On our way back to the tube yesterday, my friend and I were drawn to the pastry display at Tartine. We decided to pop in and get some eclairs. As we were paying for our eclairs and a brownie (can we say chocolate overload) the owner of the restaurant came out to tell us why their eclairs are the best. He was so funny, and clearly enthusiastic about the quality of his eclairs. I've never met anyone so exuberant about product anywhere, but especially in London.
He was so confident that we would love his eclairs that he guaranteed our money back, and free coffees! Well...no coffees for us and we will definitely be back for more eclairs.
The chocolate eclair is the perfect combo of crunchy and soft. Unlike many eclairs, these did not loose their shape after taking a bite. The shell would melt in your mouth but definitely was hard enough and crunchy. The inner filling was creamy and indulgently chocolaty!
Can't wait to return to Tartine to try more of their pastry. The owner seemed equally enthusiastic about their macaroons...suppose I know what I will be trying next!
Really friendly staff. Lovely decor and layout. The coffee was well made and the cakes looked delicious. Will definitely coming back to try one.
Is it cool to just serve someone smoked bacon in a fry up, without saying anything? Well they did. And I ate it. Because... because. Everything else was very nice. Staff were on point too. Even with bacon controversy it's more than a 3 star joint.
We hosted a poetry night here and it went down a treat. The coffee, snacks and atmosphere was amazing.
Would recommended to anyone.
Lovely little cafe/bakery nestled on Tooting High Street near Tooting Bec. Very large space inside which has been decorated with a rustic 1900s theme. Menu is extensive: we popped in for breakfast but will be returning to try their burgers and myriad of starters. We had the full English breakfast and a vegetarian one. Both portions were massive and relatively cheap when compared to other local eateries. The Moroccan mint tea was refreshing. They offer an assortment of freshly made pastries and cakes. The pain au raisin was delicious! Great place for families, couples and solo eaters!
When it started a few years ago, I found coffee average. Recently I went there and the mocha was amazing and the staff very friendly. Huge cafe and loads of room.
Highly recommended
A lovely place that does great cakes and some fantastic food - the croque madame is to die for! I also recommend their Moroccan mint tea.
One of the best places in Tooting. Have been coming here for several years, have had pretty much everything on their menu. All their food is amazing. Service is brilliant. It’s doggy friendly. I usually come to the one near Tooting Bec as it’s larger. There are nice sofa seats as well. Would definitely recommend their veggie breakfast and patisseries ☺️
Think they have changed their name to Joy Cafe now, kinda liked tartine!
Nice coffee choice of milk alternatives (soy and almond). Close to the station easy access. Free WiFi. Decent food. Slightly slow table service. Not cheap but reasonably priced. Plenty of space indoors. Occasionally when the staff was using a blender the sound was deafening. Besides that staff were nice and table service was quite good for drinks. Overall pleased by the visit.
You can try Delicious things here!!!
Really nice atmosphere ☺️🙈🥰
I love this place and come here all the time with my partner and anyone else who visits us in Tooting. They've got a great selection of food at reasonable prices making it perfect for a light lunch. But the real selling point of Tartine is their cakes which are out of this world! The carrot cake and lemon meringue pie in particular are exceptional.
Delicious cakes, family run, spacious.
We stopped for a cake and we had the velvet cake and a coffee. Very nice, good service and spacious. Excellent for a top up of energy. I believe they also serve food.
Good food and charming dinning area. There are sofas available for customers to sit at while eating or enjoying something to drink. They offer a wide variety of tempting tarts and cakes. The cuisine is Algerian so many of the food options are things like hummus and falafel. The portions for the price are generous and reasonable. There was a slightly longer wait so you may not want to go if you are in a hurry. I recommend this for something a little different.
Just had the eggs royal with salad. My oh my. I only wish my girlfriend was here to experience how perfectly the eggs were cooked and service is great. Wonderful staff and I hope to try the full breakfast next time.
I visited Tarting artisan a couple of time recently. I must say that this is one of the nicest place I have seen: this is because it retains its charm. In fact this place goes back to the 90s and has not received any refurbishment, however is not the usual place which is part of a chain, boring and anonymous. Everything works fine, they have a great selection of cakes and pastries. You can also order breakfast, lunch and dinner from a menu, however I have not done so yet. Staff is pleasant enough. I will surely return.
Ordering and serving was haphazard and friendly. Carrot cake delicious. Would like to see some vegan sweet treats on the menu. The space is great for meetings and getting work done👍
