It has been a while since the last time I visited The Pig’s Ear and a summer’s evening that we found ourselves in the area, was the right opportunity to re-visit and be the first review for my blog. It is not the ideal place for a hot summer’s evening, as it lacks outside space, but thankfully it was not packed and the high ceilings of the Victorian establishment made the place feel cool.
Although it was a relatively quiet evening the people that where in the pub created a lively atmosphere with a really mixed crowd which included Chelsea gents, socialites, builders and a couple of tourists visiting from New York that sat next to us. The interior of the pub retains most of the original features but also has a bit of a 70s vibe with various posters from the era such as Sex Pistols and Michael Caine. It is not too far from the World’s End where Vivian Westwood set up her first boutique in the 70s, so maybe that’s the influence.
As soon as we arrived and sat at our table I sent K on a little mission, she was after the loos and thought it was a good opportunity to ask her to take photos of the upstairs dining room as she always does a better job than I do!
We ordered the Scotch egg to start, which had a runny yolk and tasted just perfect! The presentation of the starter reminded us of the Sex Pistols but never mind.
My main was fish & chips with tartare sauce and mushy peas. It was nicely presented and cooked but the soggy batter and the cold(!) mushy peas let it down a bit. Let’s be honest though, fish and chips are best from the local chippy!
K’s main was the spatchcock poussin with posh coleslaw, sweet potato fries and mustard sauce. The dish tasted much better than it looked and the plate was spotless not that long after it was brought to the table.
There was no room for pudding but there was plenty of room for a couple more drinks whilst enjoying the buzzy atmosphere and watching the world go by as people were coming and going. Since it was a school night we didn’t stay too late and made our way home as the sun was setting.
We had a really lovely evening but if I were to be uber critical of The Pig’s Ear there were some small slippages in relation to the food, but it still delivered great taste and great atmosphere. I’ve been coming here for years and I will always come back to The Pig’s Ear, whether for drinks or a meal and I will definitely choose it over any chain. Next time I must try the first floor dining room, which must be ideal for a private party as well as dining.
Good, busy, noisy, gastropub in Chelsea
We were here recently for a private party and had a really fun night. A nice little pub just down between the Kings Road and the river. Somehow hadn't been here before, but will be back.
I once entered into a humorous discussion with an American about English slang. And by that I mean slang used by British people for he really didn't consider it correct to call such slang 'English'. He was Americ
The Pig's Ear is a lovely pub, located in the heart of Chelsea just off the King's road. It has an incredibly warm and cosy atmosphere, and the sweet fairy lights indicate that it will be a hit spot at Christmas.
Food and drinks are a bit expensive - around £5 for a bottled cider for example. The meals do look very good though, and it would be a nice place to go for a Sunday roast. Staff are very friendly and efficient as well. Definitely worth popping in to warm up from the cold or to take a rest after a shopping workout.
Ignore the fact it's owned by a footballer (no names mentioned as I know it'll put off so many of opposition's fans) - it's set above a cosy pub and is not tacky or shiny at all. Best steak tartare in London, great selection of fish, a mean steak bravette, good wine list. If you're feeling brave and hungry - the pork board has to be tasted to be believed. Quite an incredible scotch egg.
This pub looks bit rustic, which is cool as it is located in Chelsea! It really is welcoming and multifaceted. The bar, with the leather banquettes and wooden tables are user friendly. There is also a dining area and a nice bright kitchen. Lobster bisque, smoked salmon, burgers, tartar bib and ratatouille the main dishes served here,at a quite reasonable price. I hesitated between brownie and panna cotta as they both look good!
Our first time visit. Was very pleasantly surprised by this upmarket gastropub. Super friendly and efficient staff and superb ambience. Food and wine list also very good. Will Definitely be back for the Sunday brunch.
No food just came for drinks! This is now my favourite pub in Chelsea! The staff are the best, the wine is the best! Good vibes. Love it!
**Review of The Chelsea Pig, Chelsea**
Nestled just off the iconic King’s Road, The Chelsea Pig is a hidden gem in Chelsea's culinary scene. Its ambiance strikes a balance between classic British charm and modern sophistication. The food, a blend of tradition and innovation, is consistently delightful, while the drinks menu offers both exquisite wines and crafted cocktails. Service is attentive and genuine, making every guest feel special. In short, The Chelsea Pig offers a sublime dining experience and I will undoubtedly be returning. Don’t miss out!
Thanks guys, Alex
Everything was excellent - when booking the team accommodated a couple of changes to timing and numbers, food was excellent as was the service. It's not an inexpensive lunch, but I've paid more for much less. Good spacing between tables as well - no danger of feeling too close to fellow diners.
The location of the pub seems like a quiet area and its by the corner. Inside it looks nice, bright and sophisticated.
Food - we ordered Sunday roast Gloucestershire pork belly.
Potatoes seems to be deep fried almost burnt so as the Yorkshire pudding.
Pork belly is tender and very tasty especially the apple sauce + gravy 😋
Price: £££
The Chelsea Pig holds a special place in my heart, easily ranking as my absolute favorite haunt in the city. When it comes to indulgence, their pork belly roast is second to none, delivering a tantalizing medley of flavors that dance on the palate and leave you craving for more.
However, what truly elevates the experience at The Chelsea Pig isn’t just the mouthwatering dishes, but the staff who serve them. A special shoutout to Ross – his kindness and attentive service have never gone unnoticed. Each time I visit, he exemplifies the epitome of hospitality, ensuring that every patron feels cherished and well taken care of.
But Ross isn’t the only star; the entire staff radiates warmth and friendliness, which only adds to the cozy atmosphere of the place. It's this blend of outstanding service and hearty food that makes every meal there memorable.
And once you're done savoring their delectable dishes, the ambiance lends itself perfectly for a relaxed drink. The vibes strike the right balance – lively enough to spark spirited conversations yet intimate enough for those quieter moments.
In summary, if you're in the mood for a culinary delight coupled with a heartwarming environment, The Chelsea Pig should be at the top of your list. Whether it’s the impeccable pork belly roast, the unparalleled service, or the perfect ambiance for a drink, this gem in Chelsea has it all. Cheers!
Very very good! The food was amazing. We had lamb and haddock. Perfect taste, perfect cooking. The best we had in central London. The stuff is also friendly, attentive and qualified. Strong recommendation. We will come back!
Sunday lunch superb. Accommodating and hospitable staff. Unusual and eclectic decor in n beautiful street. I had come from NZ, first time back in couple years due to borders being up. Chelsea Pig, you put a smile on the dial of this homesick Brit!
Totally revamped gastropub with lovely design (lots of roses, even a diver), super friendly staff, great drinks and usually lovely food. The stilton sauce was exceptional as were the thin chips. At last a pink burger (although hardness and flavour may need some work). Sadly no longer as good as it was: thin sauces et lc
Small selection on the menu but very tasty food. Service was excellent and the ambience was great. Took my parents and sister there for lunch on my father's birthday, and they still talk about how much they enjoyed themselves. The air conditioning on a hot day was greatly appreciated!!! Looking forward to exploring the rest of the menu.
A very nice gastro pub.
Food is basic and nice, all dishes were cooked very well. Basic and simple ingredients, very fine tastes
The wine and beer list is very good. Great selection of cocktails as well
The staff is really professional and helpful.
Overall definitely recommended. Give it a try
Sensational pub, with fantastic food, service and amazing ambience decorated with stunning Timothy Oulton furniture. Fabulous cocktails too. Definitely worth a visit!!!
Great atmosphere. Burger was Amazing. Staff Always lovely & well trained and come across like they want to be there, which is Incredibly rare. I found the Fish and Chips disappointing, in terms of taste & quantity.
Sunday Roast Still my preferred option. I The Yorkies & Veg option were incredible when I was last there.
Very nice, helpful staff. Excellent food. Good atmosphere.
What a wonderful lunch we had! The decor was superb, a pub with a luxury touch! We chose the chicken, rib eye and lobster pie and every single meal was delicious. Violet Creme Brule as dessert was the perfect choice to end that amazing meal. Mia was just amazing, sweetest and funniest girl took so much care of our table and defenitely made our whole experience :):) defenitely a place to come back
Great place, fantastic staff and an aquarium that just looks stunning 😀
Everything about our meal and experience was excellent! All the food was delicious, and the service couldn’t be faulted in any way.
I went during soft launch. It was ashamed that they ran out of rib roast. I had the chicken and was impressed with it - it was crusty on the outside and very juicy meat inside. Their dishes were on the salty side though.
Loved it a very nice themed English pub that has some great cocktails and nice local larger. Owned by Mr chelsea Frank lampard himself staff very friendly and more than helpful.
