Love a roast, and found this place because of it... Pluses; + Portion size is good (with an option to have your roast potatoes and gravy topped up should you need) + Potatoes and roast veg cooked nicely - parsnips in particular + Yorkshire pudding is great, especially with gravy Minuses; - HORRENDOUS Cauliflower and cheese - it really really doesn't belong on the plate in that current state, plastic cheese flavour does not belong on a plate of roast dinner - Roast chicken (which isn't on the menu for some reason) is cooked until very dry ... but it's fixable by pouring the gravy on it

A Thursday-afternoon-pint-visit: Stumbled upon the star as I was walking past and had to go in. This is genuinely nice pub and it’s as nice inside as it looks from the outside. The bar staff are super polite to everyone, and it’s clear they genuinely enjoy their customers. Probably the nicest pub I’ve been to in a long time. Such a shame I don’t live nearer. Atmosphere is very relaxed and chilled, with comfortable and clean surroundings. Not sure what to drink? No problem, because I saw the bar man offer a customer the chance to try a beer before they ordered. Very refreshing! Fully recommendable and will be back for sure. Amstel : £5.15 but defo worth.

Went here for the bottomless brunch with 3 girlfriends. Absolutely fantastic service from start to finish. Special thanks to the fantastic bar staff and to Ben and Hannah for looking after us so well. t's nice to see friendly faces behind a bar. The food was great and the actual pub was lovely, as was the garden. Great atmosphere, and I will definitely be going back to try the Sunday dinner 🍽 😋 well worth a visit 👍🏻❤️

I love it here. I come quite often, on my own or with friends, and always for the Sunday Roast. I like the chicken the best, with the pork a close second. You get really good portions, with unlimited gravy and more roasties if requested. There are usually at least 4 different vegetables (carrots, parsnips and two types of cabbage, sometimes with added broccolini) plus some squash puree and watercress garnish. The chicken is moist and the skin crisp, the pork shoulder is soft, the roasties are amazing, the Yorkies are excellent, the vegetables are soft and lovely and the gravy is sooo tasty. It's such a nice quirky space (but it's best not to be drunk if you need to access the toilet as the staircase is narrow and steep!) with an excellent beer garden in warm weather. Service is fast and friendly, you never wait long for anything. The roasts are well-priced but I feel the soft drinks go up in price all the time and the cauliflower cheese is a little too small for what it costs. It's my only gripe though! The photos are from several visits.

Came for Sunday roast and it was amazing. I chose a chicken roast and it included half a roast chicken. Roast tatties. 3 different veg and a big Yorkshire with a separate jug of gravy. Reasonable price. I then had a strong cut spice rum cocktail which certainly rounded off the meal nicely. Nice environment. really friendly and welcoming, nice size garden area, good seating space. Left a bit tipsy but hey… what a Sunday

Lovely afternoon visiting the star of the east for the first time. Hannah, Ben and all members of staff were extremely welcoming, nothing was ever too much and we were always checked on every so often. We enjoyed a tasty Roast dinner 10/10! Will definitely be back! Thank you!

Best pub in the area! Atmosphere is always brilliant, you cannot fault any of the members of staff - they are super friendly and nothing is too much trouble (especially Sam, Ana and Raquel!). Food is incredible- normal menu is great, pizzas are amazing, breakfast is superb, and the Sunday roast is the best I have ever eaten out!! And to top it all off, it's dog friendly!!

Great venue! The pub was refurbished last year and it looks amazing! Small and easy menu, pizza and Sunday roast available. Lots of games to enjoy the cold evenings with friends, you can order muled wine as well! Great spot for summer time as well, the garden behind is huge! Friendly staff will help you with the order and explain all. You can as well rent a private room just for your party. Lots to do in this beautiful place!

Despite having worked in Canary Wharf for 16 years, I only discovered this pub a couple of weeks ago, and I wish I could wind the time back. I absolutely loved the Star of the East that - differently from nearly every other pub in Canary Wharf that feel synthetic - has a real pub feeling: the moment you step into it, you realise from the décor that this is a place with personality. You then speak to anyone working there and you feel the love that only real publicans feel for their job, and the internal garden is like heaven on a hot Summer day. The selection of beers and ciders is very good, with names that aren't the common ones you find in chain bars. The food tasty and filling, but most importantly for me, it was that this is the one place so close to Canary Wharf where I felt I could relax talking to friends and feeling like at home.

The roast dinners are insane. People talking nonesense about protion sizes - in fact we thought it was too much and had to take doggy bags. Might be dependent on how busy they are though as we had booked before only to be told 30 minutes past opening time that there were no dinners left. Full half of a roast chicken and free toastie/Yorkshire/gravy top ups.

Friendly staff as always and decent food. Great use of the outdoor space. Beer selection feels very limited; most bottles/cans and everything on draught was pale, except the Guinness.

Went for a few pints with colleagues after volunteering at a food project nearby. The beer garden was lovely, rather quiet which was comfortable and nice. The IPA wasn't the best tho, but it is what it is.

Very good Sunday roast - the chicken was especially plump. Beer choice a bit average - Neck Oil, that kind of thing. Nice little garden out the back. Worth a visit.
