This is an affordable and informal restaurant with good vietnamese food! The summer spring roles are amazing and the stir fried egg Rice aswell. We had a really good rosé wine and the staff was super friendly.
Tip: share! The portions are huge and if you order starter you will be fine sharing a main dish for sure.

Tried out Green Papaya on Kingsland Road on a night out with the girls.  I still remember eating an extraordinary banana blossom salad at their Mare Street branch years ago that was not on the menu tonight.  We mostly wanted to try the more unusual items that are not ubiquitous on Kingsland Road.

Of the starters, the crispy squid with purple basil sauce was stunning.  Crispy squid is available on most menus on the strip, but the pesto like sauce, with basil, coriander, lime and fresh chilli was a beautiful and unusual zesty foil to deep fried squid.  That amazing sauce is also available for fried prawns.  Another unusual starter was bahn tom, or sweet potato and prawn fritters.  A large portion served with nuoc cham, salad leaves and herbs.  The fritters were large, so they were hard to wrap up in the leaves, but really nice.  Another great starter came from the Chef's Specials menu available on a separate card.  This was grilled lambs neck with chilli and cumin.  Extremely tender and flavorful.  Our last starter was a standard green papaya salad, which was pleasant, but not out of the ordinary.

Our order on mains was a little less successful.  Seafood was quite limited compared to other restaurants on Kingsland Road.  The standout dish was thit koh tau, or slow cooked belly of pork.  Very succulent.  We also had stir fried prawns in tamarind and tofu with aubergine.  Both were nice but not standouts.  We let the waiter pick a chicken dish, which was BBQ chicken thigh with satay sauce.  For my taste, this was stodgy and I wouldn't order it again.

I would be happy to return just for the vibrant purple basil sauce.  Next time I will try some of the mains from the Chef's Specials menu.

Green Papaya is not BYO.

Authentic Xi’An food, love every single dish and the rice noodles was SO nice, as well as the bun! Having been here several times, always very good service and high quality food provided. Highly recommend if you like authentic Chinese or Vietnamese food. Btw, better value for money as compare to other Chinese restaurants nearby. Suitable for 1 person or multiple people to share.

There are a lot of Vietnamese restaurants around this area, so it was hard to know which to try. But as soon as my big bowl of pho arrived I knew we had made a good choice! Soup base was hot, ingredients were fresh and what I liked about it most was that they kept it simple (no garnish, no fuss), just simple food made well. As a bonus, the food arrived quickly and the waiter was very attentive.

Probably the best Vietnamese/Xi'an food I've had in London. It's a dangerous combo! Fresh ingredients with spice and flavour. Very authentic, I don't think you can go wrong with anything they serve. I'm definitely going back to try more dishes!

Food & drink: 7/10 Service: 8/10 Decor & atmosphere: 6/10 Service speed: 8/10 Cost: 8/10 The best: Service is amazing! The worst: Could be more authentic but it is still legit. Lowdown: There are soo many Vietnamese restaurants on this strip but this is my fav. Big tasty servings, cheap price and amazing service. My go to for a Vietnamese fix in London.

Strange fusion of Vietnamese and Xi'an food. Our table ordered a mix of both cuisines and felt the pho tasted more like Chinese broth rather than Vietnamese. The Chinese food was very delicious though! Highly recommend the spicy beef noodles. The zha jiang noodles were also not bad. Overall verdict: come here for the Chinese food not the Vietnamese! I think we have found our new local Chinese go-to! Tip: this place is cash-only and has 10% off before 5pm

Green papaya does the best pho in London, the broth is flavoursome and the beef is really tender. Would recommend a stop off here. Yum!

Really fantastic. Being a super fan of both Vietnamese and Xi'anese food I was keen to have both as options within the same meal. We ordered a mix of both styles and every thing we had was fantastic. It was very fresh, cooked very well (as in not for too long) and flavours were fantastic. I am SO glad I tried this place tonight as I will certainly be coming back again and again and again. Prices extremely reasonable too. Every dish I saw coming out of the kitchen looked good. Staff friendly and attentive.

Had a nice meal in here. I loved the papaya salad although pretty sure the menu promised prawns - there were none. The yam and prawn fritters were very good, flavourful, light, and delicious wrapped in lettuce and herbs. I'd had them years ago but these were nicer. The noodles with belly pork was my least favourite dish but it was so decent. Overall, a good experience

Perfect Vietnamese food. This place just opened and was in the area, it was one of those places that looked like it was family run and needed a bit of business, so went in. The food was amazing and the waitress was helpful in recommending some different types of dishes to have, which were very tasty. The portions were pretty good, so this meant we asked to take it away with us, even the soup. The owner I think was very nice and chatty during the meal, offered to put us a few more noodles in our takeaway which was very nice of him. If you are in the area and wanting Vietnamese or the like, I'd recommend this place and probably go to their other restaurant in Hackney if I was near.

Absolutely delicious food at very reasonable prices. Had the spring rolls 😋, vermicille chicken and papaya salad. Everything was fresh, tasty and just what I'd expect from a good.vietnamese place. It's on the favourites to go back to now. Small place, fairly quiet, doesn't look anything too fancy and harder to spot. But worth stopping by

Very nice food, albeit a little confused about its identity... you won't find many Vietnamese favourites, but instead some interesting twists on a wide range of Asian cuisine. The metal chopsticks are a bit annoying to use sometimes, and starters and mains come out when they're ready, but those are not exactly major issues.

Really lovely place, polite & friendly staff, very accommodating with vegetarian options & specific dietary requirements. Did everything with a smile on their face and were really patient. Food was excellent - definitely coming here regularly and recommend you do the same!

Good quality Vietnamese food, you should go here if you like Xi'an noodles that other Vietnamese restaurants in the area don't have. Also there is a daily happy hour deal until 7 for drinks and you might not want to miss it
