The Miller pub is the new (not so new anymore) pub from the people behind the Sebright Arms only this time they've transported their laid-back casual hipsterness slightly south of the river to London Bridge.
They officially opened on the 17th of May last year but I was quick enough off the mark to RSVP to their launch party, which was a night of awesomeness.
Their flyer promised a drink on the house and food from the ever wonderful Street Kitchen who had a residency there much like Lucky Chip have at the Sebright. Sadly Street Kitchen have since moved on and they now serve some very generic, average pizzas. I still like the pub a lot but the food is nothing to rave about anymore.
The flyer belied their generosity. When we arrived at the door we were given four tokens - three orange and one black. Each orange token was for a free drink and the black one was for a sample of the food. Very pleasing arrangements.
I became even more pleased when I went and got my first drink and, as a non-beer drinker, saw that they had four different ciders on tap (in additon to those overly sweet Bulmers that are nice to have one of, but soon become too sickly) and also a perry! They were quite happy for you to have a taste first so I had a bit of the perry and opted for that.
For ale and craft beer lovers they also had quite a selection, and I noticed someone with a bottle of 'Doggie Style' pale ale later in the evening which made me smile.
The decor reminded me very much of the Sebright Arms - it was sort of old man's working club turned cool. Mismatched chairs, those weird, red-topped flimsy-looking wooden tables, sort of a sparse feel to the place. You can imagine it's former life in which the carpet was sticky and everything stank of beer. But now it's all scrubbed up and had lovely Pure Evil artwork on the wall (gotta wonder how much that sells for these days). I liked it.
I go back fairly regularly (for a person who is always seeking new places, you know if I revisit somewhere it means I really like it). It's the first place I recommend to anyone looking for a pub in London Bridge.
Live locally so have tried a lot of places in the area and I could say good place to hang out with friends. The quality of food way better than I expected. And reasonable price.
Just great. So, what with people being forced back into the office the pubs are now heaving and spilling onto the pavements, so I decided to see what lay just off of trendy Borough Market and I was so glad I did.
This place has generous patio (with heaters), an eclectic and comfortable interior and, very important, efficient bar staff.
It also hosts improv comedy too.
Prices are reasonable.
Will come back.
Will travel back for comedy.
If you're in the neighbourhood, do yourself a favour, avoid the bar crush, avoid overpriced food and come here.
Very reasonable price when you think about the location. Great atmosphere, food was very nice as well. Would love to go back !!
Great pub and decent prices. It's a big venue, you can sit in the busy parts in the garden or inside, or at the side on Kipling street which is really quiet.
Huge range of clientele which is nice, I popped in on my own the first time and felt really comfortable. Keen to try the food next time, the reviews look really good!
Great little pub with comedy. Great selection of beers, ales and ciders. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Just 5 mins from Borough market. The food looked good too but we didn’t have any. The beer was fresh and tasted very good.
A community pub, in the shadow of Guy's hospital. Built post war sometime, a must for architecture addicts (hmm, I think not). Staff are wonderful, service quick, keen and friendly. A wide range of keg beers on offer. Also 4 cask ales and a couple of niche ciders available, well done! There is a burger oriented menu running including something for the herbivores among us. Vegan and veggie. Carnivores, do not be afraid, we are not forgotten! The pub leans towards music and stand up comedy. A busy venue that looks like loads of fun. There is a wonderful tilt to classic 60-70s rock with a bit of psychedelia. Bring on King Crimson. So glad I paid a visit. I recommend you do too.
Great burgers, really good burger. Did I mention the burger? And don't even get me started on the hullumi.
Really nice laid back atmosphere during the day for lich. Bit quite. But really friendly staff.
The review is slightly unfair as we were in a separate space. Food was very good. It was pub food so nothing fancy but it was tasty and enjoyable. The service was slightly all over the place but all the people were very helpful. In general it is fun and highly recommended
Always lit, always good Vibes. Come here for a drink, leave here with Happiness ☺️. Jess aka sass queen is the best bar maid in London/ Derry.
Whenever we are in London we make sure we pay The Miller Bar behind Guys Hospital and minutes from both The Shard and London Bridge Station a visit. I would highly recommend the food in this treat of a bar ,with The Miller Burger being a favourite. The food is fresh and doesn't scrimp on portion size and a great value for money. The staff are super friendly and nothing is a bother to them. We look forward to our next visit to this gem of a pub!!!
Barmaid farted on us twice
Visited here with a friend and whilst I was away from the table he complained that the blonde barmaid farted on him. Thinking he was joking I took no notice. Next time she came to collect glasses she clearly spun around and "crop dusted" us with a terrible smell. Absolutely bizarre and disgusting!
