host was wonderfully welcoming and informative. Tarte flambée is a must try. Lots of delicious desserts and starters too. The best of French cuisine in a beautifully decorated, rustic-themed surroundings. There is a small shop at the back selling wines, champagnes, biscuits, decorative tins and more as a souvenir of your visit. Like being in North East France without leaving South East London. Loved it!

Delicious lunch with very friendly service. Authentic French food. We had olives and saucisson for a starter, followed by crepes and tarte flambee savoyarde. Good French wine list, which we were welcome to taste from. Also offers fondue. Highly recommended.

What a pleasant surprise! We went for a lunch date and will be going back for a dinner soon! The quality of the french feel is paralleled by the cuisine. Everything on the menu is good and this is an unexpectedly good taste of Alsace France. Another strong Indy foody string to Crystal Palace's culinary bow. Go for the Tarte Flambee, stay for everything else. Only slight gripe was that the music was too loud, even when asked for it maybe to be turned down a little. Call me unconventional but I'm confident that traditional French 60's pop has never really been popular anywhere other than in France....I'll take a bit of Johnny Hallyday given we're indulging in the broader French experience, but at high volume, NON Merci..! Turn down les chanteurs and you've a winning dining experience.
