Originally found this place while searching for somewhere that would do me late night coffee with an atmosphere conducive to study/work. In Austin, Texas I had been spoiled for this type of establishment (many of them 24 hours) and while the Cable Cafe does not deliver on all points it comes the closest of any London coffee shop.
The coffee is usually very good and I cannot recall a bad experience with this. The staff are also top notch and have an excellent feel for their regulars while the atmosphere is fantastic even on nights when it is too busy to be conducive to real work. Topping all of this off with a great location about a block from Oval Station on the Northern Line and I had one of my regular watering holes. Even though I just relocated outside of London I will make a point of dropping by on the occasional visit to South London.
A great place. Lovely staff, great drinks and eats, lovely customers, great choice of music and superb gigs on Tuesdays.

This is a gem of a place. Love the decor and the people that go there. Tuesday night concerts are ALL unmissable. Wha treat!

The only thing I would highlight is the sign makes it look like a grease spoon. It is so much more than that!

Very nice and chilled cafe. Popped in for a beer, on tap. The place has quite a quirky second hand decor that adds to the atmosphere. The service was friendly and welcoming. I look forward to seeing what the jazz night offers some time. The cocktails looked good too.
Very cosy place near Oval station with great drinks and live Jazz every Wednesday. I've been here a couple of times and the hot chocolate is outstanding, the cocktails are nice and the staff is super friendly. Prices are pretty reasonable for London too. Would recommend!
A popular place where trendy people hang out, this is a cool cafe with a lot to offer.
We only came for some coffees but it was a relaxing environment. The staff were not the happiest of people on the day, but still polite and helpful.
The coffee was good but it took quite a while as each coffee was made individually, frothing the milk one by once.
One of the very few places start to play chilling jazz in the morning. Cable cafe is full of characteristics, all the old furniture and tiles form an alternative atmosphere.
My French friend enjoying their baked stuff is an evidence that their bakery is pretty good, rich in taste but still simple in format. I was also impressed by their coffee, as good as other third wave coffee shops, not too dark, clean taste.
I've also visited here in an evening. It wasn't for a gig, just a normal night. They got some nice beer options while the space wasn't too crowded, people enjoyed chatting with each other and let their hair down.
I would definitely come back more.

Lovely European styled cafe bar. On Monday's evening people play friendly chess and on Thursday there is live jazz!
Great cafe, fantastic detail on cocktails 3pm-5pm, £7 each. Bit of a shame there are so many people sat on their own with laptops, seems to be the norm these days.

Great jazz on Tuesday nights. Get there very early (2 hours or so) for a seat! Small venue and crowded, but still a good atmosphere and cheap cocktails.

A great local cafe on the oval area, its open most of the day. I’ve been there in the morning and coffee is great, staff is friendly and know their music. They also make good cocktails for a fair price. One of my faves in the area!
